    • Part 8.5 - UPDATED INF...
For clarity, when I said that the S1000V can't record layered Tones over MIDI, I was talking about accessing the "Layer" function as found in the front panel user interface. You CAN layer Tones over MIDI via the multi-timbral feature, though each layer would have to be recorded to a separate track
In this episode, Casio Chaos Theory dives deep into the MIDI CONNECTIVITY of the S1000V by demonstrating how to use it both as a controller keyboard within a DAW based set up, and also as an external MIDI sound source. Along the way some limitations of its MIDI capabilities is discovered.

    30:14 - CONCLUSION
    31:26 - Part 8 Teaser
All raw audio from the CT-S1000V recorded directly from its line-out sockets into a Behringer U-Phoria UMC404HD sound interface, and then directly into a DAW (Mixcraft Pro Studio 9). No VSTs/ effects were used on the CT-S1000V raw audio, other than a Limiter to prevent any clipping.

Out of curiosity, do you have a favourite Casio that you've tested so far?

Of the Casios that I've tested so far, they're all so different! The SA76 surprised me with how good its sounds are for such a budget keyboard, and the CT201 surprised me with how much unique character its Tones have. The CZs are always a favourite because they are still so powerful and flexible all these years later, and the CT-S1000V is a great all rounder with some unique features, though some of its flaws and limitations could be a drawback. Then I have my XW-P1 and G1 that are super versatile and always deliver when needed. And I'll always love my VL-1 because it's so unique, iconic, and it was my very first electronic keyboard/ synth.
Of my large collection that I have yet to feature, I keep coming back to the little HT700. I also have the big daddy HT6000, yet there's something very sweet about the sound of the HT700 (and the HT SD line all have analogue filters). I also love my MT65 & MT400V because they're such fun keyboards (and the MT400 is also another Casio that has the magic filter). My VA-10 is also a favourite because it has such a unique set of features, and then there is my SK-1 and FZ-20M samplers. The SK-1, though basic by todays standards, has that Lo-Fi crunchy sampling sound and is a lot of fun, and the FZ is kind of a much, much more powerful and supercharged SK-1 with a unique sound thanks to its filter.
Very hard to pick a favourite because as mentioned, they all have very different feature sets and sonic characters!

@@CasioChaosTheory I love that the VL-1 is half calculator and half keyboard, only Casio could make something this pointless and simultaneously awesome. :D The CT-S1000V looks like a really good synth, based on your in depth review. The VA-10 is a dream of mine, I really hope to stumble on one one day. Thank you for the tips, I'll have a look at all of these!

is it possible to communicate MIDI signal from CTS1000 to a DAW (like Ableton Live) via Bluetooth?

I've looked through the manual and also online, but I can't seem to find a clear answer. Page 277 of the S1000V User Guide gives a brief overview of how to connect with a Bluetooth Low Energy device, but it gives no other details other than - "on the settings screen of the app installed on your low energy Bluetooth device, select 'WU-BT10' to connect with the Digital Keyboard".
My DAW is desktop PC based and it doesn't have Bluetooth, so I connect via USB cables to do all my MIDI recording and playback. I always use cables to record both audio and MIDI to reduce any wireless interference and also latency issues. I have no way of checking Bluetooth functionality with a DAW using my set up, unfortunately.
There is also a caveat on page 277 stating that there "may be some delay in MIDI transfer" when using Bluetooth, and if that is the case, it then advises to "connect using a USB cable". I suspect that MIDI over Bluetooth might be OK just to play MIDI files sent from a wireless device to the keyboard, but the risk of latency issues when using a DAW to play back previously recorded tracks and multitrack record new MIDI tracks over Bluetooth simultaneously could potentially lead to timing problems.
Unfortunately I can't give a clear answer to your question! However, you could try asking on the "Casio Music Forums" website as there are some very knowledgeable people there who may know more about using Bluetooth with the S1000V. Here's the link:

It appears that the CT-S1 has the exact same midi issues regarding what is accessible. This has been confirmed by Brad.
