Are 9mm and .380 single stack guns still viable for carry in a world of double stacks? I say yes.

My intent for this video was to say, if you are buying new, there is no reason not to buy a double stack if you can afford one: if you have a single stack, and you are proficient with it and it’s reliable, there’s no reason to dump it and buy the newest thing just because there’s a new gun out there. If you’re starting from scratch, need a budget gun and you can find a gen 1 shield, or LC9S or EC9S, or a Bodyguard .380, or even a double action revolver, then there’s no reason NOT to buy one, just because it’s not the newest thing or don’t meet the “tattoos bearded guys” idea of what the best carry gun is… program compliance is the key thing… you have to carry for any gun to be useful, and you have to carry a gun that you can shoot, shoot well, and aren’t scared to carry.
For people that have multiple guns like myself, I like testing the old guns against new ones and seeing if they are even worth it.
That’s why I have spent so much time on the S&W SD series pistols, the Taurus G3C, the Stoeger etc.

I still carry the gen 1 Shield. I have shot it for years and it is light weight, easy to carry. If I had no guns, then yes I would go with Shield plus. No wrong answers. Nice video.

Thanks, and I think in general if you’re buying new it makes sense to buy a double stack if you can afford it. If not, and you are on a budget or have a single stack now, nothing wrong with them.

"Just because a new gun comes out on the market does not mean that it obsoletes everything previous to it."
Amen. There are those of us who carry revolvers still besides single stacks. How many rounds does a person need in a five second gunfight? If we were soldiers or law enforcement or we lived in gangland with a high crime rate then the extra capacity is needed. We do still carry reloads if there is that less than one percent chance of a longer gunfight but in reality the average person is not going to get through a mag or cylinder let alone have time to reload in a five second gunfight.

The lc9s with fiber optic sights goes on sale once a year at Cabela's for $249. I got one a couple years ago and liked it so much I got another one last year.

I say carry what one can shoot well and is a solid self defense caliber with proper factory loadings available. I carry a Shield 2.0 40SW I can shoot it well and it conceals great too.

I agree. You have to be proficient with what you shoot, and confident in it. If not, it’s not a good carry option.

I carry a 100% reliable Kahr CW9 with a +1 baseplate. I carry a spare 10 round back up magazine. The magazines and the pistol are so flat and light weight that I forget it's on me. I don't feel it and it doesn't print. I live in the hot desert. I don't want to carry a big gun. I was carrying a glock 30 for a while there. Not having to hoist my pants up every 20 minutes is a definite bonus.

@@crankygunreviews ill add this too. My grandfather was captured by enemy soldiers and was able to escape by taking three of them out with his Walther P38. That single stack was enough. It's a matter of training. I get the feeling a good portion of people hyperfocused on capacity are people who won't say it allowed but lack confidence in their own abilities with their chosen weapon. Keep training!

What a person has that they practice with and are proficient with is what is viable for them. Is a single stack enough? Yes, the average gunfight is resolved in 2.5 rounds so even a 5 shot S&W model 60 irevolver is plenty as per stats. If you're a person that is in places where you are sure there will be multiple assailants during any altercation I would suggest a new lifestyle & residence or at minimum a different travel route. I like and do own single stacks, stack and a 1/2 and double stack semi autos. When I have to conceal in light clothing or a formal event a normally pick a single stack to avoid printing

Thank you for the great video! I very much appreciate the format of your reviews and videos such as this one. I carry and shoot what I like and am comfortable with, however it is not necessarily the best for someone else. I think some people may get caught up a fan club type format I don't get that vibe from your channel. I appreciate that you seem to give your honest appraisal.

The Bodyguard is a GREAT gun. A lot of people hate it because it has low sights and a heady trigger, but in those aspects it’s just like a revolver
