1971 released Bangladesh from a state whose priority remains national security rather than its people's welfare. After 1971 they were free to focus on their people's development.

Sad that most Pakistani recognize 1971 as just a separation and call it an Indo-Pak war. And for us, it was more than just a separation, a Bangladesh-pakistan war and India helped on the way. Although my family hadn't suffered during the war, but we can't ignore the people and their people who went through this, millions of people died, women were raped, brilliant minds were killed so that the country can't prosper down the road. I don't have any hate towards the current generation of people, but misinterpreting the whole thing is what makes me sad.

some of the "mullahs" are also involved in social work and management of resources.
it's all about passion and using the teachings of religion in a positive way.
they're too busy with their work like other hard working people.

Far past 15+ years, students from Bangladesh diaspora are challenging them with 100% success. My son who graduated from elite engineering school (god bless) has friends from Pakistani, BD diaspora and they have a friendship without any prejudice. I am an Indian living in France since a decade. Indeed I see a lot of Pakistanis doing amazing progress here in Europe, in any sector (top banks,IT copanies, research firms entrepreneurships, government sector jobs, any sector you name).
I am adding two bits here from my experiences regarding that "extractive form of corruption". (Ambani building their Antilia in Mumbai and not in Dubai or London)
Sir, not only your corruption money but the money earned by Pakistanis here in developed western countries (not those middle eastern labour market) also doesn't reach home as much as it should be. It is always discussed amongst our desi Indo-Pak friends groups (jokingly) that Pakistanis progress faster here because they don't send money home. They have almost left Pakistan forever and they know they are not going to go back to live there, while Indians, at least in their first decade keep sending money to India only. That's because in their minds, India is still their first home where they intend to return back whenever they can. (It's different story that after a few more years, they finally decide to not return, but they have built heavy aseets there in India in mean time).
And you know why so ? It's because of freedom, liberty. Whenever people from conservative countries come and libe in thr liberal ones, they immediately want to settle down there forever. India was comparatively a more liberal country to live by now. (Before Modi came to power ;-) )
India too is now becomming more and more conservative and fanatic country (ruled by mindless fatwas of Sadhus and so called Godmen), and the results of this will be seen in next decade.
Yeah, by now you saw Ambanis building their home in India itself and not abroad, but if India continues to be like this (Modi regime), the next generation of billionaires will not build their next "Antilia" in India ;-) . And I am not saying this as an Indian Muslim but a common citizen. This is the view of freedom loving Hindus too.

You forgot the most important aspect. Bangladesh got rid of Feudalism a long time ago. Land reform allowed political power to shift to masses. Thus masses then got politicians who made policies that would benefit their power base. Thats how you get policies like population control and education investment. Whereas Feudals/Vaderas of Pakistan don't get their power from masses. They control all the land and source of wealth and thus dont need to make pro population policies.

Bangladesh started to work in its education system in the early 90s, and now it is paying off. It is not hard to increase the number of teachers, in fact, that is the easy part. The hardest part is to make rural people understand why education is important and how it will make their lives better. I remember my aunt worked for a prominent Bangladeshi NGO called BRAC and her job was to visit rural parts on Bangladesh and increase awareness for education. In rural Bangladesh, parents did not send girls to school at all and only a small percentage of boys went to school until they were strong enough to work in the rice paddy. If parents do not send their children to school, there will not be any education.

This was a great podcast. Very informative and educational. It was wonderful to listen to the guest and kudos to Junaid Akram for having such talks that are especially beneficial for the young ones out there.
The advice regarding educating Pakistan by the youth sounds really great. I had a similar idea (but it was not as elaborate as the guest's idea) as it gives me great pain to see Pakistani youth searching for jobs and suffering from unemployment. It would be great if the government of Pakistan implements this plan as good ideas like these need to be heard and executed on national level.
We have great minds, potential and ideas in Pakistan. Let's hope all this doesn't go to waste. Once again, what a wonderful podcast!

I am from Bangladesh. Just 30 minutes in your podcast. Superb and one of the best analysis I have ever heard of the comparative analysis of development in the South Asian region. The analysis presented here in my view is an exceptionally accurate explanation and description of the reasoning behind these issues. Thank you for such an excellent and brilliant analysis.

There is a leadership crisis in pakistan. You just can't deny this. No matter how good a Policy maker is trying to perform, there is a lack of one call system in pak. And until a System is established where only one call is in power we can't progress. The nation you are talking about believes in hardworking and constructive growth whereas Pakistan is consistently maintaining its downward trajectory or destructive growth rather in terms of policies or regulations.

    Junaid Bhai great episode.
I could not help coming up with a question.
It was mentioned that Bangladeshi authority changed their whole cabinet, replaced old ones with new because they didn't want the old ones to feel complacent and become idle in their efforts.
So connecting it with the situation in our country and especially how an elaborate effort is required in unidirectional policy making and implementation for our country in a novel and innovative way to begin on the road to betterment.
How can the general youth of Pakistan aspire to contribute towards this governing system in any way they can so as to bring about new leadership that can replace the old faces that we see have been corrupting our political landscape and every other thing as a result of that for so long?
Like Uzair Sahb was sound on his suggestion about the educational restructuring that could be handed over to the youth, so, what can the youth do similarly for restructuring of the political landscape to free it of the old ones who have staggered the systems?
I hope I was able to convey my question properly.

There's Sheikh Mujibur Rahman interview video telling the journalists that an average Bengali trader can buy the whole of London city from what he can make in a week.
I don't know why all Pakistani economist never talk about how West Pakistan tried to force Bengali businessman to only open business and factories in West Pakistan, they also tried to force doctors, engineers, scientists and teachers to move to West Pakistan as did with the East Pakistani military.
Then when the 1971 genocide war started the West Pakistani army only went after to kill Bengali businessmen, doctors, engineers, scientists, teachers and students. Also burnt down the factories and fields.
Is this video a Pakistani neo jealousy talk like their grandfathers in the past?
Like as if we historically were born into poverty!

I think if Pakistan was secular, it would grow faster than India ( as it was in the 50s and 60s)...the internal strife and the bad reputation due to harboring extremists and proscribed terrorist groups has had it's obvious downfalls....otherwise it's so strange and tragic that the part of ancient India, that started the 'Indus Valley Civilization' has slid down to such a dark area...rgds!
