Seems a few people are finding this video!
If you like it, my main is @naii_ , there's better stuff over there. This channel is mostly abandoned :p
valve's whole philosophy is to accept modders. it's where they came from. if it improves your experience and you aren't causing a problem, i don't see why this would be an issue
hi, the skin is really good, thank you so much for it. However are you plannign on updating it? If yes i think it would be really good if you added the old look of the notification when a friend starts playing
When I was growing up I saw the old steam UI on my dad's computer and my brother's computer and when I finally got steam on my own laptop it was the newer steam UI and it looked like garbage
Nobody is interested in payday 3 or tf2 content though
i really like that "green and ugly" design actually
It's so nostalgic, it's my favorite one even more so than the 2010s redesign, even though I never got to use it since I started using Steam in 2010. It's that feeling of nostalgia for something you never had or used at all. At least I got to enjoy a skin that made Steam look like it did in 2003 for a long time until Valve took out skinning support :(.
If you played Half-Life or CS 1.6 or whatever you probably got to experience it's aesthetic long after the main Steam program changed.
the camo colors were rather fitting considering the shooters Valve were known for
bring it back
UIs from the early 2010s were the best :(
true...
And The 2000's Too.
facts
2003 2004 are best
They were not.
Tbh the new Steam UI is one of the best recent redesigns, it remains quite faithful to the way things were in the past. I do like the look of the old Steam, but that's probably more of a nostalgia thing. With many other sites/services/apps, the redesigns make things so much worse.
I love the new UI as well, but i have to agree with everyone that points out how much of a resource hog it is now.
@@dylanh333 Yep agreed, I think it's the most apparent with the chat. The old chat was just so simple and fast!!
@@dylanh333 yeah that's the only problem with Steam for me, overall it's great!
The redesign removed both skins and a majority of the console commands, as well as making things a bit chunkier in a bad way.
i love the new ui roo
I really want the 2013 Steam UI back so bad
Shoutout to metro for steam
does it work for metro?
I did not realize just how much I missed this theming until I installed the mod. Thank you for letting me relive my childhood
Glad to see you are still updating the theme after 2 years, keep up the good work!
I thought the project would've ended when the new update rolled out, the fact that you made it even better now is amazing. Thanks a lot fren :D
man, you are a madlad for doing this, thx alot
I love this but a 2014-2017 version would be cool too
thats what i really want
Same
this is the only "get the old steam ui" guide ive ever followed that has actually worked. thank you
Thank you so much for making this!
thank you man i have been missing the old ui
so yeah Thanks!
Works like a charm, even on Mac. The steamUI folder is in a slightly different location iirc, but I still got it to function.
Thanks for the theme. It looks pretty great.
My anitvirus was being a bit pedantic about downloading SFP but I managed to download and install everything and it looks AMAZING. Thanks for the new look.
You are THE BOSS! Worked here, thanks buddy!
Great job. I started using Steam in 2017, and I liked the interface then. But it always excited me to see the old ui, when I saw a black steam icon unknown to me in old videos.
holy crap dood your work is indeed admired
You are a Hero. Thank you so much for doing this !!!!
Really good video, solid theme too! Only thing is now you can paste the files into steamui/skins/[skin name here] and select Skin in SFP but steamui is probably simplest.
this is awesome dude thank you for this
We thank you for sharing your work.
This video deserves to blow up!
Thank you so much man!! i appreciate it
Was looking in with moderate interest to see how this theme looked, only to see at 3:14, you're someone already on my friends list on Steam!
I'm sure to give this one a good try, I always did miss the old theming, maybe at some point Valve will ease back into making custom themes a thing again.
thanks man like this soo much
THANKS A LOT MAN!
this is sick af thx
this theme looks real amazing not gonna lie! i love it so much and reminds me how good old steam looked liked back in the day!
I love old technology
love the little rant at the end ;)
shut up that's racist
Dude, i remember steam like this when i was a kid and saw my brother have it like that.. Thanks, i love this one alot more
doing gods work man, glad other people feel the same way about the ui
I miss that in the steam's library you would also see some rotating screen shots on the game's pages.
DUDE IT ACTUALLY WORK THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thanks dude its still working
This is actually very good
I don't like old UI's in general, seems like I have no nostalgia, but you do you!
(also the reason performance has decreased is because steam now uses chromium for UI, which is the reason you can inject custom js and css in the first place)
yea the whole thing is just a react app which is certainly a choice (I hate react)
Good stuff man, I also miss the black era of Steam of the early 2010s. Such cool times.
I love this skin! thanks! :D
DAMN thanks man this is cool i was trying to get the small image icons in library from old glory ui but didnt even work i kept having the crisp ui i didnt like it so i found this vid and its gooood
unfortunately, it has not worked for me, it seems that some of the background colour changed but the actual ui or anything else hasn't, kinda a mix of 2013 and modern steam, any idea why this is happening and how can i fix it?
nice thanks
Never was around that era of steam, but if there's one thing that I love is: old-school design of things
Cool stuff
oh thats nice
this is what it looked like when i started using steam, very nostalgic :)
Im proud to have tested it :3
something to add to my collection of old-ification of certain things! and I don't even know why I admire old things too! :D
also thank you for this
thank you so much.
goat
i love you im going to donate to ur kofi when im not broke
Thank you🙏🙏
YOOO THIS ACTUALLY WORKS TYSM
thank you sir,for letting me know that i can change my steam skin
Fun fact I still have a fully working old steam build backed up on my PC, Though the downside is that playing games on it is impossible considering, that steam will automatically delete any game i play on it after playing for like an hour.
THANKS!!
i like the 2021 UI ngl
I miss the UI from 2015-2016. Made my account in late 2015
THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS MEANS A LOT MATE
YT just recommended this to me, looks nice although it feels strange to me for some reason
nice
I'd like an older theme to a, nice working the comunnity is thanks
Thanks for making this! I started playing on steam in 2011 (when my dad brought home our first Windows 7 desktop, before I had to use one of two old Macs a PPC and intel both running tiger os which steam didn't support) this brings back so many memories, I always loved those hash marks on the top of the window that add texture. I'm currently running this on Debian with IceWM using a window vista theme and the two fit nicely together (though I might track down a windows 7 theme). By chance is there anyway to disable the modern shelves when using this theme for a fully authentic experience? Right now I'm just clicking on a random game in the left hand list to hide the shelves whenever I relaunch steam.
It would probably require javascript to force Steam on a game and idk how to do that.
Steam DID have a grid view back then so I can make it look accurate, but the sucky behavior of those views being contextual instead of selectable would be hard (for me) to change.
i def like the new ui more, but damn this takes me back.
liked for the Gorillaz vinyl in the beginning
over 8 months later...Thank you for this Ivan. This isnt really worth it though due to having to always have SFP open. They have SFP injection on steam start option, but it doesnt work.
started using steam in 2014 and back when the new UI dropped in 2019 i thought it looked better. Then the new new UI dropped last year and i was like "yeah this is the most practical one"
But deep down i miss the 2010s UI because of nostalgia
This steam was pretty.
I have steam for 19 years so next year will be 20 years of steam. I even used the drab green anticheat and serverbrowser steam :D
I really want Steam to look like 2003 again.
I like the green. Every Valve game after Steam and before Counter-Strike: Source had this theme. That also made the experience unified. CS2 should have this also, because it would call back to the CS 1.6, where Steam and every Valve game had the same theme.
god bless you
Does this also affect the steam overlay in-game? I personally started using Steam in 2019 so I can't recall anything old apart from the old steam overlay, which is the one I miss the most.
Finally We can use it Steam with the Hatsune Miku theme once again :)
I really want the 2003 design
YES!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I miss the old UI SO DAMN MUCH! +rep
Metro for Steam used to look so clean back in the day, why did they ever disable skin support?
There's any way to have horizontal banners in the libraly like the old times in 2024?
this is very good except for the fact that is feels slow.
also, group chats are not visible unfortunately.
Bit of a bump as I was only now sent this video, but does the theme actually reduce the abhorrent memory usage of the WebHelper with the modern UI?
found this channel thru a 2014 undertowgames forum post. pleasantly surprised.
i gotta be honest, i like the new color palette. but i completely agree that the old ui design was a lot better
honestly, thank you for this. I have never liked the steam ui. too messy and overwhelming. this makes it so much easier to read
Is it even possible to change the storefront? Doesn't the store page work by having the website displayed on the client?
2:45 unfortunately cant anymore
After you're done with this mess can you please do a 2015-ish ui update
thats when i started playing steam
do i have to inject everytime i start steam? also i dont notice performence difference, but i do love this very much thanks for making this so much!!!!!!!!
You can turn on "run on boot" and "minimize to tray" in the settings so you dont really have to do anything
i installed all the files included, but the friends panel still looks like the current one
was SFP closed? It injects custom css on the fly, as windows are loaded. If you don't keep it open while running Steam only anything you had open at the time will get skinned.
Will this be for all users? I only want to install this for my account
Even tho current version of steam takes too much resources i still do prefer it more than the previous ones. I dunno... Maybe it's lack of nostalgia for old steam because I started using it in 2017
I like the steam from 2020 :/ But this project is wonderfull
sadly this will break when the steam families update comes out.
patcher devs are working on methods to fix themes. They'll be fine, just a little more annoying to work with.
@@naii_ alright, thanks for letting me know
damn...
Still woking on 14/10/23 2.54am
If it breaks is ot good to just remove?
Can I use your project as a base to make Steam skin for the 2019 version of the Steam client?
