Thank you for your video! I cleaned my older brother in law's solenoid of his deere. And then she magically started. He thinks I am a genius and can fix anything now. This is a blessing and a curse. But I will ride the high for the moment. Thank you! Cheers!
You're an absolute lifesaver, man. I've been working on my D170 off and on for about a month now. I've watched nearly every video for a non-start Mower on TH-cam, replaced virtually all of the parts of the mower and still couldn't get it to start. Turns out it was the solenoid on the carburetor that got stuck like yours. Got my Mower up and running and managed to tackle 6 acres. THANK YOU! I nearly lost hope with getting it fixed on my own.
Thanks for the video!!! I came to the internet to see how to drain the bowl, didnt even know about the solenoid- turns out that it was sticky and likely the solution. Just for everyone out there since i started running seafoam in all my small engines ive never had to touch a carb. This was a new mower to me. Its running great now. Fwiw the muffler was definitely part of your problem.
Great video! Going to look at a D140 to buy later this afternoon, your video has been helpful to learn about the quirks on these. From a creator standpoint, I like your vlog style!
The k torque trans are very prone to failure. The trans belt is almost never the problem. Its difficult to do on these models but you can check the oil level through the vent tube. Often its just low and needs a top off.
Yo dude , from Tennessee here I got into flipping mowers and LOVE watching your videos 👍🔧👌 I recently got a John Deere 145 and it does move but it seems a little sluggish going up a hill what do you find is the most common issue with those.????
I’m glad you are enjoying watching the channel! There’s really only two things you can do to help it (if the transmission is not worn out). 1) Drive belt - make sure the drive belt tensioner is putting good tension on the belt. Replace the belt if it is too stretched or worn. 2) You could try changing the transmission fluid. That’s where I would start. Those fixes can take a bit of time to do (especially changing the fluid), and it’s certainly possible that transmission is just getting worn out. If that’s the case, you could rebuild or replace it, but that’s probably more money than it’s worth. I have sold mowers before where the transmissions were operable, just not %100, but I make sure the buyer understands that it’s not performing how I would expect it to.
not bad looking ive got that cub cadet zero turn mower still but i got some newish tires an im having an issue tryna get the new tires beaded an your truck kindly sounds like the battery an or sounds like something is draining the battery or not getting charged
Niether, it’s a Briggs and Stratton thing. Most (all?) of the Briggs V-twins have plastic intake manifolds these days, and they tend to get warped from being over tightened to the carburetor. When that happens, sometimes it allows air in and throws off the mixture. Some Briggs V-twins came with a cast metal intake manifold where that wouldn’t be an issue. I don’t see those very often though. I think that was an earlier design.
The other day i decided to try and clean my own carburetor (just to try and do some maintenace)and may have used a slightly larger jet brush than needed to clean all of the jets, put everything back together and now motor only turns over on full choke and also only stays at full rpm. Would it be safe to assume i ruined my carb? Thanks, love your content man.
@@garagestory it was running pretty decent. I might have not been so careful and missed something. Going to take it apart again before grass season starts. Called the local parts store and they want 250 for a new carb! Are most of these carbs universal or brand specific?
Brand name carburetors are pretty expensive. You can get cheaper ones off Amazon or eBay, but they might not work as good as an OEM one, or you might have to adjust them more. Sometimes that cheap one will work great out of the box, but not always. I would certainly try going through yours again and making sure there isn’t anything messed up or missing.
We had this guy come in and put a cap of gas in the carburetor and it started after sitting all winter. We’re having problems again and it. Just doesn’t sound like it’s starting.
Putting the gas in the carburetor was essentially priming it. If you are having problems again, there’s a good chance it’s the safety solenoid on the carburetor that has frozen up.
Dude I'm at a loss with my D140 I tore the carb out and can't get the linkage back in position at 10:28 that linkage with the white bracket I can't figure that one out.
I’m not sure what the white bracket is? The choke linkage is on one side, and the throttle on the other. Usually you can finagle it enough to get it in without too much issue (when the carb is in uninstalled). The issue with these is that sometimes the linkage will rub the plastic intake manifold. If it’s not too bad, I just leave it. But I have also carved the plastic out with a rotary tool to help get rid of the rubbing. I don’t usually do that.
I'm trying to reinstall mine. And can't figure out the choke linkage how to get it back installed. There are no clear photos of what it should look like and the diagrams suck! I just made a tiktok to see if get anywhere with that

That’s great!! I’m glad you got it running! Those solenoids are pesky. Some people like to cut them off so they don’t have to worry about them.

Nice! Thanks for watching!
Another fuel solenoid here on a John Deere D140. Cleaned it out, freed it up, and then it started right up. Thanks for the tip!
That’s great!! Unfortunately, usually after they stick once, they start sticking more easily.
@@garagestory Have you tried any aftermarket fuel shut off solenoids? Expensive part from Deere. Thanks!
I have here and there. I’ll probably be doing more in the future. So far I haven’t had an issue with an aftermarket solenoid that I remember.
