I think this test was harder because it was on printer paper and you guys tend to do your tests on other papers so it was really hard to compare to daily use. Also printer paper dries so fast. Very interesting and I loved seeing the side by side. Can we see more of these with different product types?
Agree, I think if Stephanie was given her preferred paper to write on (what she usually uses) would have helped her a lot more. Give Martin (love him! Glad he’s back!) the same paper she uses, and a piece of regular copy paper…and let him see the difference!
@@Myscottiestudiofor me, it's different 😄 I use one of the kokuyo's loose leaf paper, and I find the sarasa clip on being too smooth it's slippery. Also, it takes longer to dry and I'm a lefty, so a no for me. I almost exclusively use only sarasa and pentel energel, but I only use sarasa when it's on other paper than the kokuyo loose leaf paper, since I find pentel energel to be slightly scratchy, but works well in the loose leaf paper.
I'm not into gel pens, but this was SO fun to watch. 😂 It's okay, Stephanie! We all get a little shook sometimes. Now you know, trust yourself 😁 We need more videos like these. Maybe expert vs expert also?
OF COURSE NUMBER 2 IS MY BELOVED ENERGEL! The needle tip gives it away… i have not finished the video, but I was screaming Energel (Clena) as soon as she said needle tip. Please note how the first one is kinda shiny but the Energel is matte? That is why I don’t like the signo, sorry, i like my inks quick drying, pigmented and matte.
I had it wrong too xD number one was not the signo… but is shiny so… nah…. I have tried the sharpie one, is good, but doesn’t dry as fast as i like… Energel all the way ❤
Thank you for posting this excellent video. I am impressed with Martin for participating in this, and he is doing rather well, I would say. Way to go, Martin! I am equally impressed with Stephanie, and she is doing rather well, too. I want to thank Miriam for planning and filming the video with excellence, and in addition, administering the test samples to both Martin and Stephanie. In other words, Miriam did a number of tough jobs and did them very well indeed.
This video is so interesting as a pen hoarder and fanatic, I haven’t finished it but I somehow have this gut feeling that pen number 2 is definitely the energel 😆
Wow, I think Martin’s comments on Zebra Sarasa were absolutely accurate, especially this one “more than enough pigmentation”. Stephanie’s instincts had been right when she tried the Zebra at the first time.
My favorite part: "Don't look at my grip, you can't see my grip but don't look at it." 1:01 - (I've probably commented about Stephanie's grip in a past video.) 😆
You know, I was thinking about JetPens on my evening walk and I think it would be wonderful if an older JetPens employee (in his or her late 50s or early to mid-60s, for example!) also participated in product tests like this one. You understand, I very much enjoy Martin and Stephanie in this video. It would just be nice to get the views of an older employee in addition. 😀
would love to see people compare also with muji and uniball signo pens, since those are quite popular from what ive seen! signos have been my preference for years and i am a life-long loyal fan of them haha! i just got an energel, and i definitely still prefer the signos, although i do love clicking the energel so i've been using it a lot lately :)
❤this video!! 😂 Get you out of a comfort zone… Stephanie, you were awesome 👏, ya took the pressure and won 🏆 in my book!! Martin, you did great for a “newbie”!!
As ur other residential stationery expert viewer, as soon as i saw the needle point tip, i was like PENTEL ENERGEL ITS PENTEL ENERGEL! and i was vv happy to see Stephanie say the same
I would like to see a test where any random newbie would be able to tell the difference between a gel and a rollerball pen. They are given a pen and blindfolded and they have to tell if its a gel or a rollerball! People in my class call the V5 as some new-fangled gel pen and I repeatedly growl at them as a stationery nerd about how its actually a rollerball.
As soon as Stephanie was questioning the tip size on the bonus pen I was certain of it being a ballpoint, the thin line and poorer ink flow were giveaways. I don't have a lot of experience with gel pens, but have used the Uni-Ball One, Sharpie S-Gel, and Pentel Energel, as well as some Studio gel pens from Dollarama in Canada. My rankings for those: 1) Pentel Energel, nice smooth writer and the larger grip make it great. 2) Uni-Ball One, Would be number one except for the smaller grip 3) Sharpie S-Gel, despite a larger grip than the Uni-Ball, it's harder to get started when new and not as smooth. 4) Studio gel pens, may as well be a ballpoint with how scratchy it is and how hard it is to get going. As a note, I write most of the time on copy paper.
Omg…I am such a gel pen addict that this video made me happy 😃. I collect these but saraza clips and vintage .5m are my favourites. Not a fan of mark-on and S-gel. Dong-A needle point is also good for me. I can easily get if its ballpoint though since I only use gel pens.
The only inks I would recognize instantly are Energel 0.5mm and Uni Jetstream 0.38, because I love them so much and use them every day, I just swap the pen bodies depending on how I’m feeling.
LOLLL!!! Miriam! So my first semester in college I would get SO mad at myself because I would change answers on tests and I would ALWAYS have been right the first time. I vowed from my second semester to graduation to never EVER change my first answers no matter what. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 4.0.
That was so cool. Loved the video. The sky is the limit with the comparison stuff. Maybe paper? Pen's are hard. My favorite gel pen is the Pentel energel. But I bought some of those Ohto gels 1.5mm --those are fun and fat lined.
Jetstream si so good, I would never recognise it in fair comparison (I mostly use 0.7 Energel, so that is quite a difference in feel, compared to Uni 0.7). I would have problems even with Pilot Acroball. They are both very, very good when comes to feel.
:)))) didnt expect I got the mark on and the energel right! I haven't use all of them, but watch enough your video, ad maybe how Stephanies analyzed these pens. It must be confusing when directly hold and write with them :))
Of course Energel won over the newbie. Still the best. I recently got an Energel Sterling, and was given a Philography for my birthday, (both all metal refillable pens using Energel refills) So I'm all Energel all the time. 😍
I knew it's jetstream just from your comments, before you spilled that it's a jetstream.. When you said this is can't be 0.5, and might be not a gel pen, that's clearly jetstream for me.. I feel PROUD.. I'm an EXPERT.. 😮
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 LOVE these videos - Steph IS my girl - she goes head-to-head with anyone, anywhere, anytime - GO Steph! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (btw, I have used EnerGels since they debuted - GREAT pen)
For the discerning individual who loves a beautiful pen -- i e., fancy -- but doesn't want to spend $5+ on a refill (typical for higher-end pens) that is honestly not that smooth or pigmented -- or you want an ink color that represents your uniqueness -- THEN LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY ONDORO ROLLERBALL!!! Sadly, JetPens doesn't carry this Faber-Castell beauty, but the Ondoro given to me recently as an incredible birthday gift takes my favorite gel refill, the Pentel Infree, which is a lot like the Pentel EnerGel but features some different ink colors (fits Pilot gel ink refills, too, despite their proprietary design, and the Zebra Sarasa, plus many others). 💚🤍💙 Just wanted to let others know bc anyone enjoying this video may be wanting a gorgeous resin pen that will accept refills like these. 😊
Haha don't worry, I thought the first one you tested was the pentel energel. I'm mad at myself for getting that one wrong, coz I've been using the pentel energel for a year and a half by now and loving it, so I should know 😂
If you liked this video, be sure to subscribe so you don't miss out on part 2!✨

I exclusively use Energel cartridges in Sarasa bodies. It's by far the nicest gel cartridge, and I'm finally validated in thinking that!
I already feel bad throwing out the Sarasa cartridges but ohwell hahahahuhuhu
I don’t like Sarasa cartridges. I find them scratchy.
@@Myscottiestudiofor me, it's different 😄

@@Myscottiestudio Time for a fountain pen.
Stephanie out here gaslight, gatekeep, girlbossing herself into the wrong answers 😂
I loved Martin's methodical and stress-free attitude, you go Martin!
Fantastic video! Any time Stephanie can be off script is always absolute gold.

I'm sticking with Stephanie that printer paper changes everything! Even a run of the mill notebook paper might have yielded different results?
I'm barely a quarter through and I am enjoying it so much! Maybe next time it should be JetPens Stationery Expert vs. JetPens Fan!
Energel is the bomb. I use brown refills on my Machine Era brass body, and it's such a great combo. Smooth, saturated lines, just lovely.

One of my favorite JetPens videos to date! Enjoyed all the pensive looks from Stephanie & pen newbie descriptions from Martin
This video is so interesting as a pen hoarder and fanatic, I haven’t finished it but I somehow have this gut feeling that pen number 2 is definitely the energel 😆
I'd love to see this again but with the same people using their favorite pen against different papers!
I recently bought the Sharpie S Gel. I like the ink but the barrel doesn’t work with my grip so its nice to know it’ll fit in a Sarasa body.
TBH if I were Stephanie I would have had the same reactions. Also, Energel is my favorite gel pen, so glad to see it did so well 😁
Martin is cute, he should be in more videos!

"My girl" Steph is quite an entertainer! Kudos to the newbie too!

Confused Stephanie has improved my morning. :D
I love our gal Stephanie off-scrpt. That frustration was so me after midterms. Why do we second guess ourselves!
As a pencil pushing lefty, my fave is Energel. But I can never find cute barrels! I use the alloy barrel but I i dont like it.
