Got several of these and a supply of tablets. They make the best backpacking stoves or for stealth camping. I have a screen I put on mine so no adjustment is necessary. I used to use a butane light weight backpacking stove, but I took one time on a trip, it worked out awesome, for the three days on the trail, there is enough tablets to have three hot meals, coffee. I've used several tablets and made a complete meal. Instant potatoes, gravy that needs water only, canned meats , canned vegetables. Or just boiling water for those dehydrated food pouches. Despite what the result is here.
Nice review. @2:30, it’s good that it’s tight to fold. I have an older version from the army that doesn’t have that feature, and I have to be careful it don’t collapse under my pots.
I used similar 40 years ago. It was included with your days rations in the UK Army. Only difference was the waxy solid fuel tablet was square about 1.5x1.5x0.5 inch in size
The tube type mini M&M containers they sell at cash registers in the stores are the perfect size to store and carry the fuel tabs and keeps the stink down.
I was thinking if you took some plyers and bent those sort spike looking metal peices down just a bit. Not enough that it stops it from closing all the way but enough that when you bend it in wards to make those pegs flatter. It would probably make it a perfectly flat surface for pots and pans so they dont wobble. Hope that makes sense to anyone who has issues using it like that. A little mcgyvering could fix that small issue with it.
I saw another comment about the Sterno gelled alcohol cans, and I just wanted to say there's ways of making gelled alcohol at home so you can use an altoids tin of home gel for a wider flame to avoid hot spots
FYI, to anyone who cares, the 6.1oz (173g) Sterno cans do NOT fit. The top of the stove is too low and the bottom of the pan will snuff the flame out. A shorter Sterno can may fit. Of course, it also works as a twig stove if you run out of fuel tablets.
One guy made a little grate for something similar to that so you could use it wide open. Should have oriented it so the wind direction was against the solid side not through the open side. You lost a lot of heat the way you had it. The fuel tab was probably over a hole which is why it fell through. Reposistion the fuel on the plate. Position the cup handles away from the flame.
If you think that stove is compact then check out the classic bundeswher esbit stove. That one is compact if annything, I was suprised myself when I got mine, its like a deck of cards👍also use a peece of tin foil to prevent the tablets from falling down. 😉
It's cheaper to buy two stoves. I just bought one for the first time to put in my EDC bag. I think I would use the fuel tabs just to start off a twig stove
Bought one in Thailand, $1 only with 8 square Esbit tablets. The stove was junk but worth it for the fuel tablets. I have Esbit stove bought for $4 army surplus, so the fuel is a bargain at $1.
It's a copy of an ESBIT Emergency pocket stove made in Germany and any stove you see like this is a copy of this stove I have 5 of them ESBIT is the original and it will hold 4 Esbit fuel tabs and still close and you use one at a time and you can use wood in it sticks of wood and it will boil water use a wind screen or block the wind to use out doors have fun with it

Ahhh! Never thought about that! Thank you for watching!
Also thank you for your service!
I recently bought one like it and it came with aa seperate top that looked like rhe cover of desktop computer fan. This solves the wonky problem.

Very cool! Woah! Did the stove look the same too or different?
Which regiment mate?
I was issued something verry simular to this in the uk millitary. Its very basic very good kit, with no frills. It does the job.
I love this, and the esbit stove,( which it looks like but bigger) have used them for decades, and have never failed me.
Even used twigs.

Oh sweet! Good to know!! Thank you!!

That’s a great idea! Definitely worth a try considering how inexpensive these actually are!
Need to cover the cup without open side, would heat faster without vent.
Carry a metal lit from a jam jar inside, and you can burn any alcohol based fuel. Hand sanitizer, rub alcohol, ethanol, even vodka and rhe like.

Thank you very much for the useful information! I’ve learned a lot especially after this video haha!
Coghlans Emergency Stove resembles the Esbit pocket cooker, Esbit -Taschenkocher.
A comparison of these two cookers would be quite interesting...
The tablets are fantastic for use as fire starters.
❤ great review mate. cheers x
Awesome video! Love to see you return to creating content, hammocks are fun idea for a video
I may end up doing one of those in the future!! I will be doing outdoor videos so hey might see one out in the wild!! Thank you for watching!

Thank you for the advice on the foil!

That’s a really good idea!! I like that! I have ordered a camping stove already and I like the idea of this becoming a last minute solution
Thanks.
I hope your table is OK.
They work well with small sterno or a tuna, or potted meat tin filled with alcohol .. Cheers.
Have it in my bug out bag...hope I never have to use it.
Hey at least you have it, better safe than sorry
Buy another and practice with it so you know it’s capabilities and limitations. TH-cam is no substitute for hands on learning.
Dont worry, you wont
Don’t forget to subscribe if you are new and comment and video ideas for the outdoor?!!
