I saw one being used about two months ago. I knew I needed one for making my tea when I go to the park. I fired it up for the first time yesterday. I have an SS cup to heat the water. It took exactly 10 minutes to bring the water to make steam. Perfect for me. Super easy to use and as long as you apply a little common sense when using it, it's perfectly safe. What a great little package. I'm so glad I purchased it. Barry
I purchased one because I live in a condo and I wouldn't be able to warm food outside in the event of an emergency. I purchased the catering streni cans that can be used inside. I think its a good option if you can't or don't want to go outside. This would also be good to take if you have to evacuate.
Throw a lid on that pot and I think you may get to that rolling boil. I was able to get a rolling boil using Sterno and my camp cup with a lid over it. Thanks for the vid.
Travis That response of throw a lid on me made me laugh. I was disappointed to see it didn't boil the water and then you brought out the obvious. Throw a lid on it.lol
I read, as long as the canned heat says UL Certified, it can be used indoors. I think the caterers use the UL Certified canned heat. Or Chaffing Fuel. 😊
Put a lid on your pot if you want to boil water! Also, don’t use that kind of fuel...it doesn’t burn hot! Get a regular alcohol stove like the the Trangia and use a lid on your pot...this whole video would of been different.
I have been using a home-made stove constructed from a coffee tin using something similar to chafing fuel for the past two decades. That fuel can is a wast of time IMHO but what you want to do is to use an empty tuna tin or cat food tin that will fit into the burner and fill it halfway with chafing fuel. Chafing fuel can be purchased from a catering supplier in one gallon plastic bottles. When you have completed cooking, you can place a small metal plate (a flattened tin can or softdrink can will work) on top of the open can base which will extinguish the flame and the gel in the can will form a vacuum seal as it cools which means you can use and top-up the fuel in future. The fuel in chafing fuel is ethanol mixed with calcium carbonate for stability and you can literally use it as hand sanitiser or to disinfect small cuts and scrapes. It is also dead easy to simply blow out the flame in the can. The entire stove will have cooled within five minutes. Don't ever top up the fuel while the fire is either burning or the stove is hot or you will propel a jet of flaming gel from that plastic bottle which could cause severe injuries. That gel fuel is also a good fire starter. In my home-made stove, after I have blown out the flame I would place a second empty tin with the bottom facing down on top of the tin containing the fuel and that forms an instant vacuum that preserves the fuel. On occasion I have knocked over the entire stove with burning gel over my sleeping bag and I literally smacked the spilled flaming gel out with my hand without either burning my hand or damaging the sleeping bag. I regularly use the stove indoors though in a well-ventilated room with doors and windows open.
In air I got water to 175f. When I dug a hole and used it in there it was about 180F. Definitely enough for coffee, ramen, etc. Also, keeping it covered made a huge difference in time. About 15min for both experiments.
I love it. It reminds me of the old one. I have somebody stole all my camping equipment it was because I wasn’t exactly a survivalist. I was homeless, and it was an easy way to make food when I didn’t have a place to live.

Slow-cooked some ramen... Worked good! Maybe I'll try it with the actual can next time!😂😂 Perfect for a one man pack, light camping trip.🎉 I had to strike the tinder just outside the stove and then set it in the stove.i would add the stix after i get flames... You can get canned heat from your local dollar tree. Reviews say that this Coghlan stove positions the canned heat closer to the cooking surface. You can cook inside with it but the first time, light it outdoors and allow the manufacturing oils to burn off. Use a lid on the pot of water to get the water boiling more quickly and for less water loss to steam. The water WILL boil if you cover the pot!
If you bought one these most people will have a mess kit and use the little pot with the lid on. It will boil if you use the lid. When by the fuel by the Sterno it burned hotter and cans last around 6 hours
