  • Railroad Switching on Short Line Railroad in Ohio. Sardinia, Ohio has 8 classic locomotives in one small railroad town. The train arrived with 3 locomotives and 3 cars. The cars were cut off and one locomotive was swapped for another that had been on the engine maintenance track inside the railroad wye. Watch the railroad shunting action as the classic locomotives go back and forth. We also get to see the train pass by us near Macon, Ohio after the switching was done. We see the railroad crossing that just had new railroad crossing gates installed. There are also a couple of Norfolk Southern SD40-2 locomotives stored there for their new owner. This is the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. CCET leases 69 route miles of track from NS and Sardinia is the main area for locomotive maintenance . Filmed February 15, 2022.

Hey! Señor Jaws! If it's not too far outta yer comfort zone, could ya maybe ask da CCET locomotive boyz runnin' the two new red engines and the green one to come down here and put on a switching, shunting and shuffling show? I got a perfect downtown Puebla spot for 'em at el Museo Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Mexicanos, Puebla. It's only a few blocks close to where I live in El RobPalacio (the name I give my apartment). Lotta folks with interest already at the museum. Warm, sunny weather today... high of 81°F. I know a fun and inexpensive taco place near their show (great for babe watchin'). Great price for a kilo of either al pastor or carne arabe (that's the meat), red and green salsa (careful on the salsa verde... muy picante) a stack of corn tortillas and some rice (Mexican style). Great performance today. Gracias por tu video. RT sends... envía... Colonia Centro Histórico, Puebla, México...

I like that power to cars ratio. Three locomotives with 6,800 horsepower and three empty cars. Add a couple ironing boards and we could fly.

They may be doing there locomotive inspections at Sardinia too. The daily inspection can be done by the engineer. But the 31 day, 92 day, and the annual inspections are done by the mechanical department.

Love those old workhorses. When I was a pup growing up in Cincy, I'd run down the hill and watch shortline ops for hours. It was all fascinating like watching a game. Locos positioning cars, lining them, big guys throwing manual switches, the lead loco is now the rear, pulling the whole consist away, horns, lights, gates up and down. Youth, man.

I'd love to see inside of locomotive you know they climb up in them I assume they go in through the nose do they even have a kind of a porta-potty or what happens if they really have to go while they're on the road I've always heard that there's a you know a dead man's switch and just wondering how that all works today

    • @daddyof3girls09
      @daddyof3girls09 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

There are videos of inside tours, but to answer your questions, (I'm not a rail reader just been around them a lot) Most of the mainline "road" engines (6axles) do have bathrooms in the cab from what I've seen they are small and cramped, but do serve the purpose. As for the Deadman switch, I believe you're referring to a button that must be pressed occasionally to make sure the engineer is awake and paying attention. If it's not activated then the brakes will automatically apply to stop the train.

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Those locomotives are really neat to watch and listen to. I actually took pictures of them before CCET bought them. They use to run on the TTI Railroad in Paris, Kentucky. Almost all of TTI tracks are now out of service so they sold 2 of them to CCET. One of these days I plan on filming the TTI tracks before they get removed

    • @georgejenista9487

Watching the video, at 6:55 I noticed that there was a flash under 1657 that looked like sparks. A closer examination revealed that it was just the de-railer catching the reflection of the sun light as the loco passed over it.
JT I pulled up Google Maps and took a look at the Sardinia "Y". From the appearance on the map, it doesn't look like the "Y" is in that great of shape and on the area just across Tri County Highway, it looks like it is not in usable condition. Any chance you can you could update the condition of the "Y"?
Have you talked to any of the workers for the CNET to see if they are planning on improving the Yard in Sardinia? By the way it looks, there isn't a whole lot of flexibility for moving the loco's around outside of the single house track.
Last question. What is the overall track length that the CNET is operating on? In reviewing the map, it seems in good working order from Cincinnati to Ashland KY / Huntington WV area.
    Very cool video!!

I am fortunate in my work to drive to accounts like Sheetz in Altoona,Weis Mkts in Sunbury, and C&S in Robesonia.
Never get tired of going to the Curve.
If you've never been to Tyrone, that's a great place to see some in town freight railroading as well as long consistent main line freights too.
      Brian's the best,no doubt.
He's so right on these trains in his area.
Another great train viewing place is in Alburtis, off Rt 100.
The mainline freights come trucking out of the Allentown Yards thru Alburtis, the town.
But,if you set up on Schoenersburg Road near the RR crossing, you can catch NS,UP sometimes CPRail coming from the Midwest to Allentown and vice versa.
You can catch a nice long run of the locos sides either way and without a scanner you can hear them in plenty of time.
Superb photos when there snow on the ground!!

Wow - the Dash 7 could use a paint job to spruce it up, right ? The MP 15 DC probably needed a tune-up / inspection as per FRA regulations, so into the house track for a spell. Good to see the crossing signals being added and upgraded - might mean more traffic on the railroad soon. That would be a bonus for the railfans !

It was very cool how because of the angle of the sun in the last shot after the new crossing the shadow of the engines preceded them on the other side of the track. I have never seen a dog and cat be such good friends as Chessie and Norfie. Thanks for sharing them . All Great!

I say Mr Jaw Tooth, a jolly good bit of shunting on your American railway line! I am glad to see that the influence of us, your British viewers, is starting to really have an effect. You will be talking about the wooden railway sleepers next!
On a serious note, it is sad to see our old friend 2414 being dumped off. Hope that we will see this locomotive ride again :(

Wow Brian, way kewl video, one of the very best I've seen of local switching operations.
Really like the CE paint scheme.
You always get us the best shots and good "color" commentary too.
My favs will always be the intown vids though.
Ohio seems to have all the cool RR spots.
We lived in Arlington Heights,Illinois for 12 years when Pop worked for Sara Lee.
Dad would take me to the Chicago RR yards to see trains.
There, you saw everything from East to West railroads.
    SF,IC,MR,SOO,UP,NP,GN,NYC,Pennsy,SP,Rock Island,N&W,GT etc.
Shame we are down to four majors now.
Getting tired of seeing black engines and CSX's rusted out, beer can, rolled down the ravine locks.
    But,what else is there,right?
