Correction I meant E Lydian not Phrygian on Safri Duo (Not that it matters) Also it's really Jamie Principle that should be credited with Your Love, though the Frankie Knuckles release popularised it, it is more of an edit/ new production. All of the musical elements including the arp are Mr Principles my bad for missing that
I can argue why this is important: many people enjoy the sound of certain types of modes, for example, the Dorian mode. The very concept of modes is created to convey a specific type of feeling and mood. Additionally, for some genres of music, certain modes are used more frequently; for instance, the Phrygian mode in Slap House. By understanding the concept of modes, they can be combined in different parts of a track while using the same set of notes. This allows for a more thoughtful and interesting composition.
Hi! At least it only took me a couple mins to check the. comments. LOL! You taught me what phrygian mode was and E was the first one I tried (for obvious reasons) so when you said it had an F# I was wracking my brain trying to figure out if you were borrowing a chord from the relative major, and if so, why the II chord (of E phrygian).
I would love to see a video or a little mini series of videos in which you talk about some of the fundamental principles of approaching music. Like for context, I like how you break down the purpose of instruments in any given song (like in this video you mentioned Arps act as a way to affect the tension). Because as a beginner to music production, it’s helpful to know what I should be trying to do and ask myself at any given part of the song. And I really like your framework for how to do so.
He has some pretty brilliant stuff like this in his earlier videos. I highly recommend going back and looking at his fundamentals series. I learned a lot
Hate to be that guy, but "Your Love" was written and originally produced by Jamie Principle, he was the on who chose to have a sustained VI throughout 😉

I think I've watched every one of your videos from the beginning. It is like you are my much needed teacher. Thank you for your sharing and humour (i just love it), master! I'm just so new in music production and I'd like to know if you have some suggestions for sample packs for us, producers to have like essentials drum packs. Maybe a list, that would be beyond awesome :)
There isn't really just one pack I could recommend sorry. Most sample packs only have a handful of good samples in there and and 80% of them probably go unused. Also it's heavily genre dependent. That's why I always recommend Splice , it's the only audio subscription I pay for as I hate subscriptions in general but Splice is worth it.
Ahh. Been missing a lot of you content of late. This just popped up in the feed and by goodness it is excellent and have missed it. You take this to another level. Have a coffee. You deserve it.
The other day I stumbled upon guitar pluck arp made of the 3 repeating notes over 4 chords that felt good enough to make a track - thought I was "doing it wrong" cos I didnt change notes to match chords...but looks like it is a style
Ow man that tune on 1m20 gave me an instant flashback and goosebumps. I had an mixtape in the nineties from dj SY where he played a remix with Candi Staton. I dont know how many times I listened that..
Great video and very interesting as always! I love arps in house and trance tracks. My favourite thing is to use a low pass filter and play the arp over 16 or 32 bars while slowly opening the filter up.

there's a really nice arp in Jerome Isma-ae & Alastor's track 'String of Lights', that i've been trying to work out what makes it so good. Ive tried re-creating it but theres something missing. Not sure if it's layered or what.. but it's so juicy. It's the star of the track. You should take a look.
