Well, being a follower of this genre for a decade, from what I saw online, if there was an imprisonment then it was because of monitising the release of porn material (SVSSS in this case), not because of just 'writing' it. This is considered crime in mainland China probably for quite some time (i mean, prostitution is also banned so kinda makes sense) so back then it was common for bl writers to post sensitive chapters only privately (via so called anonymous BBS, these days as Weibo posts/tweets) or somehow get the full book published in Taiwan instead where it was legal to do so. If done in Taiwan the language will be in traditional Chinese. But in SVSSS release that's in question, it's in simplified Chinese (I saw people trading this version so I know). Just some context that I'd like to share so people don't just jump to conclusions or get carried away by emotions. I'm not 'picking a side' and would not encourage anyone to do this. I'm not too familiar with countries' laws outside the USA but within the USA there has been quiet a few bigots/homophobas pushing back on LGBTQ+ to the point that some of them have been actively burning books with LGBTQ+ themes (thinking about it.. I wouldn't be surprised if prostitution would also be on that pile. since, most of them believe in the ideal of innocence: tbh innocence of knowledge is over rated because it makes children and adults more susceptible to manipulate and abuse) aside from book burnings there's even legislation in some states trying to bully LGBTQ+ youths into marriage and silence.

Totally agree. If I had to be honest, I enjoyed SVSS way more than TGCF or MDZS because the MC was so relatable and I absolutely loved his constant comments regarding whatever situation he's in. But the story did seem like it was all over the place xD But then again it's been a while since I've read it so I may be remembering wrong...

Yessss, me too started with mdzs and read all of mxtx novels, then stumbled upon legendary master wife and white cat shizun 😙. Then after I met priests novels I knew this was it for me, I was never gonna get out of the deep pit of Chinese danmei. Have read more than 60 and ongoing.

SVSSS is my favorite work. If it was told from pretty much any other perspective it would be the most heartbreaking tragedy, but Shen Yuan just makes it perfect crack. Best choice of a POV character ever.

This fandom has literally taken over my life. It started with TGCF, then MDZS, and now SVSSS. I've read the novels (that have been released so far), seen the animations, and now the manwas and fanfiction.... Mxtx has completely changed my life. And the way Coly just sums up my feelings for this fandom in this video just shows how far gone I am into this fandom. TGCF is the purest love, MDZS is mostly angst, and SVSSS is so full of misunderstandings and miscommunication like JUST CONFESS ALREADY 😩😩. but this fandom is indeed a masterpiece

Now for more school work to abandon, here are my recommendations : - 2ha or The Husky and his White cat Shizun (aka the most angsty stuff you'll find out there) - Sha Po Lang (just amazing story and planning, I love the non fantastical aspect of the book) - Qiang Jin Jiu (What I like about this book is that it has a lesbian couple, and 2 gay couples! Also, I LOVE THE STORY SO MUCH) Finally, honorable mention to Faraway Wanderers of which I have heard a lot of good things but since I haven't read it yet, you will be the judge of that. (Also, I was joking, please do not abandon your school work...)

yh i watched the show (mdzs), then the first 2 seasons of the donghua before flipping a table for more and scavenging the internet to read the novel.... you can imagine my confused face when watching the first 2 adaptations but still oddly intrigued for more and now here i am understanding all these references in this video
The plots mxtx came up with for mdzs and tgcf are so intricate and interesting and kept me engaged with every chapter. and not to mention romance and angst is TOP TIER. I just finished the 4th book of tgcf today and it was DEVASTATING and I enjoyed every moment of me sobbing in my English class lmao. Mdzs and tgcf are easily my two favorite book series and I can’t wait to start reading svsss!
I literally just finished MDZS (and thus all 3 of the series) last night, this couldn't have been better timed. Also bless the nod to 2HA at the end, I'm still emotionally compromised by that series (in all kinds of ways). Thousand Autumns is probably next on my list. Just started book 5 of MDZS and it does get GOOD but it's a huge tonal shift from SVSSS. Way more angst and not nearly as much crack. I was *so lost* at the beginning of MDZS but by book 2 I was super invested. Shen Jiu is the saddest poor little meow meow.

Turns out that tumblr is a huge MDZS fan and I saw them talk about it quite a lot. From a drama screenshot I was like "lemme look into this fandom" and did research on the different forms. April 21st, hadn't slept at all and it being noon I decided to start with the donghua- instead of sleeping -because the article I was reading mentions that the cdrama wasn't done yet and I didn't want to be in pain (the article was from when the cdrama started airing) and I like pretty animation. I binged that shit in two days (it was my b-day the 22nd so I couldn't give it the attention I wanted to). I immediately looked into the english translation for the novel and I eagerly await it's full release by this time next year so I can buy all 5 novels at once and binge the shit out of them. I just finished the manhua a few hours ago and am crying because it's not just the translation that's not done but the official release still has two more arcs to get through x-x. Now I'm just here suffering and I've been tempted to look at mxtx's other work but I'm also scared- this video just confirmed that fear X'D I'm not ready to be obsessed with another thing. I have so many fanfictions open that I stopped reading to randomly find this video.

Yessss, me too started with mdzs and read all of mxtx novels, then stumbled upon legendary master wife and white cat shizun 😙. Then after I met priests novels I knew this was it for me, I was never gonna get out of the deep pit of Chinese danmei. Have read more than 60 and ongoing.
Same here..started in November 2021 and fell off the danmei cliff. I'm dying to get official English translations copies just to own it. I envy people who can read the original Chinese work while I have to wait for translation like a fiend.
SVSSS is my favorite work. If it was told from pretty much any other perspective it would be the most heartbreaking tragedy, but Shen Yuan just makes it perfect crack. Best choice of a POV character ever.

This fandom has literally taken over my life. It started with TGCF, then MDZS, and now SVSSS. I've read the novels (that have been released so far), seen the animations, and now the manwas and fanfiction.... Mxtx has completely changed my life. And the way Coly just sums up my feelings for this fandom in this video just shows how far gone I am into this fandom. TGCF is the purest love, MDZS is mostly angst, and SVSSS is so full of misunderstandings and miscommunication like JUST CONFESS ALREADY 😩😩. but this fandom is indeed a masterpiece

Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu being brothers. Binghe's complexity. Qingge's painful one-sided crush. Tianlang-Jun and Su Xiyan's tragedy. Shen Jiu and Qingyuan's tragedy. BingShenLiu. Bing-ge vs Bing-mei. MoShang. Sha Hualing, Liu Mingyan and Ning Yingying. All the many misunderstandings about Shen Jiu and what really happened in the Qiu mansion. Endless Abyss. Zhuzhi-lang
I just recently joined the mxtx fandom, starting with tgcf because I kept seeing them being fruity in my fyp. I WAS GREETED WITH ROMANCE THAT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE and angst ofc, like wow. then I read the whole novel in like 4 days, completely abandoning my whole school works. then here I am, watching mdzs donghua and falling in love again. I'm also going to read the other novels, I love it here, the fandom is very nice and welcoming
I recomend 2ha by meatbun! But you have to read tws first
Other then that priest and other metbuns novels are also great
Welcome to the fandom! Now for more school work to abandon, here are my recommendations :
- 2ha or The Husky and his White cat Shizun (aka the most angsty stuff you'll find out there)
- Sha Po Lang (just amazing story and planning, I love the non fantastical aspect of the book)
- Qiang Jin Jiu (What I like about this book is that it has a lesbian couple, and 2 gay couples! Also, I LOVE THE STORY SO MUCH)
Finally, honorable mention to Faraway Wanderers of which I have heard a lot of good things but since I haven't read it yet, you will be the judge of that.

Some just ignore them and don't even care at all. There are lots of bashing along with apologists fanfics in the Chinese fandom, like, a lot. And they're just Nie/Lan >< Jin/Jiang, WangXian >< Jin/Jiang

I only read SVSSS so far(the "binghe, qingqiu and qingge should all date each other" is a huge mood), but I'm at the beginning of MDZS right now :) So far it's not as good as I expected, but it probably gets better later (I think it's 2ha's fault actually, it was a masterpiece so my standards got very high).

Among all mxtx's works, I knew tgcf first and loved the concept, then i found out about mdzs and svsss. I was like "yooo these have so many chapters i think I'm gonna read the one with the least chapters!!" So I went ahead and read svsss first. The outcome? I absolutely can't get over it I'm in love with that universe and it's world building 😭😭😭 currently waiting for season 2💀🙏
I think this is the first fandom I have felt overwhelmed with since Star Wars extended Universe (there's a lot of content prior to prequel trilogy) to where it causes me to just freeze up and go, "where, how do i begin?"

When I tag surf on ao3 (picking a general tag, not caring about the fandom because the most popular fandoms to write about I know anyway) I saw MDZS ALL THE TIME, and I was like "What is with this random fandom I see pop up SO OFTEN that looks like it's in Chinese?" (I speak and read quite a bit of Japanese but it looked off so I knew it was Chinese, especially because of the accents on the English writings of names) And I decided, after seeing a random tumblr meme post on YT (It was a Jeaney Collects
video) to surf that tumblr who posted it because I thought it was so funny. Turns out that tumblr is a huge MDZS fan and I saw them talk about it quite a lot. From a drama screenshot I was like "lemme look into this fandom" and did research on the different forms.
April 21st, hadn't slept at all and it being noon I decided to start with the donghua- instead of sleeping -because the article I was reading mentions that the cdrama wasn't done yet and I didn't want to be in pain (the article was from when the cdrama started airing) and I like pretty animation. I binged that shit in two days (it was my b-day the 22nd so I couldn't give it the attention I wanted to).
I immediately looked into the english translation for the novel and I eagerly await it's full release by this time next year so I can buy all 5 novels at once and binge the shit out of them. I just finished the manhua a few hours ago and am crying because it's not just the translation that's not done but the official release still has two more arcs to get through x-x. Now I'm just here suffering and I've been tempted to look at mxtx's other work but I'm also scared- this video just confirmed that fear X'D I'm not ready to be obsessed with another thing.
I have so many fanfictions open that I stopped reading to randomly find this video.
