    The inline Phillips is why I got the Victorinox explorer. I tend to have a saw and Hatchett, when I am outdoors, so the Explorer is my preferred Victorinox. It has the corkscrew for the fire starter stuff. The magnifying glass is amazing to work on electronics or to see small writing.

      I should have clarified that the Huntsman didn’t come with the needle but with the spot for the needle. I added the needle. The Compact is the only one I know of these days that actually comes with the needle. Others used to and still have the spot for the needle, but it doesn’t come with it as often.

    The title of your video struck mixed feelings with me.
    I am a Victorinox SAK fan & collector, my first knife was
    the Huntsman way back in 1973. The Huntsman has evolved
    over the years a bit, but is mostly the same. I have a version
    of the knife from the late 1940’s before it was named the
    Huntsman back then they used nickel silver liners, a different
    awl similar to the soldiers knife from that period, and the
    scales were pinned on so it is quite a bit heavier. The mixed
    feeling come from the fact that you ask if it is the best SAK
    in 2023 which if true makes me a little sad that more progress
    has not been made. I will always like the Huntsman and hope
    Victorinox continues to carry it in there line. I also wish they
    would continue to improve and evolve going forward.

    • @PostFamilyPilgrimage
      @PostFamilyPilgrimage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry if the thumbnail threw you. The Huntsman has always been my one of my personal favorites… but I know a lot of folks like different Swiss Army knives for different reasons. I’ll be doing a follow up soon but I have found myself recently carrying the Swiss Champ even more!

      @@PostFamilyPilgrimage Don’t get me wrong I am also a big fan of the Huntsman
      the four layer knives are a great size. I am just a bit frustrated with Victorinox for not
      continuing to innovate. I like the Farmer X, it’s a heavier duty four layer but is not really
      an innovative design. Part of the problem is Victorinox doesn’t have any serious competition
      to push them. They make a very good product at a reasonable price.

    • @PostFamilyPilgrimage
      @PostFamilyPilgrimage  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hitchpost5822 totally agree! It’s hard to improve on something so iconic! I have the pioneer and I’m wanting a farmer X I just haven’t picked up one yet… but I agree… would love to see more innovation.

      @@hitchpost5822 Also the Swiss are known in the German speaking world i.e. by their neighbours the Germans and Austrians as being conservative and erm should I say slow thinking, but that's more of a joke based on how slowly they have to speak when they are speaking standard German, because Swiss German is impossible for Germans and Austrians to understand. Also bear in mind that Victorinox is a family business in a village, not some huge factory in a city.

    I have worked in the "woods" for the past 37 years at this point in time, forestry technician by trade. Until recently, I always had a SAK Recruit in my lunch box/cooler for opening cans or cutting up fruit or whatever small project a quick tool was needed. Sadly, I lost it in the woods. if you "truely" work in the woods, you will lose personal items. Hopefully, not the truck keys or cell phone to call a co worker to come pull you out of a mud hole. So, I replaced it with the bigger SAK huntsman. This time it is secured to the cooler with a very small locking d ring attached to the key ring mount on the knife. All i can say, in my experience and opinion, SAK makes the best can opener i have used in the field. The other accessories are good quality too. Now, i do keep a small cheapy Leatherman type multi tool for use in the "field" to use along with my Huntsmen. The pliers on the cheapy knock off Leatherman type tool work ok, but the other accessories are very poor quality and design. Yesterday, I did purchase the Tinker and classic SD ES for my other tool kit and key chain.

    I now own 4 SAK models currently. I have their nail clipper model 580, the compact, the huntsman and the handyman. And as much as Id like for the Handyman to be my favourite edc I find myself grabbing my Huntsman model more than all the other models I currently own. I just find it offers the most proverbial bang for its buck so to speak in terms of its footprint to tools offered ratio of all the models available in my opinion. Its the perfect edc size. I also love the fidget friendly size of the compact as well but I truly feel naked if I dont shove my Huntsman in my pocket before I leave the house.

    I Have both the Huntsman and Handyman. But prefer the handyman for the file and small Plier etc(also have an aplineer).. Huntsman is a fantastic tool but the reason I have a small multitool is due to UK Law, as we are not permitted any knife in publc that is greater than 3inchs and or has a locking blade. My actually EDC for the hills etc/Work is my leatherman wave. So when home and out and about I would miss the file and pliers etc of the Wave+ so upgraded my Huntsman to the Handyman and never looked back...

      @@PostFamilyPilgrimage I like the look of the Evolution S557, it scores above the Super Tinker in that it has an inline Phillips screwdriver. Unfortunately where I live, the UK, I can't EDC a locking blade due to our laws. I had a number of SAKs with scissors, saw or both and wanted to try out more tools, namely the file/metal saw, pliers and inline Phillips, and in the end I just jumped to the Swisschamp to give me all of those plus a few more tools. It's not too cumbersome as it fits nicely in the 5th pocket of my jeans.
