Rickson dedicated his life to jiu jitsu: learning, developing, competing, teaching.
I read Opening Closed Guard, it’s a really interesting book. I can’t wait for the documentary.
You will be waiting,its already 4 yrs after filming was finished.The book was very good however.
The blame culture: In 2019 I was competing as a 56 year old BJJ black belt in a couple of tournaments and after a match I lost I pointed to my much younger and very accomplished coach and said out loud “You’re FIRED!” It was spontaneous, culturally satirical and good for a few laughs. Drysdale’s views on the subject of not taking personal responsibility completely resonate with me.

I agree 👍 he was a much better person and wanted to make it affordable to the lower class, but guys like joe rogan would rather wear a helio shirt.

Bob Wall told me that when he was growing up in the 1950s, judo centers and scholastic wrestling were the two main options in California. After the martial arts movies of the 1960s and '70s, different forms of karate (like TKD and Kenpo) sprung up. Bob told me that he and Chuck Norris went to the Gracie main gym where Rickson dominated Chuck and Royce rolled with and dominated Bob. The Americans were older and not the same level in terms of ground fighting.
Bob also said that he challenged Royce to a no rules fight and knocked him out.
I wasn't there and Bob is no longer here so the legend of that combat will only live on as one man's story. Chuck could tell us if that is true.
In Brazil apparently "professor" just means teacher...
Stopped listening after dude said empathized with Eddie Bravo and some of his conspiracy theories. Eddie is good at sport BJJ but is uneducated and stupid in a lot of ways.

@@808BJJ_Black_Belt LMAO, BJJ can only submit people under very strict rules and if the person you are wrestling is physically weaker then you. Every single pro BJJ fighters has to abuse steroids to stay competitive. BJJ is a joke created by a family of conmen sold to gullible Americans like you. Now don't you have to go "mount" another dude right now?
It’s all about levels. Depends how good each is. Look at rickson vs the Olympic wrestler.
