this is the area of my brain that had a bleed that caused my left side to be paralyzed. it is so interesting how its where motivation and rewards system and moods meet movement and inhibitory functions and so much more. I was still young when it occurred so I think my brains plasticity rebuilt thanks to amazing therapists and participating in post stroke studies, using devices, and custom fitted things to wear that kept my wrist and elbow/ shoulder in correct position. Some things I still have to work on, I still cannot type very fast because of my left hand, or run or skip at all. I miss skipping. Thank you so much for your beautiful explanation of the basal ganglia, and all of the vids you have made to help us understand the brain.
I love how she has shown me that the consistency of the brain is not quite the jelly I had always imagined. When you see those coloured connectome visualisations it seems to be talking about a pattern of movement; when you see the neural tracts inside the brain you get a chance to really understand how form follows function, right back to when that first zygote splits into two…. wondrous, Actually the spinal column was also thrilling. Who knew our neural system was such a luscious collection of tapering tendrils!
UBC Medicine - Educational Media Thank you for your reply. I am studying Language Sciences (specialisation in neuroscience of language) at University College London. I spent the summer studying brain anatomy from various sources, including a coloring book of the brain and some introductory literature to cognitive neuroscience. I really appreciate all of your content related to the brain and the nervous system. Thank you once again!
This was a fascinating video. I have Parkinson’s disease ,and I feel it was telling me I must help the disease by physical activity that I enjoy like dance and gardening.Thankyou
You guys are a blessing to our education system. This is so well made and elegant, I learn more in this video than hours of lecture in spent in Neurophysis class.
Thank you for opening up my understanding. It is so amazing of all the great things our brain can do. It is an amazing spiritual organ that God made. I feel it's the soul of our body. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with the world, you too are amazing.I would recommend students to attend your University, and if they are there, I would recommend they stay and take in all the information until they finish, because I feel that they will be great nurses or Doctors. Thank you so much..
I have researched the Basal Ganglia so many times only to come away with some very shallow explanation. This is by far the best video, lecture, or literature I have found on it and in a very understandable manner. Thank you so much!!!
Dear Dr Krebs, I use this video when I teach medical students about movement disorders, very helpful. And although I saw it a many times it stays interesting.
When getting bored of model trains and Canada, I thought I could just as well learn a little hematology because why not, and here I am, having watched an hour or two of neuroatonomy. TH-cam truly is a marvelous place. Big thanks for these videos!
stopped binge watching nordic noir and changed to these.....much the same content and tone, without the sub-titles! how many seasons, totally hooked ? ;)
This was an awesome video, and very interesting and desirable explanation of the basal ganglia; etc. This was very, very nice! I liked it a lot. Thank You!
I have complete, bilateral necrosis of the putamen. It's hell on earth. I'm in my 30s and have all symptoms of Parkinsonism except tremors, generalized dystonia (crippled my left foot and ankle), extrapytamadal symptoms, extreme depression, exhaustion, insomnia, etc. Etc. This happened due to an anoxic brain injury when I was 30 (6 1/2) years ago. I wouldn't wish this hell on anyone. It's like neuroplastisity gone wrong.
The best thank you so much.... Can you please add the disorders or conditions occurring because of damage to the basal ganglia Will make it more comprehensive..
This makes me so happy that I could cry. You are truly, truly a gifted teacher in every way. Thank you.
You must have a well functioning basal ganglia. Congratulations.
This is the best video I have ever seen on neuroanatomy! Simple, clear and engaging! Many thanks!
ı agree with you brother. so clear and visualized.

Quality neuroanatomy videos! I just love how she casually slices the brain!
rangercarnage I didn’t think it was real at first! Awesome Stuff ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hahaha, Slicing it like a loaf a bread

Within 14 minutes I learned more about the basal ganglia that I could not for hours from the text book. Amazing, thank you so much!
Glad we can help out. Where are you in school?

Brought the depth to the surface in the most simplest form.
I am crying because I learn and understood actually not just fact but me as a person learning from a real neuroscientist.
Well done! Clear and concise. One of best on BG I have seen
