    Central to the training of Marine recruits is the drill instructor (DI). The tough treatment of Marine recruits by DIs is legendary.

      Went back and looked at the calendar...my recruiter took me to down town Houston meps on Monday may 23 at like 4 am. We did 100mph down 59 lol. Then flew to San Diego that night. Got to mcrd in the middle of the night and didn’t sleep till Wednesday night. Welcome to the corps haha

    My dad was a Marine, I'm 17 he died when I was 12 he never really talked about it but I know he was scared. Volunteering to be placed on the front lines takes heart, but it takes a special kind of man to do it and give his life for the sake of a fellow Marine. I hated him for doing it but after a while, looking back I now want to go and serve the country for my dad and for closure. If I die I know I'll see him again. But if I live for him I know he'll look out for me with great pride from heaven.

    One of the first things a new recruit will learn is five of the 146 articles of the UCMJ. They include things like obeying all lawful orders and the general article 134 that pretty much covers anything you do wrong. The Corps felt it was important that civilians learn immediately what you can and will be punished for doing or not doing even before processing at receiving barracks. Seemed fair to me.

      @bryanallen3939 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went through in 2016, we got to blouse our boots after the gas chamber (start of phase 2) but someone in my platoon pointed his rifle into another recruits back to measure the 40" back to chest in formation and we lost that privilege from week 5 until final drill. After final drill we then unbloused our boots and couldn't blouse them until we became marines.

    Interesting. Those red bins at the :50 second mark have been in use for over a half century. Back then there were highly polished metal trashcans with lids at each end of each row. The initial welcome was by Marines dressed in Blue Dress "C" assisted by junior enlisted Marines dressed in the uniform of the day who were permanent staff in receiving barracks. The Marines in blues were all DIs selected for duty in receiving barracks. Contraband was thrown in the cans which included condoms, porn, alcohol (drinking kind) hair care products and shaving items. Amazing what all a recruit will bring with them. One recruit had a button attached to a small bow. He stated his girlfriend had cut it off of her bra and snuck it into his pocket to remind him of her. You would be surprised how much humor a dozen Marines can get out of a button and bow.

      That's great. Do something with your brain. Take care of your body and hopefully you can make a while career out of it if you want it. As much as I loved the Marine Corps Infantry, if I did it again I would have picked some kind of technology based job like you. My body was completely wrecked and I got medially retired shortly after my first re enlistment. Best of luck! Marine Corps still is an incredible organization and I hope you enjoy it.

      Honestly good luck my dude. The first few weeks of boot camp were the hardest on me. Missing my family and getting told the world just shut down and went to shit by chaps. You just gotta keep pushing through even when you think there's no end and you just can't do it. Just keep going forward. Boot camp will soon will become for you and like me you'll hate for liking it so much. It's honestly worth it all in the end on top of the reaper. Trust me you'll understand once you get to the top. I started off as a great recruit but turned out as a shit recruit but one hell of a hell of a Marine. If I can do it so can you
