Just wanna say whatever anyone says about the ovens pepes in Waterbury is still the best in town...weekly ritual at my house and I appreciate brad shouting you guys out ❤
@@DanBlabbers the reputation of Frank Pepe's PIzza is pretty well known which you understandably may not have heard or read about if you're not a pizza nut like me lol, but even taking that away the heart of story here seems to be about much more than just pizza. This is a story about passion, love, respect, family, community and tradition - things that are far to rare and undervalued in America today. Who cares about one bite with an inspirational story like this! 😋😋
That was beautiful. Reminds me of the old Italian neighborhood in Chicago that I grew up in called Bridgeport on the south side. This encapsulates the true Italian American hustle and work ethic, but also the caring and understanding ways of showing people respect with good product that you put out. This was so sweet.
Wow I have never heard of Frank Pepe’s before this, but after seeing how they cook pizza, how well they treat their staff, and how long people work for them, makes me want to try this place today!! You know it’s a good pizza joint when they have employees working over 40 years and still don’t want to retire! Many businesses could learn a thing or 2 from Frank Pepe’s.
Pepi’s is one of the few places I’ve been to that will ruin any other that you go to trying to do the same thing. Been there many times and it is fantastic. I can’t eat pizza anywhere without comparing it to Pepi’s.
Hahahahaha Brad, that pizza making part was soooo fuckin chaotic and hilarious!! Thank you for keepin shit real and not editing out stuff like that to try be perfect. I've watched so many TH-cam shows, documentaries, etc about Frank Pepe's pizza and it's always worth it, it's always wholesome, you can always feel the heart, respect, tradition, etc through how they speak about him and the family and the business. Absolutely a local legend. Thanks for another amazing video 😊
no matter how many pizza videos I watch, I always learn something new about pizza in each video. I've seen lots of pizza videos. I am a lover and indulger of all kinds of food too, but man do I love pizza. I crave pizza almost every single day, which is crazy to think about.
Literally JUST talking about this place not 5 minutes ago, then all of a sudden hop onto YT & ya boy Leone got a whole video on this palace! NIOCE! The clams & bacon pie w/ white sauce *Chef's Kiss* excellent!
Hey there brad, I’m a guy who likes to cook and I forgot that for a while, I’m now starting a new job as a line cook making real good pizza! I was honestly scared to get back into cooking and mostly going back because I needed the money, but recently I found your channel and your love for the craft, the ingredients, and most importantly the people that make the food has really reminded me exactly why I love this thing we call cooking! It just connects us all and I feel so grateful to have that. Thank you Brad.
My partner is a New Haven native & also happens to be a HUGE fan of this channel. this will be like a lil gift when he gets home from work. thank you sm, Brad! 🫶🏻❤️
Haha - I was coming here to post the same thing! 😁😁 I was already close after hearing what a great man and family it was but that was the tipping point! 😊😊
I lived on Wooster just a few doors down from Pepe’s for a few years. This brought back all sorts of love that was somewhere deep inside. Nothing like calling in an order on a cold winter evening, walking down a few mins later, passing the long lines, and walking straight to the back counter to grab my fresh mozz pie!
You got a beautiful thing here Brad and team. I was just in the northeast from the Midwest and this made me regret not finding a frank pepe’s to stop by at. Any time I travel somewhere I’m going to be checking out local legends to see if you made a video with someone in the area of my destination
Pepe's, Sally's, and Modern raised the bar over generations for all apizza in Connecticut. So much so, having a bad pie is a choice because you almost have to go looking for it. CT really is a mecca for great Italian!
I was traveling through from RI to PA and decided to stop at Frank Pepe's because who doesn't like pizza...and let me say hands down this was the best I ever had. That's also considering I went on a pizza tour through NYC, the New Haven style is my personal favorite with Pepe's being king
WOW! What a fantastic story and video you all made! What joy and respect they all have for carrying on the name. And you are so hilarious! Just came across you while diving into the pizza business. Thank you!
Became a fan of Brad's about 6 years ago. Seeing him visit and honor a culinary institution from my childhood gives me all the nostalgia feels! Now do Libby's Bakery!
I'm lucky enough to work in New Haven and live in Fairfield County. This pizza is unlike any other. People will always talk but I feel once they taste it, they will know! That dough is special. I heard one time it's something with our tap water too. May be rumors or not even a thing but I'm not an expert!
@@ctguitarguy8510 I can’t say for all of them but New Haven and Fairfield are the only 2 and Fairfield is pretty close. I feel it had to be that original oven as well!!
Definitely not the tap water, it's about the technique. I'm the dough specialist for a pizza place (One Bite Challenge score: 8.7) and was just up in New York at the festival last month as one of the restaurants selected the to participate in the festival. We are located 1300mi from NYC and we're in the top 25 Dave has reviewed around the world.
We recently moved to New Haven and I was excited to try some of the pizza here. Frank Pepe’s is nice and close to us so we tried it and it is truly great pizza! Our go to spot now.
Hey Brad, thank you for capturing my Silver Saturn in your intro (2:30 mark) before I got ride of it. Loved that hunk of Junk. Hope you enjoyed my favorite street. Wooster street ❤.
I went to the Frank Pepe's in Newton Massachusetts for the first time last night because of this video and it was great! Thank you for letting us know about this amazing place!
One of the few things I miss when I left the CT shoreline for Colorado: New Haven pizza, especially white clam pizza, and all the clam shacks along Rt. 1. Oh, and Louie's Lunch for hamburger fun once in a while. After watching the whole thing, I'm a little surprised the "rivalry" between Pepe's and Sally's Apizza wasn't mentioned.
Any day with a Brad Leone upload is a good day, but when it's about your favorite hometown pizza spot it hits a little different. Thanks for the amazing video brad!
You made that pie in the mighty "Spot", which was actually the original building. Over the years, it became the place where people went that didn't want to wait 90 minutes in line at what is now their main location. Many people swore, me included, that the spot wasn't quite "the same" as Pepe's. That being said, it was better than any other pizza place, except Sally's!
When I was at Pepe's last there were a lot of oblong pizzas coming including ours. Nothing like Brad's, but he aint lying that they're not always perfectly round.
Chris is Turtle from Entourage in looks and has that kind loving personality too haha. Pepe's is the best, live in CT and this is the best pizza, add from fresh garlic to their apizza and you'll thank me. God I love this state
Any idea what the hydration was on that dough? Trying to figure out if its an extra wet dough or if it was a little over proofed that day. Or maybe they build and portion same day, then let it rest in the boxes over night? Just seemed extra relaxed and a little difficult to work.
Sally's and Modern might be great competition, but Frank Pepe's is no doubt first! Definitely crawl all three if your in the Elm City, though, they're all great.
Welcome to the family, Brad. We loved spending the day with you. Thank you for helping us tell our story.
It's refreshing to see a business be human. We need more of that in this world.

in the entire video he doesn't even take a bite of pizza?! whats the point of praising the business so much if he doesn't even eat the pizza??
