    Its funny how things change, we have a Canon 60d and by most reviewers it was considered a prosumer camera at the time of it's release. Where with the M50 it has better specs in just about every category and yet is considered entry level.

    This is an amazing camera for video (non 4K) and especially vlogging. I use this on my TH-cam channel and can def recommend it.

    • @CryptoMushroom

      its biggest weakness is low light. It has a lot of grain under low light conditions. So if you use it for vlogging mostly I think this is a very solid buy. If you want to do more cinematic stuff in more lowlight conditions then maybe it would be better to go for a more expensive camera. But the new Canon EOS R is 2200 and this camera is 700$ lol.

    Great review Carl 👍
    I went for a M50 recently to replace my 70D. I saw it as a cheaper upgrade than the 80D to get 50 frames at 1080p, which i started to wish that my 70D had the more I used it...
    I predominately shoot 1080p since I love shooting at 50 frames, and it’s nice that I have 4K to play about with once in a while.
    Btw I did some rolling shutter tests in FCPX and the horrible jello effect can be completely eliminated! Simply select high or very high on the rolling shutter tick box on the inspector. I was really impressed with the results!
    Plus I love the fact that a camera in this price range has focus peaking. I hated that Canon didn’t provide this on their DSLRs and I’m loving the fact that I now have access to it. This means that the lack of DPAF in 4K doesn’t bother me that much.

    I have the camera and love the size. Use it as a second camera for video. The rolling shutter is so horrible though. I haven't had a need to shoot 4K so that's not an issue for me.

    I think this camera is great. I bought it for my other half and she loved it. I tried out the footage and it is clean through the hdmi output. I mostly do manual rack focusing so I careless about DPAF in 4K.

      GiTxSHuM question
      Should I get canon eos80d or Canon M50

    • @GiTxSHuM
      @GiTxSHuM 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      2KRICHKID Those are very two separate cameras. Do you like holding a dslr or prefer going lite using an M50? Both have the same crop. 80D can use all the lenses without an adapter but M50 uses Mirrorless fit lenses and you need an adapter to put other canon lenses. What is your purpose? Photos Videos Streaming?

    • @2KRICHKID
      @2KRICHKID 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GiTxSHuM this is my first camera I wanna learn both photo and video editing! I was looking at the m50 I keep hearing it’s upgraded to 4K but not really worth getting since the 4K keep getting cropped! Whereas I can get the 80D quality is just as good for video can’t really tell a huge difference between 4K and 1080p. DSLR I know it’s bigger and the mirrorless is smaller! But my goal is to learn both photo and video. I don’t want a camera toooo expensive lol I saw one 8K bucks 4K Bucks I’m on a budget

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the M50 is a fantastic starters camera. It will teach you both stills and video with a modern mirrorless camera. The EVF is much easier for beginners to use than the optical viewfinder on the 80D. Its also similar enough that you will be able to step up to other canon cameras relatively easily and it will feel familiar.
      Carl

    • @GiTxSHuM
      @GiTxSHuM 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2KRICHKID 100% Go for the M50. You can test sample 4K but I still shoot 1080 for short films. Just frame your images right when filming 4K. The camera is really straight forward in the menu system from beginners to experience technical stuff. The images make me feel like I am looking at my 1DX 5D and 6D photos. It is also nice in the hands with weight and ergonomics. The AF is extremely fast in 1080 if vlogging or doing reviews or even a film.

    It's definitely worth it for video, but I guess it depends on what you want to do with that video. I shot a short project at a forest school using my M50, I would normally use a 70d for something like that, but it worked out pretty well. I seemed to spend more than the amount of time I usually do, battling with the exposure, from the sun's apparent changing brightness in the leafy environment. I suspect the max shutter speed of 1/4000 against the 70d's 1/8000 in AV mode was the reason, the 70d handles that kind of situation and environment better. The M50 is a great little camera though.

    • @KittFPV
      @KittFPV 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weren't you shooting with a 180deg shutter anyways? Or were you thinking the 1/4000 vs 1/8000 shutter signified that the 70d had a more sensitive sensor? Just wasn't really sure why someone would be shooting video at 1/4000.

    • @lifetimesofamultiplemediam1003
      @lifetimesofamultiplemediam1003 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah… I just had it in AV priority, and let the camera do the rest. To be honest, I don't much bother with all that 180degree shutter thing, unless maybe I'm doing something really serious.

    • @CryptoMushroom

    Great review and channel. I'm curious how a consumer camcorder like the ax53 would compare to this or even the Sony a6400. I see very few reviews comparing DSLR or mirrorless with camcorders in the lower price brackets. I'm really only interested in 4K video performance. Is the budget priced Sony ax53 a possibility for high quality 4K video suitable for stock clip houses like Shutterstock? Thank you

    Did you use the enhanced IS? TBH all the videos don't really look sharp. I've read the enhanced image stabilization does that. From the samples it looks really rather bad.
    The exclusion of the dual pixel autofocus from the 4k was a marketing decision. They could have added it but didn't want to in order to separate from their more expensive cameras. They could fix it with a firmware upgrade.
    Thanks for the video!

    Loved your overlaid music track Carl. But c'mon Canon, the whole point of going mirrorless is to get away from the all too common contrast-based, sloppy AF in movie mode. Surely you can't be nobbling the camera to protect your DSLR range?
    I've always liked Canon's bravery, their ability to subdivide the niche. The A1 astounded a gobsmacked world in the 70s, while at the same time the Pelix (a really futuristic attempt at innovation) had everyone looking the other way.
    But this M5, whatever its cost, won't get you sales in the current CSC market. It's too limited, too late, too niche.

    • @genjii931
      @genjii931 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Canon may have been brave back in the film days, but they haven't shown any bravery in the digital realm since the 5D Mark II, and I'm convinced it was an accident. We'll see what their upcoming 'real' mirrorless lineup brings.

    Hi, and thx for making this video as I found it very interesting and helpful. Just wondering why you called the 18-150 mm lens the weakest of the bunch as I was considering it as an all-purpose lens to stay on the camera probably most of the time. Would really be great to have that overall, seemingly perfect range. I read that the mount is plastic but just wondering what else would make it weaker in your mind. Thx in advance!

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its still a good lens, but its the slowest apertures of the range. When you are making a super zoom like that to cover such a wide focal length range, you have to make compromises optically. So they will never be as good as some other lenses.
      A great choice for travel & convenience though

    I have the m50 for about 3 weeks especially for stills photos and I'm very very disappointed because I can't get the 100% sharpness photos.
    It looks sharp until... I compare it to another camera.
    I tried a few lenses and also the kit lens 15-45 and the eyes couldn't be sharp 100% like it should be.
    I also saw hundreds of photos that were taken by the M50 and I couldn't see even one photo that the eyes are super sharp.

    Tip for using 4K - use manual focus on a tripod. Otherwise, use 1080p. This camera is awesome for photos, I donno why every review ever seems to only focus on the video recording aspect of this camera. For action videos, get a GoPro. Seriously.

    Shame you focus on the negatives - one minute the camera is for amateurs with next minute you are talking about weddings and 4k with expensive video. When will testers get that the cheap cameras are used as a step up from the mobile phones to take stills of the kids and family.

      @@LashaunEllis :) Hahah I cant help being sarcastic even though some say it's the lowest form of wit. I got the cannon M50 to travel round with and its quality.... just got to make adjustments here and there... sick of hearing vloggers talk about the crop on the 4k... just don't shoot in 4k! simple
