    In St. Louis the union bricklayers had to learn seven different brick patterns in order to complete their apprenticeship to become journeyman.

    Such a gorgeous place. The architecture is mind blowing and it breaks my heart to see such a place in the condition it is in. Hoping and praying that it can be saved and preserved for future generation. 😀

    Forced integration was wrong. It's just as bad as forced segregation.

    Class of '76. It was the pride of a proud neighborhood. Now the neighborhood has no pride, gone ghetto and in deep decline. Thanks to forced integration mentioned in this video. It wasn't all roses as implied here.

      Fatima Alatwani That's a by gone era. It's so sad that young people like yourself can't enjoy it the way it was when the streets were actual a place to gather and not to beware.

      Fatima Alatwani It's unfortunate that happens before people even get to know you. Show people around you that your are a good person and you'll see that prejudice disappear with them.

      👁👁I do not call integration in this instance, of the disintegration of this High school. Cleveland, Soledan , SouthwesternHigh Schools had the same fervor. I do not like how subliminally that they are blaming this on integration. They were Dutch, how in their immigration status could rule that other people could not come in their own USA St. Louis town. And the Black folk built the street brick by brick. How dare these immigrants. You leave your country and want to exclude the very people. That is born and raised in this Country of USA. And their gown St. zlouis, MO. Black Folk produced their blood, sweat and tears, in this city, in which they enjoyed, and their fun times.😤

    I went to Cleveland high from 82 to 84. Freshman and sophomore years. Absolutely loved this school. ❤ we hated when they turned it onto a military prep school and we tried to fight it but to no prevail. The female basketball team won the state championship that year too. Tears fall when I see it now.

    i think it should be saved. national registry of historic places, and there and there are many other organizations that could at least keep her safe from the wrecking ball. We have a grand hotel up here. built circa 1920. It closed in the 70s and was abandoned. in the early 90s, The city council chose to demolish it. people banded together to save it. they sued the city and got it protected. A development company took it from there. they gutted it to the floors and remade everything. its an absolute gem and is now housing for the elderly. take heed! don't lose a piece of your history! you'll only have it once

    I once had something of a pseudo-grandfather, he was actually the father of my mother's long term boyfriend, though he was very similar to my own maternal grandfather in a lot of ways, who was a Cleveland alumnus. He would often sing a song whose lyrics started like this. I wonder if anyone else can confirm the genuineness:
    Oh this town has five great high schools
    And these high schools too are fine
    But one of these great high schools
    Is pointed out as mine
    It's the Grover Cleveland High School
    It's the one that is the best
    It represents the dear ole south
    The southeast and southwest

    The building identified as Central High School I believe was Yeatman High School. The first Central was located downtown, the second at Grand and Bell. It was demolished in the horrific tornado of September, 1927, and the Central faculty and student body relocated to Yeatmen, where they had been two years while Central when being renovated and updated. Eventually, Yeatman was renamed Central. All the St. Louis public high schools were exemplary and known nationwide for their excellence and innovative and the theory of high school as a democracy resting on student responsibility.

    I was born in Muskogee Ok. I went to Irving Elementary school, Alice Robertson Junior High, for 10th grade I went to "Old" Central High, and for 11th and 12th grades I went to the new Muskogee High School. My Dad, Ken Ritz, had graduated from "Old" Central. That School disappeared before I finished the 11th grade. It was one building 4 stories tall and the stairs were killers. The new school was like 6 buildings with only one building being 2 stories. I graduated in 1968. My dad graduated in the 40s after he got out of the air force. Irving is now a new building and AR bit the dust last year; a replacement will be built someplace else. One of my sons went to the new Irving. These schools are all gone now except the new high school. I still have the memories.

      @chicagonorthcoast ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lavenderhearts101 , I wish I could find something good to say about Coach Cliffe, but sadly cannot. My most admired teachers and counselors there were Harry Justice, Weise, Mildred Kovacovich, Roland, and Barbara Cordes.

      @Laura Louzader, Mildred Kovacavich was my favorite teacher. I think I had Weiss for Latin and Roland for History? Liked them both. The other two you mentioned I know their names but I really didn’t remember them.
      Mrs. Fisher was my guidance counselor and I really liked her.

      @MsOctoninja 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It had nothing to do with demographics. Here is a fantastic article about the demise of the St. Louis school system, which, at one point was a shining example of public schools for the nation. Bad politics from both parties and from state and local governments killed St. Louis City schools. Here is a great (but lengthy) article on the demise of the school. www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/news/answer-sheet/wp/2017/09/07/the-sad-story-of-public-education-in-st-louis/%3foutputType=amp
