- John F. Kennedy High School, located in Taylor, Michigan, has a rich and significant history that has contributed to the development of the local community and the education of countless students.
The high school was established in 1965, named in honor of the 35th President of the United States,
John F. Kennedy, who had just been assassinated two years prior in 1963. The school was built to accommodate the growing population of the metropolitan Detroit community of Taylor and was part of a larger effort to expand educational opportunities for that same community.
Throughout the years, John F. Kennedy High School has experienced significant growth and development. The school has consistently expanded its academic programs, extracurricular activities, and facilities to meet the changing needs of its student body. Notably, the school has maintained a strong focus on academic excellence, community involvement, and the holistic development of its students.
John F. Kennedy High School has been the recipient of various awards and recognition for its academic, athletic, and community service initiatives. The school has also produced notable alumni who have made significant contributions to various fields, further enhancing its reputation and impact. One of the most notable Kennedy High alumni, was 1995 World Series Champion and stand out all star pitcher, Steve Avery. Avery had a very successful career in Major League Baseball, most of his career spent with the Atlanta Braves. Still today, he is considered to be one of the greatest pitchers of all times. And as I'm sure you will see in the video his name, number, and records were still hanging proudly in the gym. Steve Avery graduated from Kennedy in 1988. Another notable alumni of JFK was one time musician and former hype man for Kid Rock, Joe C. whose untimely death in 2000 helped solidify his legacy. Joe C. graduated from Kennedy in 1993.
Unfortunately, the school district approved the closure of JFK high school in 2017 citing declining student enrollment, rising maintenance costs, and the school was not compliant with the American disability act. The school permanently closed in 2018 and merged with nearby Truman High School to become the newly formed Taylor High School.
The history of John F. Kennedy High School in Taylor, Michigan, reflects its enduring commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and the overall wellbeing of its students. The school's journey from its initial inception to its final day is a standing testament to its resilience, adaptability, and unwavering dedication to its mission. John
F. Kennedy High School was finally demolished in November of 2023 and is now just a memory, but its history and accolades will remain an integral part of its identity and legacy for years to come.
And that is going to bring us to the end of the abandoned JFK high school video. It was a real adrenaline rush exploring this massive high school in the middle of a huge alumni party, all while alarms are going off the whole time, so hopefully you all enjoyed watching it! I'm surprised that they didn't clean out the desks and lockers the lockers could have been sold
Yup, unbelievably wasteful.
Usually they sell a lot of that stuff. Not sure why they didn't with this location.
What about the books 📚 ? I know a lot of them are out dated but some of us go to the library to find more simpler textbooks etc 📚
Whoa dude, your pretty brazin. Glad you weren't caught. Thanks for a 1 last look inside of my old High School. Class of 98. Yep gym looked pretty bare but same as I remembered it from 94-98. I'm surprised they left the water in the pool. Bet it collected of mosquitoes. That water didn't look too clean. Had gym class & had pool swimming class. Atleast when I swim in it 97 or 98 it was alot cleaner water. 😀 my locker although I don't remember what number it was on that second side over there by where you were at one point. Cause I remember my last yr it was, when come in from main entry, I'd go right & then left, then I believe mine was somewhere in that middle set you were near after the door to that room. Best I can remember from 98 anyway. Anyway it was cool getting to see it one last time. There supposed to be building a whole new Taylor High school in its place one of these days. We'll see how that one turns out. I often wonder if they gave that board to Steve Avery.
I have joined one of the fb pages for Taylor,mi. According to some of them, they could of saved JFK. The pool needed to be fixed, also the boilers needed to be fixed and it was shared with Brake Jr. High school. They could of built handicap ramps for the disabled and maybe elevators. The former mayor of Taylor should never had changed Truman to Taylor high. And never had changed the fighting song and the colors. He should have left it alone,to keep as is. Because it looks like crap.
I went to Kennedy High School from 2003-2007, but they let me stay an extra couple of years up until June of 2009 because I was held back in preschool once. :)
Thanks for watching our video!
Class of 98 JFK.
The alarm gives me a eerie vibe and why is it so loud
alarms typically this loud are deterrents, they aren't usually linked to direct police lines or anything
Oh they for sure responded to them the first time I set them off.
@@abandonedcentral hey that's near by me
Love the videos man 🤞
This for the support my dude!
So very cool!!!!!❤❤❤❤
Spooky and haunted! 🧟
Possibly? Its been completely demolished now.
You are a Brave guy i enjoy your videos it does help me with my anxiety big time Thank you
Thanks for watching our videos! Glad you enjoy them!
Class of 2015 here. Super cool to get a final glimpse into the school, thanks for this
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
What is going on with the alarm power on yet it's going to be tore down this is very strange
Not very strange! Obviously, they want to keep the vandals, out!
They gotta make sure nobody breaks in and steals anything before they tear it down, I guess.
@@AliceBowie hopefully they cleaned it out before they tore it down a.c said they did it back in November of last year 😔
@robertmailhos8159 On the video that was in the abandoned highschool in Bridgeport they said a lot of places have weird regulations that say the school district can't donate or sell the books and equipment. I don't know why, but there's a lot of dumb rules so I can believe it.
@@AliceBowie that is a strange thing to say that those books and everything else can not be sold.or donated 😡😡
This dude a legend would love to meet him
Greatly appreciated my dude! Thank you for the support.
My daughter went there. She finished her sophomore year there, and had to go somewhere else. Ms. Rush was my daughter's counselor. And yes, the cops WILL show up.
3:26 A random bathroom stall huh? Lol.
Well done
Dang man I've got half a dozen friends it went to that high School LOL most of them live in Taylor
Nice! Make sure to send them this video so they can check it out!
Wait, did I read that right? Did that bin actually say acid?!
This place gives me the creepy vibe, maybe cause it was so open and you didn't film anyone lol.
Thanks for sharing how did the alarm go off
They have motion sensors throughout the building.
Oh dear, well thank you for sharing this
Great explore.
Do you know what was with the sand in the pool area?
No clue about the sand tbh. Thanks for watching!
My theory is they used a sand filtration system.
@@HardDriveGuruOfficial That would make sense. I've never worked with pools before, I have heard of sand being used as a filter.
😂😂 I feel you, 15:39 but you did good.
Those motion sensor lights are the worst lol.
Dude - great explore, as usual. Love the channel. You've got balls of steel. If I heard those alarms, my butt would be trucking it back to my car as fast as possible. I can see why the school is free from vandals and scrappers. Keep up the great work!
Destiny (by Follett) is an online library companion for schools, basically a digital version of the school library.
That's funny how you said you joined the *alumni,* the *alumni* were probably looking at you going who the f*** are you? I don't remember you being a student. Lol. Nice explore though.
Haha this was the only way to get it done. Last time I tried and set off the alarms the police responded.
There were so many alumni there, he would have no problems showing up. We had the Class of 66-19 show up.
Not everyone in every class knows eachother, keep in mind there were like 60+ classes over the history of the school. Now, a lot of the same people do attend these sorts of events so a lot do know even through the classes but it would be easy to go unnoticed I think especially for an event like this where it’s a final goodbye so plenty of people who wouldn’t usually attend would go.
Same old thing, waste, waste, waste. So many things could be reused. Aren’t our leaders great!?
3:34 that red panel is a vintage fire alarm control panel that is probably original to the building (mid 60s?) and most likely is all relay controled,no computers needed, and if powered most likely still works
i think file cabinets can be quite useful
this is a shame that building could have served as housing
🙂
I wonder if the fire alarm system was salvaged before the building was demolished, since the hardware was original to the building (the control panel is at 3:34) I know a guy from the rubber city who salvages pre-1975 fire alarm systems from building slated for demolition (he's active on TH-cam under the channel Old School Fire Alarms).
That alarm is so annoying
It reunited your filming
Alarm was very annoying lol! Thanks for watching.
@@abandonedcentralno problem
The alarms are too much for me 😕
Nice videos are looking adventurous
Glad you like them!
@@abandonedcentralI know
This is one of them ones they secured till the day of its death my man had to wait almost 5 years to hit it lol
Haha for real thats how it goes sometimes! Thanks for watching our video!
I wouldn’t want to even swim in that swampy green water. There’s probably algae really thriving in there.
Has this place been demolished?
Yes
Cant believe they couldnt save that massive building
My old high school.
What about all those personal records like about students health info etc
The alarm is eerie for spooky you're brave for going inside the building i couldn't go inside the building
Did the alarm immediately go off as soon as you opened the door?
Yea pretty much a few seconds after.
@@abandonedcentral Imagine that the police came right as you were exploring that school. Do you think they would've arrested you for trespassing on the property?
I’ve been in here during the demolition and there weren’t any alarms going off
Power is cut off once demolition begins.
I’ll be surprised if you don’t get arrested for even being inside of that building. I would have thought otherwise after hearing the alarms going off.
The building is now demolished and gone.
The alarm at 14:00 sounds like a cpi concord alarm system
That was my dad's HS, he was class of 1990 or 1991
It's kinda embarrassing for a high school to have a cafetorium. Interesting explore nevertheless
I live right down the street from jfk, they tore it down sadly
Wonder if all the staff transfered or if people lost jobs
You have a nice voice if you are making a tour guide
Thank you so much!
@@abandonedcentral You're welcome
@@abandonedcentralI subscribe your channel! because you make mysterious or horror adventures for abandoned places you didn't recognize from the past
All that confidential stuff left for whoever wants it.
There are so many wise people who have said wise things could have been quoted, but they picked "You can't live your life according to maybes" .. I'm not sure what that even means. Cringe
9:33 Destiny is what a lot of schools use to manage books and other media. like who checks it out and stufff
Hahaha lol I hope you make it out safe. 🤣🤣
They should rebuild the school incase Robert f somehow wins in 2024
Call it Robert f 75th president of united state private high school
Looks like a lot of salvage stuff…money on the hood!!!
I was their that day fkr the gathering. I remember people walking around but don't remember the alarms going off... anyways, they let us into the school a month or so later to take stuff, and the people standing guard didn't give a shit and a few of us walked around taking pictures.
