DJI Neo Range Test

  • In this video I am performing a range test of the DJI Neo. The DJI Neo uses the 04 transmission system when used with one of the compatible controllers it has a range of 10 km in ideal conditions. When flying with it connected to your phone only it is using Wi-Fi and the range will be limited. The main limiting factor for range with the DJI Neo will be the battery but as demonstrated in this video you can still achieve a reasonable distance. How far can the DJI Neo fly is a common question I have been asked on my channel.

    Nice to see someone do a range test. Definitely need to do again with clear line of site. As you mentioned,, trees are really bad for signal strength. Climbing to altitude uses a lot of battery so having a clear line of site may not require you to climb so high for a good signal.

    I've never owned a drone before, but this would definitely be a fun to use drone for quick content creation. DJI are knocking it out the park over and over. Amazing.

      I'm not sure it has any AI obstacle avoidance (I've seen plenty of crashes). But it does seem to follow the exact path of whoever it is following...so for follow me videos from behind, it will likely always be good as long as the person isn't pushing through branches or whatever else

      AFAIK, this is the first max range test with RC on YT.
      I have mini 3 pro and RC1, and am thinking about buying RC2 for my new Neo.
      I am not a pro. I bought mini3 Pro because it is tiny and easy to fly.
      Neo will replace my mini 3 pro for sure. I tested Neo with an app and it didn't fly that far, 40-50 m max, maybe. So I might get RC2 to use exclusively with my new Neo. I j😁need to fly around 200 - 300 m. max Just in case when I am on vacation, somewhere new.

I did not use a drone before, but I know about it and saw it in the local shops a long time ago. after getting the combo(in 3-4 days) , I have to practice it on the sea beach of Vancouver or in the central park.

    GREAT video. It’s nice to see how far the Neo can fly. Of course due to battery restraints, it can only go so far. I’m so glad I ordered one, I’m in the States, so hopefully get mine by Oct 10 ish.
    I’m ok with the video quality of the Neo, I think it looks pretty good. Not Air 3 or Mini 3 Pro (my other 2 drones) quality, but pretty damned good for what it is and the price. Also I like the convenience of throwing it and the extra batteries in a backpack with my RC2, and my backpack will still have plenty of room.
    P.S.- I hate you. I was wondering what camera you were using to film yourself, and it’s the Osmo Pocket 3. I thought the image quality looked great ! And now you’re gonna cost me more money !

    Hi Shawn, I am in Ontario too and I did a range test recently and people are telling me that Canadians cannot fly beyond visual line of sight. I noticed in your video you said that we can when done safely. Do you have a source for that? Everything I find is telling me the opposite.

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  วันที่ผ่านมา

      There’s no wording exactly that says you can. But the Canadian government looks at the sub 250 g drones differently. We don’t have to follow the same rules as drones above 250 g. The regulations just state that you must fly in in a safe manner and not put people or aircraft at risk kind of thing. So that means we don’t have to follow the traditional rules which means indeed beyond visual line of sight and higher than 120 m as long as you do it safe safely and not put anybody at risk. Definitely the larger drones must remain in visual line of sight.

If you have any questions definitely hit him up He’s very knowledgeable about all the regulations here in Canada.

    I am watching this video on my phone. TH-cam has set the quality at 360p. Granted, I don't have the best phone nor am i worried about it. I have no idea what the resolution of an iPhone 15 is, nor will I ever own one. I do have an HD TV, and the picture is good enough for me.
    My point is that it seems so many people are hung up on these high resolution cameras yet I'll bet most people aren't watching the videos on a 4K or above TV.
    I don't understand why most TH-camrs don't capture in 1080p. I'm sure if you look at your analytics, a large percentage are watching on phones. I think the Neo would look better in a lower resolution and actually doing some post. I forget what channel i was watching, but the presenter actually did some quick and dirty fixes to the video and they really popped in comparison to the unedited videos. Another presenter did some indoor real estate flights to show how "bad" the quality was. Practically every comment was how great they looked.
    I think I've seen many bad videos with awesome image quality and some awesome videos with lesser image quality.
    And now there is this big 8K hype. I'm sure it will be awesome on my 360p TH-cam app on my phone.

    "What image stabilization technologies does DJI Neo support?
    It supports RockSteady and HorizonBalancing.
    When controlling Neo with your palm, with the DJI Fly app or with select accessories, only HorizonBalancing is supported and cannot be turned off.
    For immersive flight, you can choose to enable RockSteady, HorizonBalancing, or turn off stabilization.

      Usually for range test your best to do it in normal mode although you could fly faster and sport mode, it drains the battery a lot quicker, which is already the limiting factor. When I can find a location with a more open area that I can fly lower with no obstacles I might try again to see what the differences and if I can get further with the battery.

    1:20 needless caveat.
    Technically under the same insane laws, flying ANY FPV drone what so ever with VR goggles (obviously including EVERY flight with an Avata) are also illegal. Because VR / Camera feed does not count as "visual line of sight".
    Frankly, dont even mention those laws, because they contradict everything.

    Shawn, not related , I don’t think…. But how do you use the DJI Mic2 transmitter with the Neo and RC 2 controller??

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I just do an independent voice recording directly onto the mic 2. And then just sync it while editing.

    what tripod are you using for that osmo pocket 3?

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s actually the extension pole from DJI. I have a tripod attached to the bottom and a magnetic mount. Makes for a minimal and portable tripod solution.

    in what we are more interested is that how stable is the signal and live video when flying between trees and buildings or inside? Many of us dont want to fly 1 km away, just 1-2-300 meters, but the signal should be perfect in this range. Is it so?

  • @wesleyp3579

    At 5:27 and 5:50 did you mean to say $249? Or did you intentionally say the U.S. price? Either way, I enjoyed the video 👍🏻 I’m surprised you didn’t encounter any wind warnings. I often do when flying my Mini (I’m in Canada too)

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Indeed, that is US price I tend to quote US prices in my videos cause that’s primarily the audience. I should start to “both Canada and US. For my Canadian viewers

    What kind of tripod thing were you using to hold your Osmo pocket?

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It’s actually the extension pole from DJI for their action cameras I attach a small tripod to the bottom. And I use magnetic adapter to attach the pocket 3. It makes for a wonderful, super portable tripod. Only downfall is it doesn’t work super well on really windy days

    nice vid and test - anyone noticed the number of Satellites locked varies more in this DJI quad than others ? (they come back up after a few secs - doesnt seem to affect flight or anything - jut wonder if more its more sensitive / prone to loosing lock on them (could be more common and I just noticed it now)

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Indeed, I have noticed that as well. In fact, I was flying it yesterday and it lost GPS signal went into atti mode. Then reconnected within about five seconds.

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, it has full return to home functionality with GPS just like other DJI drones. I have a video demonstrating that coming up soon as well.
