I'm from south Mississippi and I got to tell yall this is straight-up Blues with rock and roll on the heavy side if you don't like this type of music or their performance I kind of feel sorry for you
The thing that always made me a fan of Alex Harvey is that he never took himself to seriously.... yet he was always able to put out good music & do it in a way that was good but comical...
Right said, he was something else, a touch of cabaret in r'n'roll,it's funny hearing Scotish accent on this southern tune. Great man with no luck ( his brother was even unluckier, died on stage with STONE THE CROWS,electrocuted). RIP,both of you
Okay, to take my fave Jerry Reed tune and give it a bluesy workout. He had an eye for picking out other songs and re-interpret them in totally different ways. Zal let his Strat do the talkin'!
Sensational indeed...just started listening again to S.A.H.B. just came into my head...(like it does) what a great band,& of course Alex...great timing....thnx. they make it look so easy... which of course it isn`t,,,,ace guitar solo Zal....
holy shit Zal is a guitar god. This band is one of the most underrated ahead of their time bands. Just wow. So many great things come from Scotland musically but this band is the best for sure (or right the hell up there). Each player just dominates their part - watch any clips of them live on stage - they just take names everytime.
Never seen this, thanks for posting! The sooner we get a statue to this man in Glasgow the better. There's no shortage of candidates for those he could replace!
Wow! I still have a couple of Alex records downstairs. I'm floored that they covered one of my fav country songs of all time. They rocked Jerry Reed's 1970 hit. 'Named him after a man of the cloth They called him Amos Moses'
Where do you start. These guys were punk before punk was invented. And they could play. Not only that, Hugh McKenna gave my big bro a lift back in his car when he was hitch-hiking fro one of their gigs! Top band.
Ted, Zal, Alex... This is the best ever. Sorry me, to forget the name of the basist. I always get back to this song. This is the best. Seen the Stones 4 times, Electric LO, Dylan, ....... The Sensational A HB was, is , the greatest band ever
Brilliant Cover of Jerry Reeds song. I love Jerry's Original Version, but when I heard this in the mid 70's I thought it was one of those Rare Covers that is better than the original. Such a Great Alternative Arrangement that really suits the lyrics and story of the song.....Great Riff, Great Bass, Alex sings it with passion, and SAHB Stories is a Great Album. I've never met anyone who know's who The SAHB are, which is pretty sad considering how good they were.....Thanks mm for posting.
Frank Zappa: ""I just want to say there are only two bands in the world worth buying a ticket to: Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention and an English group called the Alex Harvey Band."
I love his work with SAHB, but man...the stuff he did on Nazareth's No Mean City! I was 14 when that album was released and me and my friends were beside ourselves. 3 years later, I was blasting No Mean City in my Olds Cutlas.
Here's a little story. In the mid-Seventies I played football in Finland, of all places, and the players used to have this depressing Finnish folk music played on the coach as we passed endless lakes and forests. After one break for a pee I sneaked a SAHB tape on the machine. You should have seen their faces. I had only five minutes of joy before Suicide Sonata was playing again. Love this band.
Great stuff. I actually have the 6 x 2 hour Official Pop Scope DVDs, and never really noticed this appearance. They appeared on Volume 2 and 4. I must see what the other track was. It is great when you see artists like this on little known shows - Another example was Baker Gurvitz ARmy etc on Supersonic.
The sensational Zal Cleminson - guitar Chris Glen - bass Alex Harvey - lead vocals Hugh McKenna - keys Ted McKenna - drums, percussion Ted and Hugh were cousins. When Hugh left the band, Tommy Eyre took the keys. Ted and Tommy later played together again in Greg Lake's band 1981-83, with lead guitarist Gary Moore, Greg on guitar, and bassist Tris Margetts.
And I got a strong suspicion that it is a film and not a video recording. Studio reminds me the same as OGWT was... Same sessions if not the same day as Boston Tea Party, British Gold, was filmed... Thank you very much Ian.
at 3:12, alex gives the camera an unmistakable sign: zal is about to launch into his amazing guitar solo...and what does the cameraman do? he hones in on the bass! LOL

Alex Harvey what a man , all his music had depth and meaning , knocks most of the others into a cocked hat,
I liked SAHB as a teenager in the 70s and now at 60 I love em.Cant quite believe I had such good taste in music so young!
I had four older brothers who gave me a great education
Champion
I loved this guy. Taken far too soon.

It is truly wonderful that we have good sound recordings of him and so many others who have left the house.
What a great band. They sound better as time goes on.

Just when you think we've unearthed all the available video, another gem is unearthed. Sensational, and a thousand thanks.
One of the truly great live acts of the time. Saw them in a 500 seat theater in Pennsylvania. 6:30 and 9:00 PM shows. 10 BUCKS!
I’m from Pennsylvania and was living in Pittsburgh at the time. Why didn’t you let me know about those shows? No excuses.
Tremendous 🏴👏🏻👏🏻🎤🥁🎸⭐🏴😇

Brilliant. So so creative.
Zal Cleminson's solo is awesome, shame it is truncated. Worth listening to the live version on the UK Tour 76 CD if you can get hold of it.
