Scene is well acted and It is nice to see the lighter side of a character in Pike. BUT PIKE talking about the future is not needed BUT I think it ties in to the boy's future FOR he didn't seem to know the end game of being the chosen one.
"Oh How the phuck is Pike gonna meet a friend way out in space'...Impossible to just meet a long lost friend waaaay out in space. How'd he run into her, through "facebook" ?
How does Pike speak to aliens when he doesn’t have his Translator on him? Does the Minister’s UT take over for both of them in the chamber, like bedside Apple Homepod Mini?
Strange things here is how the scene with the boy on the wall with the fountain looks like the French comic in the first tome, and you know what? It’s just before « the ascension»…also, the ascension with with this horrific connection between the children and a machine, on which depend the world stability, is exactly the same as seen in another French comics: Sillage in which the hero Navis discover that the space fleet who bred her using exactly same neural connections to assure spaceship guidance system, Navis also rebel for same ethic reason, after discover ing how aliens are used as slaves for the fleet guidance device… strange worlds, but not so strange inspiration, huuh?
The plotline of the accident specifically happening in 10 years, and Pike knowing when and where it happens.....is dumb. Just warn Starfleet and abort the flight. He'd save lives that way. 🤨
I don't think he can since the whole incident with the Discovery is classified. Also, I am not sure if he ever learns with exactitude which mission this happens at, only that it happens in around 10 years. I guess he could quit but I think that's how strong his sense of duty is. He could quit but wouldn't get to rescue those cadets.
Exactly! He has plenty of time to change the circumstances that led to his radiation damage. Even if it's as simple as not showing up for work that day. Pike knowing his future date is just going to make him look dumb because now he has time to change it or avoid it altogether. Dumb dumb dumb.
IMO Because of the nature of observing a future event the particulars around the event will change a bit. If Pike isnt there someone else will get hurt bad. If Pike is there most paths will lead to him ending up in the chair, but Pike can influence his fate now. I imagine tho that temporal agents would intervene and "fix" the event if somehow Pike dodges his fate now. What if just because of this, a temporal agent is put on Pike's crew for 10 years.
There will be a clip of the show that gets me thinking "well, at least with this one they are making an effort to be actual Star Trek" and then one of these comes along to remind me that "nope, never mind,...this is just an outgrowth of Not Trek: Duhscovery."
Do you mean, this clip? How is this so different from Kirk's love/sex life on TOS? And how do you have realistic human drama that never touches on romance?
@@danieldickson8591 The element I object to is the canon and logic problems introduced by things like Pike knowing about the baffle plate rupture and preceding that, the rediculous introduction of "time crystals." How many flings did Riker have? There was the Irish chick; the one from the planet run by women; the androgynous alien; the one that got killed by the Crystalline Entity; Ensign Ro when they lost their memories; the hologram chick created by the Binars; the list goes on.
@@OptimusWombat Per my response to Daniel Dickson, posted 9 minutes before your comment,... a character having flings/sexual relations is not the issue.
@@pauld6967 then are are you posting your rant on the video of Pike having sexual relations? @@jimmyisbored3571 I know exactly what a womanizer means putts! And guess what Kirk never forced any women to sleep with him but you all call him a womanizer. Well then of Kirk is a womanizer then Pike is. So GTFU!
Kirk was an aggressive, kind of sexist, womanizer. There was rarely a problem involving a member of the opposite sex that Kirk didn't try to fix without using his penis. Women just really seem to want to hook up with Pike. Can you blame them?
@@danieldickson8591 Wrong. PIKE had this one and one in the first episode with a fellow Starfleet Captain. So get your facts straight and rewatch the show.
I’m amazed at how this series lurches to new lower levels of boring every week. It’s boring, really boring. The cast doesn’t gel, the dialogue is juvenile, the plot make no sense. Why would the guy with the scratched medal and the particle weapon in hand not just shoot that woman the moment he was found out. Instead he does three laps around a hedge maze and then holds a knife to her throat? Then we had Spock earlier saying an object is ‘a kind of neural dampener’, doesn’t sound very precise for good old Spock. There’s more to complain about, but why bother, there’s been no quality control on the dialogue or plot.
To put it simply the simplest answer is "This isn't Star Trek". Not the way I see it and not the way many fans see it. I think what they are trying to do and I understand to a point is get a new generation invested in Star Trek but when you change some of the core qualities that make it what it was then it's lost its uniqueness. Also believe me you are not alone in your opinion. This series is a hard pass for me unless there is a drastic change in direction.
I cant stop looking at Anson's arms....
now that he knows his fate, maybe it will change
to quote a certain little guy
"always in motion the future is"
I think it must be a 23rd Century starship captain thing! ;-)
Ansons still in Hell on Wheels shape

I just noticed her eye movement when talking to Kier. Kier also glances over to the Captain before leaving to his feet. Was it all a set up?

I hope they remake "Left Hand of Darkness" in this iteration of Trek. Or any other LeGuin work.
