Decided to finally get the Absolutes now they are getting reprints. Had the poor quality trades until now. Love that the letter columns are included as that was one thing I missed when I sold my floppies.
I love Steve Dillon’s hatching and crosshatching. He makes it look so clean and uniform. Always keen to hear a story from Omar’s 90’s life. Also, I like hearing Omar say Arseface. It makes me smile to hear an American pronounce it the proper way. 😂 👍
Incredible series. I have this absolute and I'm looking forward to getting the other two. I love my trades, deluxes n omni's and I wasn't going to get dragged into the absolute buying but I couldn't not with this series , it's that good.
I was just missing volume one in absolute format and I picked it up the day it dropped. Such a spectacular story, definitely makes my top 3. Great overview.
Tempted to get this. I already own the series in the standard size hardcovers but it's one of my top 5 favorite series ever and I feel like I should own it in the best format available. Same with Transmetropolitan, which I have in trades. Oh, the pocket book struggle! 😄 Great review as always, Omar!

i don't wanna say i'm not a fan of Ennis. i was definitely a lot more of one when i read his Hellblazer run as it was coming out. but i always kinda thought of him as the cool kid/jock on the vertigo team, and i preferred the nerds like Gaiman or the art students like Milligan, and ofc the brainiac Moore sitting over there w his head in Neitzsche or whatever. ...i don't even wanna TRY to think if a high school analogy for Morrison. maybe the guy who huffs paint before coming to class. anyway, i've sought out lots of other works by the above folks, but never looked for Ennis works outside Vertigo. maybe that was a mistake, i did like the Boys TV series. so now i'm thinking of tracking down the comic. still, of all the Ennis I've read, Preacher is the best. you really have to go all in on the thing tho, it's openly and blatantly out to offend you. i'm pretty sure no matter what your beliefs, something inside that book will piss you off.
Wow, I came up with pretty much the same analogy as you back in the day for Vertigo authors! But in my case, I always loved Ennis and Morrison for being just as you describe them (and Moore, of couse, the absolute GOAT). And though I recognize Gaiman's genius, I always felt a certain disconnection to him, maybe because I'm not from USA/UK, his constant dependence and homage to Shakespeare really puts me off. And then we have Ellis, the other one I love, the futurist sci-fi crazy techno teen.
Ennis is my favorite writer, definitely check out the boys. It’s gory, funny, raunchy and way out of pocket at times and that’s why I love it. Also I’ll mention it whenever I can, Darick Robertson is amazing, I only know his work on Transmetropolitan and the boys but I’d love to check out his other stuff like happy or spacebastards.
@@brunom2557 "Gaiman's genius, I always felt a certain disconnection to him," Gaiman tends to write from his brain and sometimes emotional resonance is problematic for him, plus he has a certain style of narration that has the same feel to it. for example, see Mr Punch. which always seemed to me to be a bit detached from the actual emotional intention of the story. for ME his best work is later Sandman and a more obscure GN he did with McKean called Signal:Noise. they are a bit more emotionally grounded, you might connect with them a bit more.

Been reading this book at the moment. I think Cassidy and Jessy resonates with those who like them because they felt incredibly _alive_. They fuck, they curse, they fight dirty, but they are also incredibly sincere and love living the heck of their lives. I don’t know if Garth Ennis ever read Nietzsche, but these characters kind of remind me the spirit of Dionysius that Nietzsche preaches.

I've only read the first 10 issues and already loved it. Hopefully I can have this in this absolute format cos it's really beautiful looking. Just don't let your mom think that it's a religious book or something haha
Haha that sounds so accurate. Ive hopped into _The Boys_ and im about halfway through, but its so blatant between Garth going on about how hes not a fan of superheroes and how much it goes into whats basically a romeo and julliet hidden relationship with smatters of sitcom "gulp!" *Seinfeld bass noises* goofy misunderstandings that its just a romance story with window dressing of political corruption and superheroes to help sell the story going on
I doubt this is even relevant to the topic at hand, but the TV series is all the experience I have with this title and try as I might. I just couldn't get into it. Like the show the Expanse, everyone told me to watch that series, and to me, it royally sucked. I tried watching from the beginning, then the middle figuring it would get better, then from the last season. It never got better, ever just like preacher.
One of the best things about Preacher, to me, is the Fabry covers. His art work is SO good.
My wallet is about to take an absolute beating.
