Will be putting an auto locker in my surf over the next couple days, glad I found your video. Very informative, thankyou for the upload!! Will be very useful
I may have missed it in your video but do you have to worry about pinion lashing or tolerances when putting it back or does it just bolt back together?
I don’t understand how an ARB locker can be installed in the same fashion, totally different structure. ARB’s have their own case so you ditch the stock case and rebolt the ring gear to the new ARB case and have to re-setup shims, or am I wrong?
Yea exactly, just skip all the steps where I install the Spartan into the factory case. You may need to reset up shims on the carrier bearings but hopefully not, pinion shims will stay the same. It’s a bit easier (and probably more of what I was thinking when I said that) with the rear diffs where they have the backlash adjustment screws instead of shims
@@ryanegan4870 I don’t think it’s that deceptive or difficult. If you’re comfortable enough to do this much, putting a new carrier in isn’t that much more. Setting up backlash on gears is pretty easy. Probably should of elaborated more in the vidya but I’m just a dude in his garage trying to help
Hello, how're you buddy? I have just installed one of those on my truck but I couldn't make it unlock, first I tried on the vehicle and both wheels always spin to the same direction, then I pulled apart again and tried on the bench I can't make the "clicking" noise, it is constantly locked. I have measured the gap between gears at the end (.149") and I have removed the washers. Any idea what could be the problem? Thank you
Hmmmm were you trying to get it to unlock while driving or by hand with the tires off the ground? These lockers are pretty tight and require a lot of force to unlock them, I've only been able to unlock/get them to click by hand after theyve had some miles on them and are broken in (and this is with the tires on or a breaker bar to get some leverage). Is there anything bound up or tight fitting in the locker? It should all be in there a little loose with just spring pressure holding it in place. Is it the correct locker for your diff? I've ordered bearing kits from the same company (USA standard) and theyve sent me the wrong parts in the correctly labeled box
@@ParkerWismar Just by hand, with vehicle off the ground. I found strange because the rear locker works like a charm, I can make it click by hand with very little effort. The locker should be the correct one SL T7.5-27, everything fit nicely with the play and the gap it should have but as soon as the pins hit the end of the notches, I simply can't make the teeth overrun each other and push the spring down. I'm starting to thing that, either you're right and the locker hasn't given in yet, or they sent me the wrong springs (too stiff).
I spoke to USA standard and they sent me this video, explaining how it work. There is absolutely no way I can make it unlock that easily th-cam.com/video/Tv4Tba7gUC4/w-d-xo.html
@@147andreluiz That video is showing a grizzly locker which is more refined/forgiving than a spartan. I would drive it and see what it does, worse comes to worse it will just be locked and you know you need to return it
@@ParkerWismar Yea, the annoying is I'm in New Zealand, so to return wont really be possible (it would but I need to pay shipping I will end up losing half of what the locker's worth). This is a video on my locker, that doesn't unlock by hand. th-cam.com/video/UftrICSL3VU/w-d-xo.html And this is another video from USA standard I think, showing how the locker works. th-cam.com/video/FjerLDlnusk/w-d-xo.html Mine is not even close that smooth.
In the rear they can be, I'd recommend spending a bit more for a yukon grizzly locker as they are silent and almost unnoticable. In the front its quiet since it is only rotating when you are off road in 4wd. If you do not have selectable front hubs I would recommend a selectable locker as it will upset your steering on the road and probably clack and bang frequently.
Probably, steering may be a little tough and I could see it wearing out cvs and tires pretty fast. I wouldn’t recommend if I was going to be daily driving on asphalt

Thanks! Have fun with your locker!
So can u unlock it ? And lock it or does it stay locked at all the time ?
Thank you! This is gold!
Auto lock wen one wheel start spin

So with a locker in the front do I have to get out and lock in my hubs in every slippery spot in town driving in snow and dry patches?
If you want to engage 4x4 and you have manual hubs you have to lock the hubs. Its no different if you have a differential locker or not.

That’s pretty deceptive. It’s not simple to set up gears
