    I can see the transplants not having street smarts. I've very aware of my surroundings being from Merced (central Valley California). It wasn't safe where I grew up, and my husband is from the NW suburbs of Chicago. He doesn't pay attention to his surroundings and passes me off as paranoid until he went to my parents house and he made the realization. He assumed he grew up in a more dangerous neighborhood than me, but swat would frequently swarm houses on my street.

    Andrew is right about its easier to find good pizza than a good bagel. Its just that theres way more pizza places than bagel places. If you go into the far reaches of the city like South East Brooklyn, Eastern Queens and Northern Bronx, youll find more places that have good bagels. Some people think the pizza is bad because they get trapped by the "touristy pizza" that exist mostly in Manhattan, where they have 20 different types of pizza with different toppings, those places are usuall bad. And the good pizza places usually keep it a simple menu on the toppings.
    I know plenty of Chinese owned Tex-Mex food thats real cheap under 10 bucks, they just dont exist in trendy areas or anywhere in Manhattan.
    The part about people only hanging out with their own and "not as diverse" is a weird one. Culturally people hang around people similar to themselves, thats just human nature. Thats why we have places like Chinatowns, Little Italys and other ethnic neighbohoods. NYC is also seen more "closer" to the mother land than a place like LA where you have to adopt more to a "American" standard.

    Certain things make for better take out than others. Handheld and not messy are top priorities for me. That means something heavily sauced (many Chinese foods) or without a wrapped unless it holds together well are going to be sit down foods rather than take out foods for me.

    Staten Island is a real gem and hopefully it doesn't get too congested but after growing up there and having been living in another state for almost a decade -I'm really looking forward to spending more time up there and enjoying the old-school diners / delis that you guys mentioned which definitely have been in a sort of twilight period but some are more resilent then others, especially if the folks behind them have a new generation of family that are willing to take up the mantle, which sadly isn't always the case and hence why they're not as numerous.
    Every major city definitely has its pros and cons, but I do think NYC is one of the greatest cities in the world, hands down.

    Everyone has their own opinion. I have been to NYC more than 18+ times over the years. And have seen it change. But I wouldn't want to live there or in downtown L.A.. Most younger people cannot afford to buy a place to live in either city. And the cost of living is much more. Crime was up 22% last year in NYC and 11% in L.A.. Move to Orange County in CA... Alot of asians there, cleaner and much safer.

    I'll agree that tex mex and other things are overpriced. I wish tacos weren't like 3 dollars per chicken taco. Tacos are supposed to be cheap overall. Even places with homemade tortillas don't cost that much.

    Interesting comment about the dog poop. Why would someone who lives in a high-rise apartment get a dog? Wouldn't that be unfair and cruel for the dog? (If the dog's only outside environment is literally walking outside on the sidewalks?)

      Smoked meat like Lox and Pastrami?

    • @robert-antoinedenault5901
      @robert-antoinedenault5901 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeeBee-pl9ly lox is fish not meat 😂😂. We have smoked salmon. Here's the description;
      lox is cured in a salty spice blend, smoked salmon may or may not be cured but is always smoked and has a slightly smokier flavor.
      Pastrami in the United States is almost always made with navel, a cut similar to belly, or what you would make bacon out of on a pig. So it's a little bit denser, a lot fattier, and it's less stringy
      Smoked meat comes from brisket, as navel is much harder to find in Canada because of its British beef cut tradition, Smoked meat made from brisket can be stringier and a lot softer if it's steamed right. [Brisket's] not fattier throughout the cut, but it has a larger cap of fat, and it has a stringier texture, more fibrous. American-style pastrami is more marbled with fat and has a denser texture.
      In Canadian butchery, the cut called brisket comprises parts of the American brisket and navel (combined the two parts are called "whole brisket.") As such, if you go to a Canadian deli and order fatty, medium, or lean smoked meat, you'll receive a sandwich with varying amounts of meat from each portion of the whole brisket.
      Generally pastrami is just spiced with coriander and black pepper, and often sugar.
      But for smoked meat, there's really no sugar on the rub. It's generally black pepper, coriander seeds, more garlic, and sometimes mustard seeds, bay leaf, and other aromatics.
      MileEnd in Brooklyn does offer their version of Montreal smoked meat. BUT their poutine is not accurate as the cheese (while being the same kind) is not the same age as our traditional cheese curds are unripen (not cleaned), as it is illegal in many parts in the USA.
      Just for your personal info, smoked meat is not only restricted to a sandwich "format" it is also used in egg rolls, pizza toppings, pasta, poutine topping, as you would with bacon and or sausage meat.😂
      Hope that clarifies a bit.

    Never was a fan of NYC (as a whole) huge territory with the useless use of high rises. I never understood why the constant need to build upwards rather than build it smarter?!?🤯 Take Paris as a comparative, it's 8x smaller with 4x less population with a max avg height of 5 levels with a density that is "double" that of NYC, wide roads permitting natural (sun) light to shine into dwellings. Even if the city (Paris) had the same population (#) and the same size as NYC; properties (buildings) wouldn't exceed 2.5 levels. Whereas NYC has built up in such a abysmal fashion with countless high rises (+10 level) that cost more to build. As the break even threshold is 10; anything more past that point increases the cost to build thus the absurd prices for these dwellings. Keep in mind generally (90%) ground level dwellings in Europe fetch the highest price as they have the use of the garden whereas the top level get's the pollution. In NYC, they prefer spending more to be in the pollution😂 than having a garden (a nature sanctuary). USA over hype this city and similarly other's in their country.
    I'll even add the confusing, tardy and screeching loud metro system (as it runs on metal wheels) in that City (NY) rather than the quietness of rubberized wheels found in Paris (and Montréal, QC, Canada)😉
