      You'd rather get a blacked out arm than what they had at 4:00? you're trippin, blacked out arms are disgusting and is the worst decision imo. Especially when the ink ages and you have some nasty faded greenish black ink shat all over your arm.

      I have a question and maybe you can give me an answer. Around 19- 20 at the time had a drawing that I had since I was in 9th grade of a big tribal piece for my back decided to get it. Looked at the guys portfolio all his work seem good so I went ahead and got this piece at this shop and for some reason or another Don't know what it was some parts are not symmetrical some parts lines are touching tribal is supposed to be perfect symmetrical and it wasn't. All I have is the lining it was never colored in never anything else done to it My question is I was thinking of getting it laser removed and then redoing my back with better art is that something that I can do? I don't know how the skin reacts taking ink after you laser something off.

    A person getting a coverup of a name that involves a new guy's name - that even goes so far as to use the same font at that - is always going to be a bad coverup.

    When my first dog died and I couldn't get a flight home to see her, I got a $75 tattoo of her so she could walk with me always.
    A few years later I realized how busted she looked and found a new artist to give her a better portrait. They took it on and told me that the first tattoo was comfort and the second was tribute, and that's the only time I've cried during a tattoo.

      Sometimes tattoos are covered because they're in a place where bigger tattoos would look better, not because they're necessarily bad. We're in the golden age of trendy tattoos like micro tattoos and fine-line/stick and poke "diy" tattoos. There will be a lot of cover-ups to come, or a lot of people with bad tattoos when they're older.

    Wish how accessible laser is getting these days, I feel like that's probably the best moves for 90% of bad tattoos. Sure, laser isn't cheap, neither is a good cover up. And the only thing worse than a cheap tattoo is a slapping another cheap tattoo on top of it.

    • @jaimgom
      @jaimgom ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Let's be honest, someone who got a cheap tattoo and is looking to cheap out on the coverup as well is most definitely not gonna consider laser, which I agree is really effective (I'm getting an old tattoo lasered out to be covered) but also quite expensive.

    • @jakkbatt4711
      @jakkbatt4711 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Laser is 10x the price and pain, can scar too

    • @rebeccamcnamee1220
      @rebeccamcnamee1220 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @jakkbatt4711 Scarring only really happens during the healing process, from friction and other irritants/damage interfering with the area. If you dont heal well in general or the tattoo is in a bad area, then its a small possibility, but its rare unless you actually damage the healing skin or wind up with an infection etc - just like when you heal a regular tattoo.
      Youre more likely to scar from a innexperienced or cheap artist going too deep during a cover up than you are getting it lasered off. The price is a big doozy, but a lot of reputable parlours offer 2-3 sessions free or reduced as part of the cover up process.

    • @charlisebar-shai2613
      @charlisebar-shai2613 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Id honestly probably take my chance with a cover up and use laser as a last resort. Tattoos hurt, but laser seems agonizing

    • @rebeccamcnamee1220
      @rebeccamcnamee1220 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @charlisebar-shai2613 laser is less painful for most or extremely similiar to a tattoo, and it's no worse than getting a tattoo alone. If you've had a decent size tattoo or something more than a little script done, you'll be able to stand laser removal. I've had 3 sessions at different settings, the last one being one of higher settings. It's no worse than a rubber band being snapped on your skin for a few minutes. Plus, it's over in less than 10 mins, depending on the tattoo, with an easier healing process than a tattoo (imo)
      To get a cover up, getting laser first is just a better option where it's affordable, that's why a lot of parlours are starting to offer it free as part of the cover up process. Certain colours don't cover well and creating a design to cover every area can end up leaving you with a bad tattoo, a blacked out area that looks ridiculous, or bits of the old tattoo still showing through.

  • @Tignya
    @Tignya ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I sorta got a coverup around a rose tattoo I had gotten last year. The original artist put a purple around it without asking me first(it was my first tattoo, didn't ask when she pulled out purple that made it look bruise way after it's healed. Now it has a beautiful watercolor style rainbow surrounding it. The only purple you can see is a bit on the yellow.
    Quite glad I was lucky enough to get such a good artist to cover up the purple so well!

    If i were an artist, id have a "no living names" policy. Like 1) names can change. 2) names can turn out to be bad names when that person does something wrong. 3) names change in the case of chabging people. You can disown them, forget them, all that

      @MimiRAM0NE true. And I couldn't ask for a death record cause it isn't my business to know who died. All I can do is trust the client as much as they trust me. If they regret it later and they did indeed lie, all I can say is that its on them and that I hope they can find a way to move on from the regret

    I swore I would NEVER get a tattoo because I was afraid years down the road I wouldn't like what I had selected, and I'd need a coverup or a removal and wind up like this. I now have two tattoos (and counting), but each tattoo has years of thought behind it prior to having it put into my skin, and I think that's the best method for me. Thus far no regrets.

    Is also about the budget that customer willing to spend. I always say to my customers if you want just one session then it should be blacked out, won't look the best but won't break the bank. A lot of successful cover ups in this videos need to be heavily touched up, like you can't cover black tattoo with flowers that has yellow middle part in one session. And not so many people will pay for 2nd/3rd session, and barely any artist will do free touch up that will require 2-4h extra work, maybe even two touch up sessions.

    I got a cover up of an old tribal tattoo from the 90s. The artist told me you can't just go over it with black because then you will still see it. You have to hide it in your lines and also draw the focus to other areas.
    That's why the new tattoo will always be bigger than the old one. I wanted to go big anyway😃 so no problem there.

I got it to prove to myself that I could schedule, and go into my appointment alone, which was dumb 🤦‍♀️

    3:53 wait wait wait... you can't cover up a dark color with a lighter one, right? you can't cover a black out with a white out...or can you?
    5:32 I would've think of something more neo trad, with solid colors.
    5:52 how would you tattoo a portrait with a big a_s afro?
    6:35 so...you can put white over black, but as you say it's going to fade, and yes I agree, with solid lines it would probably look way better, if i'm not mistaken that would also need another session, right?
    7:18 I believe it's a win, you can't see the previous tattoo, so it's a successful cover up, an ugly one, but successful
    7:40 so... cover ups can work really well with purples and dark blues better than blacks, if it's not a full blackout, right?
    13:41 they cover up a feather with a big black 🐓

    The last one was the worst, the daggers handle and blade weren't lined up properly to be crossing each other

    I have a spider web tattoo on my elbow, the placement is off centre. Obviously there are a lot of lines. Your opinion, how hard would that be to cover up?

    Remember when it was like a matter of pride that you didn’t want people to know you had a cover up?

    The Cherries are by far the most outrageous one, literally the one tattoo designed to be full black.

    I thought the 8 year old feather held up which was the problem. I would have left it gone to color theory lady and added flowers to the bottom. Then again I have no tattoos

    6:38 Just imagine how scarred that skin is. There's at least 6 layers of tattoos on her arm.

    13:27 You did'nt mention anything about the artist using nasty saran wrap used as a bandage.

    You were being super generous when you said "I can tell this guy is a decent tattoo artist by looking at the bottom half" on the eygptian coverup... that looked absolutely horrible, I like honest reviews and critiques, even if they sound mean. That was easily the worst coverup and the worst technically applied tattoo of the whole video
