Optometrist here. Any time eye tattoos are mentioned there seems to be a lot of questions and misguided answers popping up, so I just want to add what I find to be the most important issue with them. First of all, the procedure isn't necessarily the worst part, the eyes are what is called "immune-privileged", which (theoretically, it's much more complicated) means they have their own immune system. They are great at withstanding invasive procedures and can be absolutely blasted with antibiotics in a way that the rest of the body can't would something go wrong. My main concern is about future eye problems. Absolutely everyone WILL at some point get some kind of disease or get some kind of diagnosis in the outer segment, and some of them are directly threatening to your vision. I can't see myself being able to diagnose things like conjunctivitis, scleritis, episcleritis, chemosis, hyposfagma, acute glaucoma, pterygium, pinguecula, neovascularization, eye trauma or any outer segment infection. Not to mention it will be near impossible to follow up on potential issues since you won't be able to set a base-line value for anything. I'd be surprised to see tattooed eyes making it to old age when many of the real issues kick in. I'd also like to mention to all Americans who seem to believe this: 20/20 vision isn't great. It's alright, it's the lowest acceptible limit.
@@GhostSwiss Most visual acuity charts go up to 20/10 (2.0). That's quite tough for anyone, but 20/13 (1.6) is what most optometrists strive to reach with correction for people under ~60. If someone says "I have 20/20 vision" I immediately suspect they have hyperopia (farsightedness) or light myopia (nearsightedness) and would benefit from wearing glasses. EDIT: The absolute physiological limit is like 20/6, which I believe has been measured once ever.
Thanks for taking time out of your day to share your professional knowledge! I find it staggering that anyone would risk their vision merely to change their appearance. I never judge body art because it's intensely personal to individuals, but this procedure is also reckless and inconsiderate towards those who may have to care for you if something goes wrong. I mean, they're your EYES for crissakes - a human's primary sensory modality! You should be looking after them every way you can! 🙄
Dermatologist for 50+ years told me the worst tattoo infection she had ever seen was a tiger on someone’s tongue. Allergic to red ink, skin separating of the tongue.
My son got a tattoo from one of the judges from Ink Masters back in 2015 and in 2024 it has not faded at all and still looks like he just got it. Helps that it is on his chest so covered most of the time.
All that talk of ‘the 1%’ meaning the vastly wealthy seems to have made it colloquially mean almost no one, whereas anyone living a comfortable life in the developed world is realistically in the global ‘1%’.

People always ask me how I'm going to feel about my tattoos when I get old. If I live to the age of 80, the look of my tattoos is no longer my concern. I'm just hoping I can still feed myself use the bathroom myself, and still be pretty independent.
My mom started getting tattoos in her 50s, and has probably a dozen now in her mid-60s-- working on both sleeves. She looks awesome and gets compliments from strangers all the time. Literally this morning the cashier at Starbucks noticed her newest one & told her it looked cool :D
I work in a seniors home. The ratio of people that regret their tattoos to those that don’t is about half and half. Not necessarily because they don’t like to look at the tattoo, but a lot of them look back at the reasons why they got them and regret the mental state that made them feel they had to get them. One of the people there is 82 and has a tattoo on her foot. It’s very old, and it just looks like a blob now, but she said every time she looks at it she’s reminder at the time she went on a vacation and was peer pressured to do it with the other people there. She regrets that she didn’t stand up for herself. Like I said, it’s 50-50.🤷♀️
My uncle is 78, only has one tat. He said he wished he got it in a different location. He has a black panther face on his forearm. From his time as a marine

I’m so glad that the first time I went to get a tattoo at 18 I was so drunk I ran into a wall and the tattoo artist asked my friend if I was drunk and she ratted me out. Then he refused to do it b/c I would never get a tattoo now.
He refused you because you had alcohol in your system. And when you have alcohol in your system, it thins your blood. I'm sure the artist didn't want a drunk, loud, and possibly irritable teenager bleeding profusely all over his shop.
I have a very vibrant, solid black tattoo on my knuckle that is 8 years old now that hasn't fallen out, but that's because my skin hasn't seen sunlight since Michael Jackson was black. so many people don't take care of their tattoos after it's healed and don't take care of their skin, then they're shocked when their tattoos don't hold up. TATTOOS ARE A LIFETIME INVESTMENT, TAKE CARE OF THEM.

FYI: IF you've had LASIK surgery on your eyes, CHECK with your eye doctor to see if you can even wear contacts. A lot of people who receive LASIK surgery CANNOT wear contacts AFTER the surgery due to the shape of their eye. Obviously, this isn't everyone but it is very common. My surgeon made me sign a waiver acknowledging the fact that he explained to me, due to my eye shape, that I couldn't EVER wear contact lenses (ANY type of contact lens whether it was for vision or for customes/dressup which included the scolera lens). ALWAYS check with your eye doctor before doing this. Have an eye exam BEFORE you have this done and again the following year to make sure that your vision hasn't been obstructed or the nerve damaged. There's nothing you can do about it if it has been damaged other than DON'T do the second one. I'd recommend doing ONLY one eye at a time and letting each COMPLETELY heal before getting the other permenantly just in case your vision gets screwed up with the first one you'll still have a good eye. Just my personal recommendation. Also, I'm NOT giving you medical advice. I'm telling you to see YOUR DOCTOR and GET THEIR ADVICE. Also, if you've had LASIK surgery, you may want to talk to the surgeon who did your surgery what they think about you getting tattooed eyeballs since THEY know your eyes and what they did to them. There will be a fee for the visit but it's best to consult with the actual surgeon if you've had LASIK done and also want to get your eyes tatted. Okay? Be safe!
Huh. I was never told anything of the sort when I got LASIK, or by any optician/ophthalmologist I have seen since? There’s different procedures though, so maybe I just had a different surgery… there’s also different types of contact lenses- I had to wear one for a few days when I cut my eye a while back lol

The only tattoos that concern me are things like full black out sleeves, and eye ball tattoos etc. What concerns me is how do doctors, pathologists, ophthalmologists, etc scan and assess your eyes, find veins, especially if in a hurry etc. I worry that it creates risks for the person for medical diagnosis.
I got an arm blacked out, had blood taken a few times, one of the nurses said it makes no difference, because they take blood from black people and people with different skin tones with veins that are hard to find all the time
@@jackogrady3118 Yeah blackout tats have no real medical issues outside of the typical issues of getting a tattoo (making sure you're using a sterilised needles, infection risk etc) but i guess the eye tattoos might make assessing your pupils harder. Not rly your vision particularly but maybe doctors have ways of dealing w that
Well maybe not a problem with blood tests etc however probably will be a big problem if say you got into a serious accident and they miss serious bruising etc because of blackout tats etc.
@@felixhenson9926I agree. The most valid health concern I’ve heard is with skin cancer because seeing how moles develop over time is how you tell if they’re cancer or not. My problem with that argument is that it could happen no matter how many tattoos you get.
It's crazy to see people getting such visible tattoos when they're hardly covered at all. I've got quite a bit done, have been getting work for the better part of 2 decades, and just (in the last 6 months) got a hand tattoo. But not before trying a temporary one to be sure I was ready for that huge step. The warning should've come before throwing Iggy Pop at us. Eesh! I have to go boil my brain to rid myself of that image.
I do love the look of some eye tattoos--Grace Neutral's purple eyes are so stunning--but man, I just can't imagine the risk ever being anywhere close to worth it.
For the eye tatoo there was this case in my country where the young girl tattooed her eyeballs ( she didn't have much experience with tattoos in general) and she completely lost her sight first in one eye, then- regardless of doctors trying to help her- in the second one. Now she's a blind 20yo something with demonic eyes that just jump out of nowhere since like i said she's not even heavily tattooed. I don't think people are aware how dangerous this really is. Even with the best specialist you still can be simply unlucky. I think if i did that i would first go for one eye and then if i didn't lost my sight or got infection i would go for the second one. I mean this way at least you won't get completely blind if something went wrong, right?
I would looovvveee to get my eyeballs tatted! However, the risk outweighs the benefits ( for me personally) also I'm already half blind, I Don't need help to be completely blind, or worse, lose one, or both eyes 👀
I would just get contacts for those reasons, it’s also just cooler that you can change them on occasion. You could get a collection of contacts for the same price as the eye tattoo anyways.
This is my very first time tuning into your channel and I must say, you have an absolutely pristine voice! The content is great as well, I was thoroughly entertained! Subbed!
Hey Pony, can we get a video about studio design? I'm a hairdresser but I have no idea about the fundamentals for decoration. I want an area to look nice but not cluttered ya know?
😂 you crack me up Pony.. gimme that room to wiggle! Always end up with about 10 of your videos lined up in my queue amd sleeping whilst laughing aint easy lol ahhhh who needs sleep 🤷♀️🤣♥️
I ran into a guy with his eyes done like that and I told him it was really cool (cos it is) and he genuinely seemed thrilled, and unfortunately kind of suggested that many people are scared of him/judge him for the look
My friends who are tattooed are at the age (we're in our early 50s) where their tattoos that looked bitchin' in our 20s/30s are looking a bit ridiculous. Keep in mind that while your tattoos may look cool while you're young, someday you'll be 50+ and your skin will be sagging, thinning and creping. Even tats that were well-done, look not so great after 25 years on aging skin. That girl who got the neck piece done at the start of the video is going to look insane when that neck skin starts sagging...which WILL happen, if she's blessed to live long enough. Think of your future self youngins
Not entirely true, I am 51 and have tattoos I got back in college when I was 19-20, they still are holding up very well, maybe not as crisp and sharp as they were 30 years ago, but still look good. A lot is placement and how well you take care of your skin. Granted, areas that are likely to sag, neck, yes, bingo inner arms on ladies, yes or if your weight swings 50 pounds are more will make them sag and distort. But if you plan on the area and go to a solid artist and shop, there is no reason your tattoo's can not look good for a very. very long time.
A designer I worked with was covered, he basically looked at an 1800’s sailor tattoo book when asked which one he wanted said yes. Each one is excellent, the quality is outstanding but as a collection they’re meaningless. My uncle spent 30 years in the merchant navy and his body told this story. Some of them aged like shit but he was a no fucks given kind of guy and if anything was all the more perfect.
My bother-in-law tattoos himself and his gf along with friends sometimes, he also got his gf into tattooing so she’ll tattoo herself or him as well😂they’re COVERED in tats that I call doodles… I’m very cautious of who puts ink on me bc I want the best I can get so when he offered to give me some ink I was like hell naw, sorry not sorry😵💫
I got stars done, really simple right, colored star, black outline, I went to a reputable shop, I made an appointment in advance, I paid a little more than market price, and they still got done poorly, if your going to get a tattoo do your research find a qualified artist, that you trust. I dreamed about these for three years before I got them, I have worn them for eighteen years now, but a lot of time when I look at them, I think how effing hard could it be to draw a star.
I'm going to be honest, as much as I love tattoos and the people who get them, some people who are really heavily tattooed make me uncomfortable to look at. Like the eyeball tattoo guy, sometimes there are so many tattoos so close together that it gets confusing. My brain can't make sense of everything going on. His face is too busy, if that makes sense. I love that he loves them, though! And I can still appreciate the time, effort, love, and art that went into each tattoo. I just can't look at such a busy canvas so long, personally.
@nerida3347 Yes, there have been a few. Not very old ones as far as I remember, though. Of course, it always turns out that it's not actually blood, or it's someone putting their own blood on it, or in other cases, leaking pipes and other things causing water/oil to drip from the statue. So they're all fake, and usually only the people in a town or local area believe it anyway, not all catholics/christians, etc.
I got my first and only tattoo a few years ago. The guy had great work in his portfolio, but I really felt like he wasn’t listening to what I was asking for. Unfortunately I had that mindset that I paid a huge deposit and waited months for my appointment, so I guess just get the tattoo he drew up. Now I’m wishing I had been more assertive, because now I have a large tattoo on my wrist that I don’t really love. I can attest to the fact that more thought needs to go into getting tattooed, and make sure you like your artist. Turns out I didn’t like mine.
I will not have any tattoos because if i want ot change or smthn like that ( i change choices a lot ) i couldn’t but wearing colored contacts would be cool
I know someone who got an eye tattoo who was up and coming in the UFC he lost vision in one eye and now he has been on and off suicide watch for years. it ruined his life.
My main worry with the eyes tattooed black is if you have an emergency, it's going to be difficult for medical staff to check your pupil response... So you might not get the proper care /diagnosis if you have some sort of brain trauma
Cheking the pupil response wouldn't be much of an issue, the muscle movement of the contraction is still visible (it's already something that's much harder to check on elder patients due to small pupil sizes). Now don't get me started on things that becomes extremely hard to diagnose; like conjunctivitis, scleritis, episcleritis, chemosis, hyposfagma, acute glaucoma, pterygium, pinguecula, neovascularization, eye trauma or any outer segment infection. From an optometrist standpoint; don't get eyeball tattoos. It's extremely dangerous to begin with, and it never stops being dangerous once they are done. Also 20/20 vision isn't great, it's okay. Not sure why Americans believe it's the golden standard for perfect vision.
The white one….. why did it just fall off? That was weird. Does anyone know if getting something done in watercolor is more painful than plain black? I have one around my ankle and behind my right ear.

Good point, somehow I doubt that the people that get these even realize this factual valid argument
As someone who just recently got their second tattoo, I’m glad I got small ones that I’ve sketched myself or pulled from things I like to use
Ah ya gotta love Iggy!
I do love the look of some eye tattoos--Grace Neutral's purple eyes are so stunning--but man, I just can't imagine the risk ever being anywhere close to worth it.
I really like this guy's frequency. Seems like someone with a good heart, sharp mind, and a funny bone.
Pony repping his Nintendo roots, I love the sweater!
That zoobooks commercial unlocked so many memories.
I've used scalera contacts and I lost sight in them a few times throughout the night. I liked the look but I agree with you on the risk
The leopard was beautifully, accurately don
Love you’re critique Pony ❤
17:05 My makeup in 10th grade 😅😂
😂 you crack me up Pony.. gimme that room to wiggle! Always end up with about 10 of your videos lined up in my queue amd sleeping whilst laughing aint easy lol ahhhh who needs sleep 🤷♀️🤣♥️
The Mario Kart sweater: ace !🤩
I love Quest!!! He is such a nice guy!!!
14:45 i got that w my tattoos as well and i love it. i redrew every motive myself to make sure i like everything bout it ^^
I ran into a guy with his eyes done like that and I told him it was really cool (cos it is) and he genuinely seemed thrilled, and unfortunately kind of suggested that many people are scared of him/judge him for the look
@scottbartlett2087 hmmm you hopefully will live two or three more decades...
The Marilyn one looks like something that would be printed on an LSD tab 😂
A designer I worked with was covered, he basically looked at an 1800’s sailor tattoo book when asked which one he wanted said yes. Each one is excellent, the quality is outstanding but as a collection they’re meaningless. My uncle spent 30 years in the merchant navy and his body told this story. Some of them aged like shit but he was a no fucks given kind of guy and if anything was all the more perfect.
I got a matching rose bud tattoo with my best friend when I was 16. Now it's a full bloom.😂😂
Def would love to see a video on the "$160 cover up tattooer" on Tiktok from you
"What are you afraid of commitment buddy?" 😂
0:37 was not expecting that throwback!
We just ignoring how the blood tears are coming on the outer corner of the eye rather than the inner corner where realistic tears fall
Ah yes that's the biggest issue here.
*"At least it’s gonna get infected and fall off."* 🤣
My bother-in-law tattoos himself and his gf along with friends sometimes, he also got his gf into tattooing so she’ll tattoo herself or him as well😂they’re COVERED in tats that I call doodles… I’m very cautious of who puts ink on me bc I want the best I can get so when he offered to give me some ink I was like hell naw, sorry not sorry😵💫
As soon as I saw that second Marilyn tattoo I thought “Dr Frank N Furter!”
7:18 that’s John Derp
😂😂
Keep up the great critiques, Pony.
Avril was done in by that 5:00 shadow, making her look more like a 5:00 AM hangover-Avril than a popstar.
Love your videos. Keep them coming! 🤟🏻
I like that suminagashi neck. Not that it was extremely well done, but I don’t think it looked bad.
It's a face razor for ladies to remove peach fuzz
I had a tattoo artist who got his eyes done black and he said he majorly regreted it
I really think that the Christopher Walken one looks more like a Steve Buscemi zombie
😂 That wiggle. ❤
So now it’s Uncle Daddy Pony. Covering all the bases. 😂 also, +1 for ZooNooks reference. High5
My leopard has a tattoo of a man on his back leg, looks great!
hey bud first time watching your vids and yes l have subbed lol
I'm going to be honest, as much as I love tattoos and the people who get them, some people who are really heavily tattooed make me uncomfortable to look at. Like the eyeball tattoo guy, sometimes there are so many tattoos so close together that it gets confusing. My brain can't make sense of everything going on. His face is too busy, if that makes sense. I love that he loves them, though! And I can still appreciate the time, effort, love, and art that went into each tattoo. I just can't look at such a busy canvas so long, personally.
@PonyLawson please tell where you got that rad Mario Kart sweatshirt 🙏
Eyebrow shapping razor used to shave 😂
Well there are other things they are used for too which is not so good
The man that tattoo'd the red crying from the eyes.... - they wanna look like pennywise LMAO
"Ya got any brains?" 🤣🤣🤣
Blood coming out of the eyes for a "religious" person would probably be a reference to stigmata.
Maybe I'm wrong but, in catholic Mythos, didn't a statue of Mary cry blood at some point?
@nerida3347 Yes, there have been a few. Not very old ones as far as I remember, though. Of course, it always turns out that it's not actually blood, or it's someone putting their own blood on it, or in other cases, leaking pipes and other things causing water/oil to drip from the statue. So they're all fake, and usually only the people in a town or local area believe it anyway, not all catholics/christians, etc.
There's a guy in New Zealand under the name "Ship Shape". Amazing.
@05:41 oomph im glad hes healthy and i think it was smart to wear the sclera contacts in advance very smart
Do your ears whistle in the wind on the right angle? Like how when you blow down a jug.
Kitchen magicians! 😂🤣😂🤣
Another great video
“At least it’s going to get infected and fall off” bahahaha 🤣
The molar tattoo, featuring eye lens is great
The portrait tattoos...you know those carnivals that only stay in town for two weeks? Yeah they looks like the faces you'd see on the bumper car ride.
Cool! I think you should look at some traditionel Maori tattoos !
Is that the Gatorade lightning bolt on Bleeding Eye’s cheek?
NOT ZOOBOOKS 😂😂😂😂😂
2nd girl is probably an artist. Look at her wall, and her mad choice of neck tattoo 😆
I will not have any tattoos because if i want ot change or smthn like that ( i change choices a lot ) i couldn’t but wearing colored contacts would be cool
🙋♂️I am also in need of some discipline “Uncle Pony”.
Also, your videos make me want another tattoo just to get some mad rabbit product.
Ok did that guy get the infinity gauntlet on his hand? Lmao 😂😂
I know someone who got an eye tattoo who was up and coming in the UFC he lost vision in one eye and now he has been on and off suicide watch for years. it ruined his life.
I have a question , iam tattoing my body myself, handpoke, can i use the same niddle to make another tattoo??
No, or at the very least make sure it's very well sterilised. But i think hand pokes are generally advised against as a whole.
@@felixhenson9926 its sterilissed many many times and cleaned
Showing up to work looking like red tears tattoo guy would be quite a shock to an employer.
Awesome shirt man
Love these critiques! ❤
I feel like that maniquin is going to walk at any moment lol
The guy with the eyeball tattoos, looks like Bob the shrunken head guy on Beatle Juice 😂
Hi! What's the hardest part about doing tattoos (if you are a tattoo artist)
2:52 yea… it made her neck loook way longer!!! Haha it’s almost like her head looks like it’s floating on her shoulders lol
Let's all do the Pony wiggle... Ha
Is the last one meant to be like the marks from it?
The white one….. why did it just fall off? That was weird. Does anyone know if getting something done in watercolor is more painful than plain black? I have one around my ankle and behind my right ear.
The fact that she’s lining with a shader on a tooth flash is crazy
