OMMFG! THANK YOU! I changed my tire, noticed it wouldn't go in forward or reverse. Thought the belt had come off. Replaced belt. Still nothing. Found this little bar in the garage where I changed to tire, had NO IDEA what it was. Saw your video and put the little bar back in and I was up and running again. THANK YOU AGAIN!
As usual, cheers to TH-cam and those that post for coming to the rescue and save the DIYers big bucks for something so small! Thanks for posting this video!
I wanted to be able to change the tires myself and I did it, was so proud, then the mower wouldn't go forward or reverse. Your video saved me time, effort, money, and my own self-esteem. Thank you!

Thank you!!! I had just repaired a tyre puncture and couldny work out what was wrong- came in and googled my problem, got your video- found the little pin lying in the yard where Id removed the wheel- excellent! Fiddled around for a few minutes lining up the grooves and ta-dah! Mower moving again. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video!! And sharing this information'' today I was cutting on the exact same lawnmower. Thank you! You saved me a ton of time and money. I had to take my rear tire off to patch a hole and when I put it back on the tractor would not move. As soon as I watched 2.5 minutes of your video I went out and found the pin in the grass and inserted it into my axle and the tractor moved like normal.
Hi Buck, greetings all the way from Ireland, my Dear John wouldn't go forward or back, checked the belts and drive bypass pin on the rear, all good, next stop I checked TH-cam and like the guy just below, your video came up first. And like yours, mine had just had a flat tyre (tire?) and I had taken the wheel to my local garage to have it repaired. It dawned on me that I hadn't tried to drive the lawn tractor since so I took the wheel off again and lo and behold, the pin was missing. A quick look around underneath on the garage floor and there it was. I re-installed it and just as you said, it's perfect again. Thank you so much. I was dreading loading it into my Transit van, driving to the lawnmower repair guy who is ALWAYS so busy at this time of year, especially in good weather. And my grass is really getting out of hand. Thank you so so much for your great advice! And like the guy a few replies down, I think I love you too! Liked and subscribed.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Like many others, I was totally stumped when I took the wheel off my L110, had a slow flat repaired, put it back on, and . . . . no drive! Took it off again, examined it, put it back . . . still no drive! In desperation I Googled something about lost drive after changing wheel, and WHAM! . . . there you are, my saviour! Such a simple thing, and when I went back to the mower there was the axle key on the ground! I had thought it was just a bit of twig and had ignored it, totally oblivious to how important it was! Thank you so much again, you saved me a lot of hassle and expense loading it on the trailer, taking it to the repair shop, probably paying a hefty charge, and bringing it back home . . . all for a piece of twig :)
Great note, Chris! Thanks. Glad your mower is back in business. Where are you located? You included a "u" in Saviour, which would be a British spelling, if I'm not mistaken.
@Buck's Small Engine DIY Ha ha, good spot! Spell check doesn't appear to catch comments here. Yes I'm English, but I've lived in Virginia for many years.
Thanks for this video! Had a flat tire on mine a few weeks ago and got it fixed - today I went to move it and it didn't want to go. Came in and watched your video and instantly realized why I had found that little key on the ground when I was reinstalling the tire a few days ago. Thankfully I still had it and 5 min later I was off and running. The toughest part is getting that stupid yellow dust cap off!
Much appreciated! Here I thought that I was going to have to somehow get it to the dealership for repair but after viewing this video, I recall seeing the key on the pavement following a tire repair. I'll go fix it now! Thanks!
This tutorial is still making an impact! Just had the exact same issue as depicted in your video happen to me yesterday and found this info today. Boy, am I relieved! Thanks and Kudos.
this happened to me once before but i had figured it our on my own THIS TIME i had completely forgotten about the drive pin. and as soon as he looked at the back tire i was like isssttt i knew that.
Me and Wife were going to change the drive belt and then we found this 2 inch metal square pin on the ground. Finally did my youtube research and found your channel for the 5 minute fix. It would perfect! thank you so much for the excellent video...
Wow. This exact thing happened to me today. And YES, fixed in 5 minutes. Went back over to where it happened, ran the rolling magnet over the grass and found that pin! Thank you so much for the help!
Went through a couple other videos to try and diagnose why it wouldn't drive. the second you said you had removed your will, I knew I found the right video. sure enough! and it prevents driving if only one of them is missing that PIN also. Thanks man!!!
Saved me an absolute mess of headaches, didn’t even know what it was laying on the floor next to the tire till I saw your video lol I was like ohhhhhhh awesome I’m not losing my mind.
OMG! Thank you so much! My son and I just put new tires on the Deere and I found a metal pin. I thought it maybe it was what caused a flat tire not knowing what it was. Glad I saved it. Of course after seeing this video I already had one and grabbed my magnet and scanned the gravel and ping the other. One was a little tight and filed it down (new rim). Works great now! Off to cut the grass! Thanks again!
Sir you are the man, originally had bad tires replace and had engine issues. After a new fuel filter engine fired right up. Feeling cocky now. But tractor would not move, yours was my first hit. 1 minute end you mentioned keystone, went to where I put the new tire on and found the original one. Reinstalled and now my wife is moving plants with her lawn tractor and trailer. Thank you Sir.
Dude! You saved me a stressful heart attack. I couldn’t find a dang thing wrong. Saw your vid, took off the end cap and everything was loose. Now to clean and repair. Simple. Lifesaver. You have earned your wings.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your tutorial saved me much frustration and a trip to the Ag-pro shop. It was the same thing that happened to me. If you ever find yourself in Alabama I'll have to buy you a beer.
Thank you very much. I had a sidewall slice on my tire took it off to take it to the shop to have a new one put on. Put the tire back on noticed this piece of metal on the ground (the axel pin) didn't think anything of it. Could not figure out why my 1 year old rider wouldn't move. Fist video that pops up on Google when doing a quick search is yours. Thank God. I felt like you were talking directly too me lol. Thank you so much
Hey bud, I had taken the rear tire off to fix, put it back on and left it there. Today I tried to move and nothing, checked what you said in this video and "Voila"...fixed my problem in less than a minute. Good thing I found the pin laying like 5' away from the mower...Thanks a million.
Thank you, Thank you, thank you!! I was about to buy a whole new differential and attempt to change that. I saw your video and was like "Oh my goodness! I saw that little piece when I fixed a flat! " You saved me so much frustration and money! Much appreciated sir!
That's exactly what happened to me, I took the tire off to get it repaired and when I slif it off it must have slid with it as I found the pin in my truck bed. No doubt like so many others this saved me time and alot of $$
Thank you so much, I watched your video and fixed my mom’s mower and saved her about $150, that was the minimum it was going to cost just to have the repair people come out and look at it.
Thanks so much!! I removed a tire to fix a flat and didn’t get the key in all the way. Thanks to the video I was even able to find where it slipped out and replace it. It was less than a 5 minute fix!!!
Thank you sir just seen your video and went out and checked mine the keyway was gone. Got my metal detector went down to where I know it stopped and found it put it back in just need to buy a snap ring!! Thank you a million you saved me
I cannot thank you enough for making this video. So, I removed my rear wheel/tire to fix a flat on my JD 170 and "thought" I'd put everything back together properly. I couldn't get the mower to go forward or backward however. I was completely frustrated and getting ready to take it into the shop, which is a huge pain. I watched your video, and went back to the area where I'd removed my wheel. I looked for about 5 seconds when I saw the metal bar that slides into the wheel assembly. I reassembled the wheel (correctly) with the metal bar in place, and the mower goes into forward and reverse perfectly! You were right... I was never even aware of the metal bar, or that it had come out of the assembly. HUGE THANK YOU AGAIN! MUCH APPRECIATION. On a side note, I wonder what the JD shop would have charged me to fix this issue :)
You just saved my ass! I just finished up a mower for somebody and I couldn’t get it to drive. Now it’s running great! 👍 Thank you!!! I’ll never forget this, brutha!
yeah, I was pulling my hair out for a bit there, too. But when I leaned over in the driver's seat and took a peak at the wheel/axle, I could see the axle shaft spinning but not the wheel. That's was the "ah-ha moment" when I figured out what was going on.
Maaaaaannnnn, you’re ALRIGHT WITH ME, I don’t care what anybody says about you!!🤣🤣 (I’m Retired Navy, and that’s an old expression we used among crew members to express “WELL DONES!”) This was indeed a MASSIVE TIME AND FRUSTRATION SAVER for me in particular, as I had just serviced my tires and did NOT realize that one of my pins had fallen out! I appreciate you man! Before this, I was thinking, “🤔 what could I have done to the Transmission Controls when I was nowhere near them and didn’t do anything by grease the axles!” Now I will replace both pins with new pins❗️👍🏾
OMG! Thank you. I knew about the keys, but apparently pushed them out the back, and swept them up with the grass & stuff from under deck. Reinstalled & golden. Liking & subscribing! 👍
May I add my “THANK YOU!!” for such a quick and easy fix for this guy who knows nothing but will try anything. Same cause… changed a flat; didn’t notice the missing pin.
Let me add my thanks to you as well. Thanks for the great video and quick fix. I had just taken the tire off to have a tube put in for a flat and don't know what happened to the old axle key, looked on floor and around after watching your video but no luck finding it. Cost me $1.26 for the axle shaft key. Quick fix, thanks to you because otherwise don't think i would have figured it out so easy.
Woohoo! Thank you. The tire needed fixing. I got it off, fixed and back on. But, I missed the 'axel shaft pin' when I took the tire off. Found it on the garage floor, got it in and off I went. Would not gotten it fixed without your video. Thanks!
Just had to say thank you for posting this video. I just pulled my rear wheel to inspect something and after putting the wheel back on, tractor wouldn't move. Watched your video, went outside to see if the key had fallen on the ground and it had! Put it back in and voila! Thanks again!!
Thanks for posting this video. It is a simple fix but it saved me much misery trying to determine what was wrong with my transmission after removing the tire and rim.
Brother I dang sure owe you one for this. Bad enough I had to go get a tire tubed after the first day then I get it back on a the thing doesn’t even move. I was getting a little heated but slowed my roll and found this video. Thank you!
@@Buckwsr Hi Buck, thanks for your reply. As it turns out, I watched your video after I had put the wheel back on, without inserting the axel shaft key. But I have another problem. I managed to push start the mower by starting the engine normally using the key, then engaging the accelerator pedal (nothing happened) then turning the other back wheel by hand while sitting on the mower; this engaged locomotion; then I ran around my yard once. Then back to my shed. So..., when I tried to take off the axel shaft keyless wheel, I couldn't get it off. It's stuck on the axel after I've taken off the normal clip pin and washer. Now that is weird. Any idea how to get off the recalcitrant wheel, so that I can insert the axel shaft key as you suggest??? Best regards and thanks in anticipation. Bruce from Australia . p.s. I've tried lost of lubricant WD-40 to get it off without effect.
@@bphooper1 Hi Bruce, I cannot conceive of any reason the wheel could be locked on to the axle shaft, especially if there is no shaft key inserted. I really don't know what to suggest. But of course, if the tractor is running and moving, perhaps there's no reason to do anything at this point....???
WOW as with every one else changed my tyre then wouldnt go forward or reverse. Tried everything I could but was really confused thought i would google it and boom got this post. Found the pin straight away and put it in. Works perfect again. Its not a good feeling when you think gee its going to probably cost a bit to get it working. But not this time thanks heaps.
I've been out here fighting this for about 2 hours. Tore the entire damn lawn mower apart. Changed a valve stem yesterday,& of course i lost the damn key. When i was putting wheel back on i was wondering why there wasn't a key. Had a extra from a gocart clutch. Thanks boss, your a life saver.
PERFECT. I noticed this part on the floor after changing the tire and couldn't figure out where it came from. So I threw it out. ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH! Just glad I'm not going to have to have a transmission replacement or overhaul as a result! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for this. Had a rear tire fixed last week and didn't see that I'd pulled out the axle shaft. Today I went out to my x300 and found it on the ground. THANKS!!!!!
Thank you! Than you! Thank you!!! Cutting the grass I picked up a roofing nail. Tried Slime, plugging. Nothing worked. Went and got a new tire. Put it on, started it up, put my foot on the pedal and nothing happened! WTF! I JUST WANNA GET MY GRASS CUT! Your video popped up on you tube and by golly that lock pin had fallen out. Followed your instructions and problem solved! Thank you again!
This video was a lifesaver, thank you so much I thought I was going to have to buy a new one exclamation mark God bless you!:-) I like and I'm subscribing
Love you!... After 40 minutes of troubleshooting, I was about to give up until I saw this video... There was the stupid pin laying on the floor, I didn't notice the wheel axle was rotating when I had my wife pressing on the gas while I was looking to see what was wrong. Thanks!. I have spent more time troubleshooting this piece of D-140 junk that actually using it... A different problem every month. Such a poor design and I only have 57 hours on the thing.
Thank you! We had tire resealed and when we put it on, same problem. It's raining too hard right now to work outside, but will when it's clear. Thank you so much. Now to the next problem. BTW, I love my little mower.
Thank you so much for your video. This was exactly my problem. I had removed my left wheel to access a gas tank bracket while replacing my fuel line. When I put everything back together I ended up knocking the shaft key out and my axle was just spinning.
This happened to me today - fixed a rear tire leak and engine would start but not drive-- found this video and found the small bar on the garage floor!! fixed - thanks so much - woo hoo

That was it. I found it on the cement after repairing the tire. Popped it back in. TY. Subscribed.
It's great when it's easy! Thanks for the note.
May I add my “THANK YOU!!” for such a quick and easy fix for this guy who knows nothing but will try anything. Same cause… changed a flat; didn’t notice the missing pin.
Great job, Jack, doing it yourself. Easy fix!
Glad you figured it out, Stu, before completely losing your mind, ha ha!
Thank you so much for this video. I was worried it was a belt, but it turns out to be a key and tire problem. All fixed in less than 10 minutes.
Good job getting it done yourself!
Just like everyone else on here, your video saved me. Thank you!!
Woohoo! Thank you. The tire needed fixing. I got it off, fixed and back on. But, I missed the 'axel shaft pin' when I took the tire off. Found it on the garage floor, got it in and off I went. Would not gotten it fixed without your video. Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for the note.
Didn't even finish the video! Thank you sir!! Found it in 30 seconds!
Awesome!
GREAT video!!! This happened to me, and I summarized it had to to with the tire change, and YOU WERE RIGHT!!! Thank you!!
Thanks, Jerry. Glad you're mower is back in business!
Thanks! Had the exact same problem after removing a tire to fix a flat. Luckily I found the pin in the grass and replaced it.
Just had to say thank you for posting this video. I just pulled my rear wheel to inspect something and after putting the wheel back on, tractor wouldn't move. Watched your video, went outside to see if the key had fallen on the ground and it had! Put it back in and voila! Thanks again!!
Thanks, Sandra. Glad you watched the video and got things all sorted out on your tractor!
As usual, it's the little things that get you. Thank you for this video. I was STUMPED.
Man, you save me a repair bill. Hard to believe how easy it is to drop those and not notice they are gone.
You saved me a few hundred dollars for a service trip, thank you!!!
Your the best I did this and almost lost until I saw your video thanks for making my day
Cheers big time man. Helped a ton. I was scrabbling here trying not to pull thing aparts. Didn't realise it was that simple.
Glad you got it figured out! Thanks for watching the video.
Thanks for posting this video. It is a simple fix but it saved me much misery trying to determine what was wrong with my transmission after removing the tire and rim.
Glad you're back up and running! Thanks for watching the video.
Very good advice. I had installed the shear key on the axle prior to the wheel and it must have slid off when the wheel was put on.
You saved me a lot of headaches. Same thing happened to my mower when we changed the back tire.
Yep! Easy fix. No tylenol required....
Brother I dang sure owe you one for this. Bad enough I had to go get a tire tubed after the first day then I get it back on a the thing doesn’t even move. I was getting a little heated but slowed my roll and found this video. Thank you!
Thank you for the note. Glad you're up and running again!
Got 'er done, exactly the same issue and same solution. Thanks, mate, from Queensland, Australia!!!!
Good job, Bruce!
Thank you. This is exactly what happened with my D155. I found the pin with a magnet. Thanks again!!
Great job!
Thank you for the note. Glad you're back up and running!
Thank you! I had the same problem after putting a new rire on. So simple, really appreciate your insight!!!!
Thanks! Glad you got it all sorted out!
PERFECT. I noticed this part on the floor after changing the tire and couldn't figure out where it came from. So I threw it out. ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH! Just glad I'm not going to have to have a transmission replacement or overhaul as a result!
Thanks for the video!
I feel your pain, Michael. And I feel your relief to realize it's no big deal to fix it! Thanks for watching the video.
thank you, Solved my problem first few minuets into this video.
Awesome! Good job.
Thanks for this. Had a rear tire fixed last week and didn't see that I'd pulled out the axle shaft. Today I went out to my x300 and found it on the ground. THANKS!!!!!
Yes, it happens a lot. Simple mistake resulting in major aggravation. Glad you got it figured out!
You’re awesome, just saved me hours, thank you!!!!!!
Thank you!
This is so amazing! Fixed my problem in 10 minutes flat.
Great job doing it yourself!
Thanks. Saved me a lot of frustration. You're a genius.
Oh, yeah. Pure genius material, that's what I am! Ha ha!
Thanks Buck. Wish that I had seen this before replacing the drive belt!
This video was a lifesaver, thank you so much I thought I was going to have to buy a new one exclamation mark God bless you!:-) I like and I'm subscribing
So glad I came across this video! When I took the tire off the key must've fell out and I didn't know. Found it on the garage floor later. Thank you!!
Yes, a silly little problem. But it happens a lot. But if you don't have a garage, that pin is a lot harder to find out in the yard!
Bravo! Another very grateful (and relieved it was only key) admirer of your video!!
I can feel your relief! Thanks.
Thank you! My exact problem after fixing a flat, exact same wheel as you too haha.
Thank you! You saved this knucklehead an expensive service call.
Yeah, that's a great feeling, isn't it? Getting it done yourself!
Thanks this just happened for my husband, googled this up, I knew it had to be something simple!
Cool, Jill. Glad to know my vid is showing up in the google search. Also glad you and your husband got it figured out!
Man I love the internet.. Thanks!!
Glad you got it sorted out!!
Thank you SO much! Same exact scenario here! Helped my dad fix his mower!
That's great news! Good job!
Thank you for posting this it just saved us big time!!
Much appreciated! Found mine in the old tire!
Lifesaver! This is the exact scenario that happened to me, didn’t know how to describe it, thank you for posting!
The panic: "Why the heck is my tractor not moving????" The relief: "Oh, just a stupid little pin...." Glad you got it figured out!
been looking for this answer for days. Thank you for the video. Liked and subscribed because who knows...
Yep, who knows....? Thank you!
You just saved us a ton of money! Thank you!
A great feeling, isn't it?
you and only you saved my life
Thanks for the chuckle! Glad your JD is back in action~
You solved my issue!!!!!
Thank you so much!!!
Thank you! We had tire resealed and when we put it on, same problem. It's raining too hard right now to work outside, but will when it's clear. Thank you so much. Now to the next problem. BTW, I love my little mower.
Great. I hope you are able to find the pin/key that fell out!
Yes. I saw it in the cup holder. I didn't know what it was. Thank you for responding.
Thanks for that! I was pulling my hair out - you saved the day!
That's me...saving hair, one head at a time! Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for your video. This was exactly my problem. I had removed my left wheel to access a gas tank bracket while replacing my fuel line. When I put everything back together I ended up knocking the shaft key out and my axle was just spinning.
Glad you were able to get it sorted out and back to work!
This happened to me today - fixed a rear tire leak and engine would start but not drive-- found this video and found the small bar on the garage floor!! fixed - thanks so much - woo hoo
Oh yeah! Easy fix! What a relief, right?
Thank you for this video, that was exactly my problem, found key on ground and installed it now drives.
A great feeling! Easy, no cost repair. Great job!
Thank you! This was the problem for me I appreciate the help!
Thanks, Ellie!
Thank you man, you saved me lot of time and money, thanks!
