Nicely done. I especially like the "McGyver" tool for stubborn bearings. Operating notes: A reminder _not_ to line up the gap of the 'clip' on the 2-puck system, with the gap/s on either side on the spool. Bad things happen if the gaps are lined up with each other. On the 6-puck setup: It's possible to install the brakes upside down, which is also a bad idea. If you did install wrong, you will know pretty fast, as to what happens. It's a good idea to make note of the right side before removel..I make a scratch. The older 6's had markings on the underside, indicating that...unsure about today's bits. Cheers, Ken.
I lucked out and found a red 6000 in the shed of a house that I moved into. It was left behind by previous owner. Had a decent 7' berkley rod attached, too. I dont know when it was made, but the foot says 091112-44 if that helps. I started pulling it apart the other day and found it only had 1 bearing. The other was brass. The cog wheel was stripped, but I found one at a local bait shop for 8 bucks. I ordered a new cog wheel online with a bearing in it, should be here Tuesday. I was also looking at getting the boca bearings after watching your videos. Do they really make that much of a difference? I think that if they do, having a reel of this caliber and only sinking 30$ in it is a steal of a deal. Thanks for your extremely informative videos helping me restore this found treasure. On a side note, there was also a Shimano curado 200dhsv in there, too. Add to that I bought a new 6500 yesterday. I just can't get over how amazing these reels look and perform. Timeless.
Hey Jamie I cannot get my handle to stay on it just pops off , im thinkin its stripped, it was fine then i put the power handle on and ya cant even use it now
I am not sure, you will have to remove the spool and have a look. I know one of these types of reel, I think it was the catfish beast special was spool and spindle all-in-one like the S series
Am I missing something? You removed the bearings from the first spool and re-assembled. Weren't you supposed to put new bearings into it? Aren't you running the spool bearing-less now.?
Me again, quick question I notice on alot of abu 6500 c3 there are a brass thin washer on one side of the spool bearing and I noticed the one you were working on did not, Is it a must have when putting in the Akios 9 abec bearings. Thanks for your time.
Just a quick question how come the 6 block brake system had the little white brake blocks but the 2 pin one did not, is it because those dont get them like the 6 pin brake block??Tks for your time

Thanks for the video. How many washers, touching bearings do you observe on each side?
How do you get the shaft out if it’s stuck in the bearings
With a hammer and piece of wood.

Does the Ambassadeur Beast (Mine is AMB-5501-BST) have the same spool/spindle type?

This is a Belleville spring washer, its one of the first things I take out when I want a reel to go fast!
