I just wanted to say that pre and post amputation rehabilitation and prosthetic services on the NHS are just as good as private. I can’t fault my nhs rehabilitation team my physio team was fantastic and my nhs prosthetist is my hero, yes there are waiting lists but Im fortunate enough to have an MPK, which is just as good as a private service could offer. I hope you don’t mind me adding this but it’s just incase people worry that the care they would get on the nhs wouldn’t be very good 🤗 As you mentioned each persons story is different. I’m so happy you got taken care of so well and in awe of how hard you’ve worked on your recovery 🤗
bluedeva Oh I really hope nothing in the video came across as me being negative about the NHS! I had a great experience with them & still do 😃 that’s why I said the only difference between the two was the Pam aid ☺️ did you walk on that aswel? I thought it was fun lolll So glad you had a great recovery also 👍🏽 Also what is a MPK? X
Sian Lord Bless you, of course not, it’s just so many people think you won’t get a decent prosthetic or rehabilitation on the NHS. I had so many people tell me that when I first became an amputee but it has been the complete opposite. My prosthetist is amazing even though it’s sometimes frustrating she always does me proud. I was fortunate to not have to use the Pam aid thingy, I’m an AK so I used a training device called a femorette which is like a normal prosthetic leg (with a bending knee) but the socket part has no bottom so it can fit different lengths of leg. Those Pam aids thingys are really odd though and they make so many funny noises when walking so I feel for you having to practice on it, I bet you and your physio’s had some giggles with the noises. I’ve seen others using them, they do look much more cushioning than what I used which would have been nice. An MPK is a micro processor knee a bit like your elan foot, it also comes with its own app which is mental but it means less embarrassing falls 🙌🏻 So glad your video popped up in my feed, your channel is fantastic 🤗
It’s so hard to describe to people how frustrating the wait to get prosthetics is! The NHS does give really good legs - but waiting around is hell - especially if you were very active before! I completely agree. Great vid Sian!
Thank you so much for this video, very helpful & insightful. I was one of the new amputees that message you via IG. I really enjoyed your collab with ampusteve on his channel! Btw great jumper 💯
I worked with Sian and I never spoke to her about what she went though but could only make a comment on the person for what I noticed and she is truly amazing! It was my pleasure to have met her and was crazy to hear what happened to Sian and I now i think evan more of her as a person. Sian you are a BOSS!!!!! 💙 Sending love and strength always Samuel knight x
I just found your video. I got my amputation 2 years ago. I remember reading about you in a magazine. I also thought a prosthetic was immediate. It took me a year for my incision to heal so I couldn’t get my prosthetic until a couple months after that. It was a horrible experience. Big hugs. Stay strong.
Sian Lord I’m trying. I wanted a pin lock like you have but they said a suction prosthetic first. If there’s any air bubble forget it fitting right and I have to take off and try again lol. It’s a process for sure. I’m soooo glad you’re doing ok and you received the proper medical care.
