    3 more significant differences : 1) the 49cc 4-stroke engine has a forced air cooling fan that is effective at all RPMs,the 2 stroke has no cooling system, it relies on moving the bike through the air 2) The 4-stroke has a proper lubricating system, the 2-stroke has a very poor lubricating system , so the 4-stroke should typically last much longer due to less wear 3) The gas mileage is much better with the 4-stroke. Period.

    I have gone up to 37 mph on a huasheng 49cc 4 stroke. On the crappy centrifugal clutch that sucks and can leave stranded at any moment leaving u to pedal ur butt home. But with a better transmission like the ezqmatic you can get excellent reliability from the engine. 2 strokes are good you just have to carry around 2 mix oil around with the tank to mix it not a big deal but something you got to do.

      Great advice! There is an engine kit which fits for everyone, whether it's 2 stroke, 4 stroke, or electric. There are advantages and disadvantages each option, and should be taken into consideration when choosing an engine kit. All of our engines are intended for recreational use, and are not intended to be used on public highways or roads.

    2-Stroke - All the power is in the top end, use more fuel, noisy, have to remember to pre mix your fuel, less reliable and harder to start in the cold. 4-Stroke, More torque and bottom end power, quieter, more fuel efficient, only have to remember to keep engine oil topped up, much more reliable and the most important thing... they don't smell as nice as 2-stroke ;) I am by no means opposed to 2-stroke, I actually love the things! I really do think they are better suited to high performance motorbikes rather than tiny bicycle engines though, especially if you live in the UK and want to get away with riding them around illegally without getting caught by the old bill :) Plus, from the figures I have seen quoted the power difference between the same capacity 2-strokes and 4-strokes is negligible, they are very cheaply made an are not tuned. Only when you start to polish ports, tweak carbs, filters, and expansion chambers (in the 2-stroke case) will you start to notice differences. Maybe if Stan Stephens starts doing a bicycle engine tuning service/kit I will be interested in the 2-stroke option LOL

    Now I know that my "1990 vintage Hyper motorized bicycle" is a 2-stroke one. I bought it just recently from a local pawnshop for $380.00, "as is."
    I had trouble turning on the engine, though, because I didn't exactly know how. I've watched another video on how to turn it on, including yours, today. Also, I didn't use a mixture of oil and gasoline on it...because I wasn't too sure about that. For a period of about 3 hours, I tried making it work. 👉 PROBLEM: They sold me the bicycle with a couple of wires loose. The one that connects to the "throttle" was disconnected. I connected one of the two wires to the blue wire that leads to the CDI box. Also, the white wire was disconnected, but I now know that it doesn't have to be connected to anything because it's optional and because it is sometimes used for connecting lights to the bicycle. 👉Another problem that I encountered was that both the gas line and the little gas filter started leaking. I need to replace those parts. 👉In the end, I decided to just come home peddling my vintage motorized bicycle, instead.
    Thanks for all your vital information... and for enlightening me. From, "Curious Joe" 😼👍

    I have build a 2 stroke engine bicycle build four times but the 4 stroke is the best of reliability (Engine will always start), fuel efficiency is far better than the 2 stroke engine, quieter than the 2 stroke engine, little maintenance, gasoline burn cleaner than 2 stroke engine, very little to no vibrations, 4 stroke engine last longer than a 2 stroke engine. 2 stroke engine is noisy, it vibrate the bicycle and loosen the bolts & screws, it leaks oil, 2 stroke engine is a dirty engine cause you have to mix the oil with the gasoline together, doesn't completely burn all the fuel and sometimes it won't start. The only pros about 2 stroke engine is that the engine and parts are inexpensive, it can be easily modified or upgraded many ways (for faster speeds, aesthetics, etc., etc.) and it slightly has a bit more power than the 4 stroke engine (2 stroke engine - 66/80cc displacement, may get as little as 3 miles per hour to as high as 10 miles per hour faster than the 4 stroke engine (49cc displacement) even if both are using the same amount number of teeth on the sprocket.).

    a 4 stroke ingin is composed of intake compression and power it takes a 4 stroke two revalutions of the ingin a two stroke combines exaust and power intake and compression so that it is only one revolution for each power stroke

    Does the 2-stroke vibrate a lot due to not having rubber motor mounts?

    Is it possible to remove the (what appears to be) plastic cover from a four stroke engine. If not, is it possible to paint it as long as I take care not to get paint on anything important. would it be possible to paint the entire engine so long as proper care it taken. I have an airbrush and am skilled in using it, so painting would not be the problem. Simply wondering if it would interfere with the operation of the motor.

    is it 30 min ride time because it might overheat overwise? what if adding fans to the outside that blows onto the motor?

    One thing only briefly touched on (wording was something like "4 stroke engines are better for the environment") is that 2-stroke engines have exhaust that is a LOT dirtier than 4-stroke engine exhaust. So dirty that even a tiny 2-stroke engine spews way more incompletely-burned and unburned hydrocarbons than even the largest luxury SUV with an 8-cylinder engine.
    Once you bolt a gasoline engine onto a bicycle, you no longer have a bicycle -- you have a MOPED, a type of motor vehicle. Like all motor vehicles, it requires licensing to be legally operated on the public streets and roads. If you build a two-stroke moped, it will be so dirty that it fails basic EPA emissions standards and can't be licensed.
    If you ignore these rules, a cop might notice your lack of a license plate, stop you, and write a citation with a nice, big fine. This is why bikeberry.com has disclaimers about its 2-stroke kits only being suitable for racing use.

    • @bikeberry
      @bikeberry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true however some local and state laws allow for these engines. Also, check out our EPA approved kits.

    Can either of these bicycles be pedaled independately while the motor is off? I used to have a scooter with a similar setup as the 4 stroke, and it seems like if you're pedaling and rev the engine, it'll engage the wheel and won't disengage unless you stop. The 2 stroke seems to be always engaged unless the clutch is pulled in

    • @bikeberry
      @bikeberry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bicycles with our engine kits can be pedaled independently by locking the clutch in its disengaged position. We provide a clutch lever with a locking pin as part of our engine kit package, or can be bought separately.

    False 4 strokes are faster stock 2 strokes are faster modified and company's push the 2 stroke due to the money made off all the parts to upgrade it .There is next to no parts to upgrade a 4 stroke right now. Get a 4 stroke no mixing and way more reliable.Mine goes 43 mph with a 50 tooth sprocket 3 speed hub.

  • @thingsdemystified
    @thingsdemystified 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is more of a comparison between two different models, not so much 4-stroke vs 2-stroke. The clutch has nothing to do with the engine. For example, our grass trimmer has a 4-stroke engine, and it uses a centrifugal clutch. It's also much more powerful than other 2-stroke trimmers I've used. It has a lot more low-end torque too. If I were choosing a yard tool, I'd pick a 4-stroke for sure.

  • @gefluzafix

    wakka
    2 strokes are cheaper
    2 strokes accelerate faster
    2 strokes have higher top speed
    2 strokes = free vibrator
    2 strokes run hotter and keep your legs warm
    4 strokes cost more
    4 strokes are pull start(meaning when the pull breaks off its toast)
    4 strokes dont allow custom oil mixing
    4 strokes arent noisy, competitive or get there faster
    DUH 2 strokes is the winner.

      also 4 strokes don't _require_ oil mixing - you could still do it, and have a running engine - albeit one that fouls up and has a lifespan more similar to a 2 stroke.
      Leading to the advantage of longer engine life.

      I have seen a video that addresses that. If I recall correctly, he added some kind of metal tab that would scoop up and throw the oil to get where it needed to be. Without doing something special internally, the bearings don't get oil and will be ruined.

    The other problem is you can buy a used motorcycle for $750-$800 on Craigslist. A year of motorcycle insurance is $60-$100 and a 250cc motorcycle gets about 75MPG. Plus, you can actually ride them legally on the road and they can keep up with traffic. Which makes the motorized bike more or less worthless. Now, an electric bike could be ridden on a bike trail and that's fun. But still the cost to build one is as much as buying a used motorcycle.

    You want a 4-Stroke! Especially if you want a to ride for more than 20-30 mins in temps above 80. In my experience, 2-strokes are a pain in the ass. Mixing oil + gas = EXPENSIVE FUEL! Who cares if you're getting 100 mpg when you are paying 2.50/gal for gas and 5.00 for oil mix. That's 7.50/Gal vs 2.50/Gal. So now, your noisy smokey rattling pain in the ass little motor who only likes cold weather REALLY only gets 33/Mpg. You're Welcome!
