good to see anglers starting to understand you don't need big treble hooks, I have landed many pike to 26lb on single hooks and only a few come off, no chance of damage and can unhook in seconds,
iv been using size 2 carp/cat hooks for livebaiting for years with lip hooked livebaiting and tailroot hooking on deadbait much easier and kinder to the pike.Never had any issues or losses do benefit from not instantly striking but it's no issue removing singles.Well done bud another cracking video.Tony
Last year I started using wide gape worm hooks from AMG and threading the bait on so it fished like a pre rigged lure. It was a crap idea and I lost loads of fish because of it so sacked it off but i still don't like fishing trebles. I always feel like its a bit harsh on the fish. I saw a vid a while ago using a hair rigged bait and circle hooks that seemed to work well. They guy was leaving the fish quite a long time to take the bait but on the wind down the hook would pull out and catch in the scissors of the fishes mouth. I'm def going to have a go with them this year.
So glad I decided to search for Pike fishing with single hooks on TH-cam! Was beginning to think I was a lost cause? I have been fishing with 6/0 Circle hooks for some years now and have had great success. Like you I feel treble hooks are a bit of an overkill and have retired all my treble traces I made some years back and never used! Any chance of explaining to folk about the dangers of fishing with short shop bought trace? Spend my life unhooking deep hooked Pike with 12" traces stuck in their gut.
I like your videos a lot! I've a question: sometimes you put the hook in the back of the dead bait and other times you put the hook through the mouth of the dead bait. In which circumstances do you choose from those two methods and why? I want to fish in a small, medium flowing river and wil be using a float. Does the strength of the flow of a river affect in any way how I should attach the deadbait to the hook? I've tried several times to catch a pike in that river, using a float and I attached the hook through the back of the deadbait, but without any succes. Probably I'm doing something wrong?
Drennan red bait flags are really helpful with softer oily fish.Just push your hooks through bait then hook bait flag lightly just past either barb or crushed barb makes hell of a difference.I have not used trebles for years.Even lure fishing with shade, rubbers and drop shoting singles rule.Tony
Great video again sir quick question is that a go pro camera on the chest mount or one of the cheaper Chinese ones. In the process of getting a action camera
Ive been fishing with 1/0 hooks for pike for a couple of months now and I recommend it highly. Great video as usual btw.

I’m off to eBay to buy some circle hooks. I’ve been fishing single hook shads all summer and loving the ease of unhooking. Great vid
