"And still this emptiness persists/ Perhaps this is as good as it gets" is a great lyric.
And the resolution of that with:
“Watch the sun come up and as it sets,
Yeah, this is as good as it gets “
I like the resolution as well, it hits bittersweet
He comes across so nonchalant but he's tried every guitar and set around to develop his sound. He's a true troubadour that constantly strives for perfection and a great sense of humour to boot!!
Great song writer so under rated. Has come so far since men at work.
One of the best lines I’ve heard put in a song... “I tried talking to Jesus, he just put me on hold.”
Reminds me of Kevin Gilbert's "The Way Back Home".
"I was lost in the city
when I chanced on a man.
Who said he was Jesus
as he held out his hand.
I tossed him a quarter
and said, "I'm your biggest fan"
Love that line!!
This song get's me everytime! Probably one of my all time favs!
Such beautiful music. And there is deep meaning to the lyrics. He has a pretty good life. He swims in the sea, enjoys driving in his convertible, and making tea. Yet still, there's an emptiness. He's searching for something more. Aren't we all? It's out there. Thank you for your music Mr. Hay.
I love this guy, because he´s a straight musician without airs and graces!
He had, has and will have always somewhat to say...with his lyric words. He´s great.
McLupo He is also extremely funny too.
Being the father of two beautiful young women, this song got my attention when he seemed to add “or a woman if you are one.”
Colin Hay is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. I was delighted to introduce those two ladies to him after a concert in Boston. His humanity and insight is a sound of strength and inspiration to me.
Like! And more and more…
Damn he has a hellishly great voice.
I'm blown away every time I listen to him. Incredible artist 👏🏼👏🏼
One of my favorite musicians. His music got me through most of college.
Colin Hay is just amazing.
3 chords... but 100% magical... what a great song... (well... 4 chords-ish)... but still it is MAGNIFICENT! :)
True. It's because he plays it with such passion. And also all the jingly variations in there spicen it up
This is one of the most underrated musician's out there!! Has the best lyrics and voice!!
IM IN LOVE❤
What a beautiful, meaningful song. Thank you for introducing it to me baby.
He has been with me All through men at work and and still he's with me all through these years
A very talented lyricist and musician
Such a beautiful song and such a good artist. He deserves so much more attention instead of all those nasty rappers and pop artists.
I love him. I think he is great.
could listen to this song 5 times a day..gets me everytime...'perhaps this is as good as it gets!!
ps. Love my life!!
This is a very special song, of course I heard it first on Scrubs
Just seems like a guy you loved to hang out with. I so enjoy his artistry.
my my my it's a beautiful song ;)
The thing that kills me is this guy is playing the most heartfelt lyrics & the show he's playing on is totally ignoring him. Colin Haye is the Bob Dylan of my generation.
saw him in concert this year. f ing great
Where?
Great song. The alternative mix from man@work is my favourite. It has such a soulful vibe.
Great sounding Maton and an even better voice. Supremely enjoyable.
I love this. I saw Colin a few weeks ago - another thing that I wanted to do, done.
This song is as good as it gets!
Thank you Colin!
beauty!! thanks for posting this!!
One of the best acoustic songs ever made
Great song with a ringing acoustic guitar.
We were tooling around Pompano and Lauderhill when this was playing on our radio, the local NPR affiliate WLRN. They have a great, live, Sunday afternoon folk show and Michael Stock does a great job of drawing in local, national and even international talent to visit the studio and play. We're lucky. We know it.
One of my all time favorite songs. So beautiful.
Great stuff!!
A national treasure no matter what nation he happens to be in at the time. Lol
Colin Hay rules ... a really great and wonderful Song ...! :-)
Inspiring song, thanks Colin....love your music dude
GREAT!
Love me some Colin
Outstanding

He inspires me as a young musician
... einer der ganz Großen...spielt in der Liga von Van Morrison...!
oh this is live XD ... Colin best
Colin Hay is a genius.
your a amazing singer
Love Colin Hay! Cheers! #PetesMusicFavs
2020 anyone?
ma ma ma itza biutiful uorld!
@keyjack100...i saw him in st. louis at a small venue. the place seated around 200 people. it was just him and his guitars. i think he's really found his niche, specifically solo acoustic guitar and voicing. His voice is really unique.
This man's work? He was the singer for "Men at Work" and yes, this is his song.
Yep.
such simplicity and yet beautiful :)
fanbloodytastic 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😎👊🏼✌🏼🎶
I"m guessing that we're living on the same continent. :)
Frank Philpott UK yay 😁
Great song and lovely guitarplaying. I love the sound of this guitar! Anyone knows who build it?
Rachel Harrington - Goodbye Amsterdam - Celilo Falls.
Whats it called when he uses hammerons as hes switching between chords?? It sounds amazing and I cant figure out what its called!! Like, he goes "G Chord" then as hes about to switch to the other chord, he does a hammeron to like an Em7 or somethin. Its beautiful.
@keyjack100 Because his music isn't overproduced auto tuned teen pop. It's raw, deep, and thoughtful. Best of all, this guy is the exact opposite of sell out. He doesn't charge ridiculous prices for his shows. I think it's a sign that he likes and respects his fan base and doesn't see them as a way to exploit them.
What kind of guitar is he playing? It sounds fantastic! (I love your show, Michael).
It is a Maton. Kind of looks like the EDG808
Colin plays Maton guitars.
I think he was referring to this generation and not the actual show :)
hey michael, what was the name of the rachael harrington song you played after this? thanks.
What kind of Guitar was Colin using?
believe its a Martin
anyone know what type of guitar that is?
dang - he left out verse 5
My my my its a beautiful world I like sleeping with Marie....
That looks like a Maton guitar.
Why do you say I am ignoring him?
He is fond of playing Matons...cant be sure here...
666 likes. That's me!
what does he say at 4:48 ??
"Oh was this live?"
Not familiar with this man's work. Is this song his ?
Best verse misses :(
