shop www.jackflemingartistry.com In this license plate restoration video I show the brushes, paint, other materials, and the techniques I use when lettering license plates.
@agems56 I used gloss enamel spray for the plate and gloss enamel brush paint for the lettering and numbers. I looked up the correct colors on the internet for the state and year. Prep is important. Also take Jack's advice and be patient with it.
What ever happened to annual plates stamped and painted by jailbirds! It was exciting to see what new colors would be coming out! Now we have to drive around with faded plates for 10 plus years!
I have watched a couple of your Plate painting. Just like Texas our state allows exact year of auto use for Vintage plates. I am in Nebraska and I have tried to paint the plate but you make it look so easy. I am having an issue with the letters but that is just becuase it is patience that I am missing and I dont have real brushes either. If I were to send you the plate after I blasted it and painted the base color to have you paint the letters what would be the process, timeline and cost? The plate is 1931 and is a Maroon ish color for the letters on a grey base that looks off white. The car that it is going on is one my father in-law restored for my wife in the late 60s early 70s. The plate is one my Uncle used on his car back in 1931 so kind of special for both. The number has 2-4s, 2-3s and 1-5. along with NEB and 1931 in small letters and the lip is painted around the plate.
I do $40 a plate if just lettering, plus shipping. I don't grunted a specific timeliness on return, but usually less than a month. It all depends on how busy the shop is.
I charge $40 a plate for the lettering, plus whatever the shipping cost is to ship them back. The only way to make it easy if brush painting is to brush paint letters and lines everyday. If I ever take a break from it, I feel like I get rusty real fast. Email me at jackflemingartistry@gmail.com and we can work out the details. Thank you for watching the channel.
@@JackFlemingArtistry sure I'll email you now! Another question, what colors do you have available? I'm looking for an antique color on a plate. What colors do you have available?
Wow ... that was well done. You're a perfectionist. I'm going to "attempt" to restore a 1956 Az plate that's black with white letters.
Practice make perfect. Been welding a brush daily for a long time. Be patient with it.
@@JackFlemingArtistry Thank you!
I have yet to restore a 1956 Alberta plate but have yet to figure out what type of paint or enamel to use as well as the right color!

Good morning sir
I am going to see if I can find a matching red nail enamel for Alberta plates which remained the same color for decades!
Congratulations on the 1000 Subs!
OMG if I tried this I'd have an ulcer in 5 minutes.
Haha. I find it relaxing.
I have a Japanese license plate I got with the car. But it has a bad spot where the paint is scratched. Would you do what type of paint that is
We usually shoot the whole plate with automotive paint and then I hand letter with sign painters enamels.such as 1Shot or Ronan
Great video Jack! I used Rustoleum Marigold on my plates. It’s really close to the original color and cheap.
Good tip
Ever try the screw in the lid of the hardener? That way you don’t have to remove the lid.
I haven't tried it with hardener. I may give that a go. Hardener lids always tend to have issues after a while.
@@JackFlemingArtistry I did it cause they only had the big can of One Shot hardener and I didn’t wanna waste it.

Agree. Unfortunately those days are gone.

Nice! I am going to try to do the same to my motorcycle license plate frame that I had powder-coated flat black with red letters to stand out
Be patient and take your time.
May know, what type of yellow colour on that plate
I send them to a painter friend for that part. I only know that it is anautomotive urethane
