    Just bought myself Sebago Rangers. Now i'm wondering if I should use Saphir Renovatuer Or Saphir Oiled cream. And maybe finish of with Saphir Invulner spray? I only have experience with renovateur, but it doesn't really waterproof the leather. Any advice on this? Best regards, Arno

    • @Vultain
      @Vultain 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s what I personally do. I tend to reapply the Invulner every 10 wearings or so. Your mileage could very depending on use. Once the leather is dry and needing conditioned. I use either the Avel Glycerin Saddle Soap or the Avel white shoe soap depending on the leather in question. The white is gentler while the glycerin is more agressive. Glycerin works good for most oil tanned leathers and the Avel Shoe soap I personally reserve for calfskin or other polishable leathers.

      Red Wing recommends their natural leather cream so the Saphir Medaille Dior Oiled Leather Cream here is a cut above that. I use it on my my 3345 Blacksmiths, my 10877, and my Nick’s boots in Wickett and Craig Oiled Tanned Latigo Boots(veg tan). I can’t recommend it enough!

    To cover up scratches from oiled leather, which would perform better the greasy leather cream in brown or the oiled leather cream in medium brown? Or would either work fine?

    • @CobblersPlus

      Either would work but they wouldn’t quite cover deep scratch unfortunately

    I own the Saphir Medaille Dior Oiled Leather Cream and Red Wing’s natural leather cream. I have used both too. Other than the fact Saphir’s product smells better and is a bit more water repellant I can tell little to no difference between the two, Would there be a longevity difference?
    Lastly when would one use Nappa Balm and on what leathers?

    • @Vultain

    I spent half my childhood, and all my adult life maintaining my footwear mostly wrong.
    I used mink oil or neatsfoot oil on oil tanned, and Lincoln wax on regular leather. Recently I bought a pair of suede Chippewas boots, and some nebuck Scarpas. I would have mink oiled the shoes, and silicone sprayed the Chippewas.
    I got the bright idea to use some rifle sling leather dressing on both. It's mostly beeswax from Pecards, and was pleased with the results. They both shed water like a duck now. I ordered Lexol cleaner and conditioner that I plan on using from now on. I bought Tarrago cream for the rest.
    I had no idea shoe wax was not good for normal leather, and could lead to cracking without a conditioner.
    I wish I would have known earlier.

      Avel has a soap that is not as harsh as saddle soap. The Saphir Beaute Du Cuir Avel Leather Rejuvenator Cleaning Soap. Use that if you need to strip the previous conditioning for some reason.

    First of all nice video
    Well I would like to ask you , the saphire oiled leather cuirs gras , is suitable with oiled "blonde " leather ( natural leather no color at all) I mean makes any darker finish?
    Thanks and keep doing great job

    Would it be appropriate to use the Saphir Oiled Leather Cream and apply a beeswax based leather protectant like Sno Seal?

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I try to stay away from sno seal because of the silicone in it and just use it on very bad weather boots

    • @lukemorarend2682
      @lukemorarend2682 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I was aware that there were solvents of sorts in the mix, but not silicone. I have been using Sno Seal on a pair of Chippewas since I bought them, and there is an odd surface cracking going on with the leather. Do you think there is a connection? I have been applying the Sno Seal about once every month.

    • @Vultain
      @Vultain 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lukemorarend2682 Something like Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP would be more appropriate. You can try and remove the excess with a bar of Fiebling’s glycerin saddle soap. It may take you 3 coats though to grt off the excess wax. The nuclear option is Saphir Renomat or Acetone. I recommend ppe if you go nuclear though.
