I have an older Orbi setup from 2018 with 2 satellites (RBK53). The WIFI is OK, but the system lacks descent function for home solutions at this price ranges. - If your ISP gives you DHCP, you are not allowed to change DNS server - You are not allowed to individual tune WiFi speed on satellites. - You can’t turn off 2,4 band even doe you can turn off SSID for each band separately - You can’t split SSID between 2,4GHz and 5 GHz. - OpenVPN works like a charm
Thanks for the points.. good to know. Your are right there are some functionality missing but for the general consumer is suppose to be set it and forget it, fully appreciate more consumers are becoming more savy. Additional SSID and VLAN functionality would be great too.
I've had the 853 since it first came out with 3 satellites, its taken Netgear a while thru multiple firmware releases to get things working as they should, but it's now a great system.
I am very surprised (unless I have missed it?) that no one has asked yet to see a video about optimizing the back end Orbi router settings as it is offered I this video 2:56? This is something I would be very interested in seeing to get the best out of the system, please feel free to do one. Thanks
Great overview. Do have any suggestions for a mesh setup that has these specs, especially the processor, but offers additional SSID configuration for IOT and smart home devices?
Interested in knowing about the access control, if i use the option to block all new devices, will i still be able to know if a new device is trying to connect and thus can allow it?
I’m never able to get to the screen found at 5:55. Instead, when my phone attempts to connect to the satellite it says “unable to connect to network Orbi92” and I then click dismiss. The bar that indicates the connecting to the network then never completes and I get a screen on the app that says “Orbi Not Found.” I’ve tried restarting multiple times and I don’t know what to do. Can someone help?
@@InsideWire worth the ask. As I plan to move away from netgear to Unifi. It’s not a easy process as it requires a lot of equipment and planning. I feel netgear do make good devices but obviously Unifi interface and customisation/ configuration is unmatched.
Note; speedtest in the Orbi app, or Orbi web interface tests the speed that your router sees from the ISP. Not the speed to your wireless client.
Thanks for the note!
correct. wish they would tell the user on that screen that the test is isp to orbi
@@zenhookah9296the page says orbi and internet. It's self explanatory. It doesn't say orbi and device.

I do really like the set up, its easy and simple and can be used without alot of configuration.

EXCELLENT Review! Thank you for covering wireless AND ethernet wired.
The speed test in app is testing the speed from your isp to the router.

do u have to pay every month?
Would definitely be great to see the RBKE speeds at the satellite.
If i get one sent to me from NETGEAR I will be happy to do a test :)
Can I still use this if I only have 1gb internet? Since it only has a 2.5 port
Is it possible to connect Satellite units to connect to main unit via Lan cable?
Yes it is.
Very cool content
Rich in realistic experiences
And clear detailed explanation
Thank you very much my dear brother
Glad you liked it!

same thing bro you ever find a solution?
Is this you just testing or moving away from unifi network?
Testing, if there was a bit more control built in, I might have been tempted to move away.

Very informative............thank you. Will purchase
I have WiFi 6 and it does not work on WPA 3, only WPA 2
Great video
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Since it is not possible to assign different ssids to each frequency, this is no longer an option for me.
Its a good system though
Can you turn an orbi router to a mesh router? I mean, the hardware in the router should allow to do that.
Rooter??
He is from the U.K.
They say things (and spell) things differently the the U.S.
they are getting far to expensive , my pc hole pc was nearly
same price , must be made by graphics card firm ....
agree, they are not the cheapest
Orbee Rootar 😂
