Charles county, Maryland, is an example of black gentrification. No liberal paternalism, no giving welfare to make one dependent, no American Dream, just the reality of a tangible black dream. This is for us, let the outsiders play with their narratives of black life while we live the tangible. We earned the way we live! Let's make it contagious! I'm pro-black positivity!

We bought our home summer last year. We love it! More money for the buck. 6-7 bedrooms, finished basement, 3 acres long driveway, in-ground pool, no water bill in a prestigious quiet neighborhood in small town called Hughesville (near Waldorf and La Plata) The houses are spaced far apart and there are so many acres of land that we hardly ever see our neighbors ( I loove the privacy)....We have a lot of black excellence in the neighborhood and would love more.

Hancock county Georgia, Sparta is the town. Lived in Charles County for 8 years and see lots of commercialization happening particularly in Waldorf & La Plata pronounced (Play-da). I lived off Bensville Road, which I still believe has the best neighborhoods in the County, including Friendship, Brentwood, etc. I just wish the county can have more neighborhoods akin to some of the more affluent black communities in PG such as Beechtree, Woodmore, Fairwoods, etc. They desperately need that. And perhaps a flagship grocery store (Harris Teeter, Trader Joes, etc.), and shopping, and a better facelift in North Waldorf, especially. But, overall, lots of good black folk in the area. I felt a strong community there and I do miss that

I live in Charles County. Happy I made the move. I enjoy living here.
There are definitely opportunities to improve the county.
    1) Public transportation needs to be built out. I see that grants are proposals are being moved, but they need to speed it up.
    2) Shopping options need to be improved. More money has moved here and that should let the developers and companies know that people here will spend money for quality.
    3) More money needs to be put in the schools and kid activities overall.
    4) Crime. No city or county is exempt from crime. But we can improve upon it.
    5) Highways. There needs to be more than just Crain highway as a major way in and out of the cities and towns. That traffic situation needs a major fix.

The money is still in PG County as a lot of Black people moved and are still moving to Charles County and other parts of Southern Maryland because they can no longer afford to live in PG County. Real estate in Bowie, Upper Marlboro, Fort Washington and Laurel is still predominantly Black owned.

Purchasing land would be a viable step for those wealthy enough to do so. This would create a residual economic boom that could last for generations to come. Imagine a sports franchise or large retailer wanting to build on your land.

I have family there… and going to keep it real.. there are not enough healthy restaurants and grocery stores.. traffic is terrible as there only 2 ways out 301 and 210.. then there is crime check the SMd paper.. most residents there migrated from PG and DC county area and so came the problems from those areas.. I use to live there 11 years ago as well.. Now health care is also terrible especially Laplata hospital..do your research…Also the mall there is dead.. so most residents leave to go to elsewhere.. Also it’s pronounced La Play Tah…
