Tips from a cowboy boot collector: - That's pretty normal, most of my boots require boot pulls to get past my ankle. Good fitting cowboy boots shouldn't slide on. Look for some good boot pulls for the future - those boots you have may be too small but boot pulls are 👌🏻 game changers. - Coconuts is a super cheap brand. Think Forever21-type cheap. I've never had a pair, but that might be the reason for the misfit. Some brands that are good if you have thicker calves or ankles are Ariat, Tony Lama, Boulet, or Tin Haul. A brand to avoid that has tighter ankles would be Ferrini, I can't get my feet into them at all, even with pulls and sizing up a few sizes.
@@rachaelhegi9338 girl I feel you. Try Tin Haul, they are funky and weird, and they're slick bottomed, but they feel like socks they're so comfortable around the ankle. They also run big, so I wear a 9.5-10 normally and 9 in Tin Haul.
As an avid thrifter, I have learned that the dry clean only tag usually doesn’t mean anything. I wash everything on tap cold because my washer doesn’t have hot water anyway, and take things out of the dryer after like 20 minutes (dryer is also messed up, can only do 20 minutes at a time on low or medium heat so that’s how I know the time is up). Generally speaking, polyester, cotton, acrylic, and nylon are fine in a regular wash and dry cycle. Silk needs to be put in a lingerie bag and air dried, and wool (includes cashmere, mohair, angora etc.), linen, and rayon need to be completely air dried. Not everything with a dry clean only tag is expensive or super high quality. I have come across a TON of Forever 21 with dry clean only tags. Heat is the usually main culprit behind things shrinking in the wash.
Great tips! I never dry clean, if it has that on the tag I just do a tepid hand-wash. For viscose/rayon, agitation is what makes it shrink (only certain types though so you don't know until you've gone and done it 😂) I have a dress that literally shrinks whole sized in the wash (luckily you can restretch it but it's just easier to hand-wash!) so yeah, don't throw viscose/rayon in the machine if it says dry clean, just hand wash it 😳
Completely agree, I've heared that the rotation motition also is a big factor in causing clothes to shrink and it's mostly the driers fault. It's best to air dry when you can!
Agree!! The dryer is what causes the shrinkage! Where I live is not common to have a drying machine so we air dry everything and i've never shrunken anything, even the dry clean only, wool etc
I've also learned the hard way that needing to be dry cleaned may be a reason a garment ends up being donated or deeply discounted at the store. Some things can be washed gently anyway, but it's definitely worth checking the care tag!
I just try to wash it anyway and see what happens. I figure the previous owner might have washed it already, instead of dry cleaning it. If I "ruin" the garment I just donate it back.
Great idea. This comment made my day, as it is incredibly punny: Doing this would indeed reform the Reformation dress, as oppose to restore the Restoration dress.
I like the last jumpsuit! I think it would be soooo cute with a oversized denim jacket to transition to fall! Especially since it has some orange in the jumpsuit. Too bad it’s a little small for Carrie, but I thought it was super cute on her! 🥰
That would be cute, also I'm definitely seeing platform sandals with it! (but I think platform sandals go with everything so maybe don't listen to me lol)
Hear me out for that black and white top: Black footless leggings. Black flats. Black 3 inch thick belt. Straightened hair. Neon blazer. Statement necklace that weighs at least 5lbs. Large glass of bottom shelf vodka n cranberry. Live your best 2010 college girl life 😌
Check the brand on those $30 pants. They may be actual vintage from the 60's or 70's (Pucci style) and you could at least get your money back or even more if so.
Hot tip for the boots: I had the same problem once and you can actually bring boots to places like boot barn or boot store and they have a tool that will stretch the leather for you! I can get my foot in easily now :)
Most things say dry clean only but you can still occasionally wash at home. I'll usually wash it in a mesh garment bag, the key is COLD water on a gentle cycle and then hang or lay flat to dry, don’t put it in a dryer.
if the colors don't bleed in water you can probably just hand wash the dry clean only items in cold water and let them dry on a drying rack. i've never bought reformation clothes though so i'm not totally sure, but that's how i wash my clothes.
I’d love to see a DIY video out of thrift fails! Like maybe making a patchwork design on the back of a denim jacket out of ruined fabric, or turning a teeshirt into a hand bag. If something can’t be donated or resold, I think it might be fun to try and reuse. Much love ❤️
actually you can wash the reformation dress, you should wash it with 20 degrees. AND I HAVE A GREAT TIP IF YOU WASHED WOOL CLOTHES TO HOT: I had a beautiful woolen jumper and I washed it to hot and it shrunk. I bought dried white big beans and put them in a bowl with cold water. The next day I took the beans out of the water and put my jumper into the beans-water. I left it there for some hours and washed it with cold water and it became bigger again. Its an old trick, but there is something in the beans, which straightens /smooths the fibre. try it, it worked pretty well :)
"it's like I just get excited that something is available in my size. So I think I need to buy it" Same gurl. I find something that fits and is cute and I have to ask myself: Is it actually cute compared to my own clothes or just compared to the other clothes on this rack...
The fact that i 100% understand every one of these issues because SAME, been there. Thanks for being real enough to share & make us feel normal, this is why 🥺 THIS is why. LOVE you for this 💖
In case no one else mentioned it, you can buy Woolite dry cleaning sheets that clean those items really well in your own dryer. I’ve used them for my vintage dry clean items, and it’s super cheap and easy to use.
ooofff I feel you, I messed up a few clothing items as well. It took one of my favorite (and expensive) shirts to remember to read the tags before washing them. It usually the hot water that makes them shrink.
i never get stuff dry cleaned! just air dry fancy clothing so it won’t shrink. the color bleeding will happen if you put bright colors with whites (like those shorts) - opt to do all your whites separately to avoid those weird stains
Okay but wait. That jumpsuit is amazing on you! The colors look great. Pair with gold jewels, that straw hat, and some tan or brown sandals. Total vibe!
That playsuit looked lovely on you, I loved the colours! I get what you mean by it not being your style though, sometimes I think it’s not even me ordering things, then they show up and I’m like wtf 😂
This video was just recommended to me and can I just say THANK YOU!! I always felt alone after purchasing something at the thrift store and then getting home and hating it. I always felt like that with thrift stores that don't accept returns or even exchanges. This makes me feel better lol "I have a very large head"....its the way I screamed "SAME". where are my big-headed girlies at LMFAOOO. I even know my own head circumference because hat shopping is a struggle. I usually have my hair in box braids or faux locs that adds to the measurement.
Omg, when you put 'jail' on the screen describing the absurd Saver's price on the pants...I'm dying. It's 530 a.m. and I'm in tears, laughing my ass off. Thank you, I needed a good laugh bahahaha
Just pair the reformation dress with red shorts or red bike shorts, add combat boots and a cute leather jacket (if it's cold ever lol) and it'd be adorable!
Trust me I have a lot of fails they look so good in photos or on the model and I get them and either they look super different or they just fit terribly and then I’ll resell them on because I know somebody somewhere will find them absolutely perfect for their needs or their body type!!! I would love to see more of these videos personally my least favorite probably was the Feather trimmed bubble hem top. You are just such a cool person really nothing look bad on you at all because you have a beautiful spirit
I had the same problem with a pair of boots I bought. If you have doggy poop bags, slip then on your foot and put your boot on, it works all the time! The pull the bag upwards and , they should rip off. Hope that helps!
If you know of any people who do alterations in your area, it wouldn't be very expensive to have them sew a bit of a ruffle (nothing too gathered, maybe 1.5-2 ratio) to the bottom of the reformation dress! It's so cute & looks so good on you, it's totally worth saving
You are not alone on the thrift fails because I had to really start looking more closely to the garments during my whittle down process. We still can not try on items here in Missouri so it more of a trend to now that you will be bring thrifted garments home that will not fit or not the look you looking for. But I pay close attention to my care labels if they are still attached. I am more of a handwasher any way but I had this really great sequin top and I hand washed it and it totally disintegrated in the sink (heart break). I love thrifting cowboy boots and now the thrift stores have gotten a clue, they have up the prices and I have not been buying them until they on a major sale. You probably have an high arch and that can be a no for putting on some style of cowboy boots. I did go to my local utility/cowboy boot shop and bought a contraption that made my world easier for taking them off and it was only like $6. I don't do too much buying on second sites because of fear of getting something that not exactly what the picture or measurements depict. This was fun to see and I agree the $30 pants was a major fail because of the price. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.
I've found out when I started shopping more sustainablly that with secondhand/better quality clothing it is almost imperative to try things on in the store if you don't wish to come home and realize that you don't particularly like an item on/it doesn't fit you. If you try them on in the store you wont have to come back/ donate them to someone else, plus they'll be ready for someone else to buy right away
For the stained/shrunken shorts: not sure if you have this where you are, but we have donation bins in my area that go to a clothing/textile recycling company. I try to send things there so they at least get one more chance at being reused instead of going straight into a landfill!
Ahhh I love this video so much! We all have these in our closets. The black & white top kinda gave me low key rhea pearlman in Matilda vibes 😂 side note- I am so excited to see your fall outfit inspo 🍂
This happened to me a lot when goodwill closed there fitting rooms. It was basically a guessing game to see if my clothes would fit when I got home. I'm so happy fitting rooms are open again.
With ur cowboy boot issues, I had the same issue getting Dubarry boots to fit me. I’m a UK4, and needed to get them in a UK6 due to my high arch, and once I do get my foot in, the boot is massive on my feet
You can un-bubble a bubble top, usually, if you like the fabric enough to keep it. You just undo the seam between the inner and outer layer, and hem the outer layer if it's the kind of fabric that frays. It probably will be a little loose and flowy since it was made to "bubble".
unrelated question because you mentioned a pad and I have add, have you tried period undies? I found modibodi so good, and feel like they help my period pain by not adding pressure or discomfort anywhere 😣 anyway maybe they help, curious to hear your thoughts regardless
I actually loved the little orange and black jumpsuit on you. With your docs and a jacket I think would be adorable. Also you could still wear that little dress just put shorter bike shorts under it 😊
I found a vintage versace sweater last year and it was also dry clean only and now it's wayy to small for me to even put it. it doesnt fit my head. the reformation dress is so pretty!!!
Love the last jumpsuit though! But then again orange is my fav. color and it gives me a groovy vibe with that pattern 🤩 thanks for sharing your fails cuz ... damn I think we've all been there 🤣
WAIT A SECOND the Reformation dress actually looks sooo good on you 😢😢 why don’t you use it to cover up your swimsuit when you go to the beach, like if you take a walk on the beach and want to wear something to cover you up? As a tall girl myself, I do it a lot with dresses that are just too short
Also a big headed lady! Can you do a hat collection video and share where your fave hats are from? I've ordered a sunhat from Duluth because they have actual sizes but the L/XL is still a little snug on me.
You can definitely hand wash and hang dry Dry clean only items. If you have a front loading washer, they tend to be gentler, and you could even get away with the delicate cycle. But yeah, the dryer is where you can really kill your dry clean only items. I’ve literally never dry cleaned anything in my entire life Just hand wash
"I just get excited that something is in my size and alI feel like I need to buy it" This is literally me on Poshmark. I've bought at least 5 things that I ended up reposhing because obviously I was never going to wear them??? WHY did I buy?? Solely because I was excited it was in my size.
To help put on a pair of tight boots, use a plastic bag with handles. In a bottom corner seam, poke a hole and put your big toe through it. Then slide your foot in the boot and once it’s in, pull the handles to rip the bag off your foot. Works like a charm.
I feeel the washing machine fails. I washed a blouse I thrifted without realizing it was authentic silk, it was all dull and sad afterwards! I was (and still am) so bummed.
True story, thrifted a cute dress. Wore and washed it a few times, the last time I wore it I was changing back into it coming back from lunch (I work next to the local animal shelter and walk the shelter dogs for my lunch break, can't do in a dress so I change), and when I started to zip up - the zipper literally broke in half. I have never had that happen before, looked at the dress. Dry clean only. Whoops. I think most times it's not necessary but I found an exception, I guess. LOL. Spend the rest of the day with a safety pin and making as few movements as possible.
With the Reformation dress you could totally seam rip where the under-boob top meets the beginning of the bottom dress part and then cut and resew it to turn it into a blouse! That way you could wear it with jeans and some other pants and then you still get the super cute pattern and frills at the bottom! It would be so cute if you made it a little cropped too!
I recently went to savers in Ohio and was excited to go and get some good deals but I think post pandemic their prices went up, I was surprised to see how expensive some of these items were, Im just lucky I checked the prices before I checked out I put back half of the clothes I was going to buy because of the prices.
Okay Im actually kind of in love with that orange bandana top, will you be reselling it? It just unlocked some strong childhood memories from yknow, before the depression hit XD
@@rebeccajones9757 I dont think Ill be able to even if she lists it, her poshmark says she only ships to the US and Im in Canada :( I hope whoever does get it gives it a good home!
The shorts 😂 oh girl, they look like you’re attempting to Disney bound jungle cruise 😂 you are so cool for sharing this sh*t with us. I love it

Yes I couldn’t agree more! I’ve thrifted and purchased new ariat and Laredo boots and they fit sooo much better in the calves. Boot pulls 👍👍 yes yes
Yes such good info!! Ariat has been great for my thick ankle/calf.. ok ok I have cankles 🤣 and boot pulls yesss

Justin’s are also great for wide calf/ankle! I have very thin calves and look ridiculous in them! And Justin’s are soooooo comfy

It pains me to see it, but I indeed feel a connection haha. Boy have I made some clothing mistakes over the years
Add some lace or other type of trim to the bottom of the Restoration dress and you may be able to save it!
Yes, black lace trim would look so good! Great idea, the dress is definitely too pretty not to wear
And it fits her so well in terms of silhouette!
@@aless.andra9620 I agree!

Agreed I was just going to comment that it’s super cute and with a denim jacket yes
For the dress -- just add some long bike shorts. Super cute early 90s moment.
Or with some leggings. Good to go girl. That was a cute dress!
I was coming to the comments to say this
I thought the same thing!
There's even some with lace on the bottom and that would look so cute.

Reformation use viscose/rayon and I think it's the type that shrinks with agitation 🙄 So the washing machine is not its friend

I would killllll for those brown/blue/green pants omg 🥺 now I’m gonna stalk your poshmark lol!
Also a big headed lady! Can you do a hat collection video and share where your fave hats are from? I've ordered a sunhat from Duluth because they have actual sizes but the L/XL is still a little snug on me.
The black and white bubble shirt reminds me of Tracy Turnblad's dress from the final song in hairspray!
"I just get excited that something is in my size and alI feel like I need to buy it"
This is literally me on Poshmark. I've bought at least 5 things that I ended up reposhing because obviously I was never going to wear them??? WHY did I buy?? Solely because I was excited it was in my size.
"Don't over buy at the thrift store"
Good joke🤣🤣🤣
This video made me laugh so much🙂
To help put on a pair of tight boots, use a plastic bag with handles.
That jumpsuit does look super cute on camera though …. 😉😉😉😉
i love these videos!!! so iconic and funny and just make me feel a lil better about my fails
Iconic how?
Amazing and hilarious!!! I’ve definitely had some epic thrift fails myself! Thank you for always being real and relatable ❤️
I’m obsessed with that jumpsuit!!! Give it me guuurllll 🤣
You had me laughing my head off with that bubble shirt!
Shoutout to my big head gang 🤪 hats literally never fit my head
I feel like the same exact shorts were in the last thrift fail video. Maybe the third time will be the charm with those style shorts 😂
That last jumpsuit looked great on you!
I recently went to savers in Ohio and was excited to go and get some good deals but I think post pandemic their prices went up, I was surprised to see how expensive some of these items were, Im just lucky I checked the prices before I checked out I put back half of the clothes I was going to buy because of the prices.
Um, yes. Definitely more!! This video was fantastic
Okay Im actually kind of in love with that orange bandana top, will you be reselling it? It just unlocked some strong childhood memories from yknow, before the depression hit XD
I hope you get that top!
@@rebeccajones9757 I dont think Ill be able to even if she lists it, her poshmark says she only ships to the US and Im in Canada :( I hope whoever does get it gives it a good home!
That jumpsuit looks so freaking cute on you though! 😭
I love the last jumpsuit and I think it suits you great. But sure, I get that it is not everybody cup of tea ahah. Have a nice day Carrie.
Would you mind sharing what products you use to sanitize clothes you have thrifted?
Where did you get your Jean shorts from??? I love that outfit!!
