- Santa Monica, June 11, 2024: Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies and Metro Armed Security conducted a comprehensive sweep of the Metro train system today, with a special focus on the downtown Santa Monica Station. This daily operation aims to ensure passenger welfare and uphold public safety standards.
During the sweep, a Sheriff's Deputy and his K9 partner patrolled the metro searching for explosives. The K9, trained to detect high explosives, can identify body-worn explosives and concealed firearms from a distance of around 50 yards.
At the downtown Santa Monica Station, Metro Ambassadors and the Metro Outreach Team were present, offering outreach and assistance to riders.
Metro Ambassadors support riders on Metro buses, trains, and stations, connecting them to resources and reporting maintenance and safety concerns. They are part of a multilayer plan to improve public safety, which includes security and law enforcement, homeless and mental health outreach workers, and cleaning crews.
Metro Homeless Outreach Teams engage with unhoused riders on buses, trains, and stations, connecting them to resources. These teams are also part of the multilayer safety improvement plan.
The downtown Santa Monica Station serves as the terminal stop for the Metro line, making it crucial for authorities to ensure all passengers exit the train upon reaching its final destination and re-tap to continue on the train. This measure addresses reports of some unhoused individuals using the train as a makeshift shelter, remaining on board for extended periods and even sleeping onboard.
Sheriff's Deputies and Metro Security at the downtown Santa Monica Station combine security duties with passenger welfare checks. Their responsibilities include monitoring trains and platforms, enforcing the code of conduct, tackling fare evasion, and upholding the rule of law to ensure safety and security for all passengers.
The increased law enforcement presence at the station is part of a broader effort to address concerns related to criminal activity, instill a sense of safety among commuters, and ultimately restore confidence in the Metro system. This proactive approach is designed to deter criminal behavior and encourage ridership without fear.
Authorities urge passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unsafe situations promptly. In emergencies, passengers should dial 9-1-1. For non-emergency security concerns, passengers can reach security personnel at 888.950.7233. Additionally, passengers can use the train intercom or station intercoms, marked by red signs on station platforms, to alert Metro staff to any incidents.
The heightened security measures underscore the commitment of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies to ensure a safe and secure travel experience for all Metro passengers, with a renewed focus on the downtown Santa Monica Station as a key point in the transit system.

I wish they would do this on the Red line as well!! Especially on the weekends when people are sleeping everywhere, sometimes taking up 3 seats. Of course there is worse, especially at my station MacArthur Park. OmG!
The worse station probably in all of Metro History
I used that station to go to Langer's deli and it was fine. No issues at the station. It was clean, music playing, and no weird smells. The only thing I saw were all the street vendors outside the station, but they were selling stuff. Though I'm surprised they are allowed to setup there considering the plaza area around the station is Metro property.
They are doing this at various end of the line stations throughout LA Metro.
That's what I'm saying.. they get scared to go there
The world famous #19! Langers 👍
I just love these videos I wish you guys were around here. We need people like you Philadelphia, New York city New Jersey Chicago. Are you sheriffs police officers cleaners what a good job you all damn thank you so much.
I very much appreciate your camera lens speak for itself. Thanks for showing the reality, both good and not so good.
NONE OF THE COPS SAY CAN I SEEE YOUR TAP CARD!!! ,,, THE LOAD SPEAKER SAYS KEEP IT HANDY... I KNOW YOUR NOT PAYING AND SLEEPING AND HOMELESS ...
You could be paying and sleeping though. I've done it when I've been too tired even if I didn't intend to fall asleep. Though usually a loud enough sound will wake me up.
Maybe that is not what their assignment is to do. They are there to look for explosives, remove the homeless from the trains, and ensure no major crime is happening. LA Metro has its own officers to deal with non-paying riders by checking phones/tap cards.
@@mrxman581 VERY TRUE ,, BUT YOU BETTER KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN FOR CRAZY NUTS THAT MIGHT STAB YOU ,,,
I ride Metro everyday and there's a lot of non paying passengers riding who are not homeless. The announcement says to "tap with pride" urging riders to pay to keep the trains running more efficiently. They simply don't have the personal to check every rider all of the time, so "tap with pride" to keep the service running more efficiently.
Impressive videos and great to see officers being compassionate with those less fortunate ,
Not really sweeping just enabling and co depending homeless ever see them check for a ticket? Nope just kicking the can down the road
They’re security guards not homeless outreach with millions of dollars in their budget. Even if they did they’d piss it all away
This is ABSOLUTELY ABSURD that they are only focusing on and filming primarily at the Santa Monica's train platform and not the 7th Street Metro Center, the platforms on the REDLINE, the platforms on the SANTA MONICA LINE itself , etc, etc.,etc. There is nothing but the same if not more transients carrying weapons on all the other platforms and train stations besides Santa Monica on a daily basis.
The terminus makes the most sense to get people off because it is easier to control. The trains are stopped. They are trying to tackle the problem of people riding the trains all day. This is a start.
Ochrona Metra musi być (Metro protection must be)
Greetings from Polish✌️👏
Question: Do these guys really need the bullet proof vests ?
Duh
They’re not ballistic vests, so not super heavy.
Plus, they protect you from knives and other sharp weapons, not just bullets.
Some riders get a little stabby when they get woken up.
@@WCoast_ that is why the need to reopen the psychatric hospitals...
I'm security and even we have vests.
I miss my hometown town reminds me of my red limo in San Diego
Hello I like the way the police officers do there job its nice to see 👀 respect law and order
We had to loose 2 life's for them to do that smh lil late
Thank you for showing this. I’m flying in on Friday and plan on using the metro to get me around. So I feel much more safer by watching this.👍
The LA Metro has improved noticeably over the last year. Ridership has gone up every month over the last 16 months.

hey dude can you do more than just video tape Santa Monica like the Red line and maybe you could show videos of how the homeless are sleeping on the buses and maybe show videos of the so called case managers offering people housing after they have to leave the train?
I probably see more than 10 Santa Monica sweep videos . All the videos seems similar and in the same situation , always homeless…..etc….. Just tell me why are we seeing it day and day if the sweep really works ?
Thank you to the Officers Metro Staff for keeping us all safe. The trains would be exponentially worse without you there.
Talk about a kiss ass wow lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Do they chase the out the sleepers from the B-line terminals?
Are they doing this at Atlantic as well?
Have you quit filming the police on the beach and on the streets?
He's probably changing it up, & this situation with Sheriff's checking the metros is a recent thing.
The K9s are so cute!
I just wander what they think dealing with and having to see all the nonsense at work😁☺️
Just lock everything up and stop let people in without a ticket
LA Metro doesn't use tickets.
Where strict control of its citizens is still required in a free country. A free country doesn't mean you ca freely do anything! It' called rights through responsibility.
I wouldn't describe it as strict control. It's simply enforcing the rules and regulations of public transit that passengers agree to abide by when using a publicly run transit system. It's not your private vehicle.
To have a civilized society, you need rules. The rules need to be enforced, or you no longer have a civilized society. We see civilized society getting a little less civilized in places that don't hold the rule breakers/criminals accountable for breaking the rules.
Dude at 11:30 that’s BS. My field of work i have to tell people to move along and I do it politely and 9/10 times there response is “fk you I’ll move when I’m ready” . So even before I approach the situation I’m prepared for a confrontation because that’s usually what they want, and they always lose. So when your asked the first time to move now, mfka move!
look at the dog at 6:16
also shake hand with the nose
anyone noticed that it is always Santa Monica , wondering what happens in all other metro stations
I am not saying it is not good but I really don’t see it will improve any safety situation
The Santa Monica sweep , to me, is nothing but just a showtime
The reporter is from Santa Monica, that is why.
Same for Code Blue Cam where the channel owner is from the La Crosse WI area so many of the videos are from La Crosse WI.
Drug sniffing dogs?
Probably looking for expl*sives. They don't care about drugs.
I appreciate this officers and all entities involved. It’s a start .
Shit local commuter here.

Another great video 🫡
Thanks again!
0:19 they let people camp there?
Well it's not a criminal offense to be homeless unlike other states like Virginia. Which means cops can't intervene if it's a civil matter unless theirs a city ordinance that prohibits outside encampment. Also that's the job of Santa Monica police. The sheriff deals with big crimes they looking for guns or gangs.
Yes, but never in Florida! Encampments on beach property/Colleges, etc. is not allowed.
As the previous commentor said, it's different if there is an ordinance against camping in a certain area. That's not allowed on the beach in LA either.
Heading home soon
You should wear a pedometer,it would be interesting to know how many miles you and the police officers walk on that platform
24/7 crime sweeps everywhere in USA💪
Must be an election year

The Security guard with the tattoos once kicked this guys off the train that was bothering me. He was super helpful and kind.

That's not reality, but since you don't use it, you don't know sh*t about the LA Metro.
The ridership has gone up for tge last 17 months in a row. Google it and be less ignorant.
