- Santa Monica, CA - June 5, 2024: Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies conducted an end-of-day sweep of the Metro train system following the last ride of the evening. As the final train arrived, deputies boarded to inform passengers it was the end of the line and the train was now closed. Many riders were sleeping, requiring deputies to wake them and have them exit. The trains then returned to the service station for routine maintenance and cleaning, with service resuming at 4 a.m. the following morning. The Sheriff's Deputies maintained professionalism, kindness, and courtesy while ensuring firmness and efficiency in clearing the trains.
E Line service hours are from approximately 4:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. daily. Trains operate every 8 minutes during peak hours, Monday to Friday. During midday on weekdays and weekends, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., trains run every 10 minutes. Night and early morning service is approximately every 20 minutes daily.
Earlier in the day, at the downtown Santa Monica Station, Metro Ambassadors, the Metro Outreach Team, and The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Mental Evaluation Team (LASD MET) offered outreach and assistance to riders.
Metro Ambassadors support riders on Metro buses, trains, and stations, connect them to resources, and report maintenance and safety concerns. They are part of a multilayer plan to improve public safety, including security and law enforcement, homeless and mental health outreach workers, and cleaning crews.
Metro Homeless Outreach Teams engage with unhoused riders on buses, trains, and stations, connecting them to resources. These teams are also part of the multilayer safety improvement plan.
The LASD MET provides crisis assessment, intervention, and targeted case management to defuse potentially violent situations. They assist in placing individuals with mental illness in psychiatric facilities or linking them to outpatient services. Each team includes a deputy sheriff and a licensed mental health clinician authorized to initiate involuntary psychiatric hospitalization. This co-response model aims to reduce use-of-force incidents, hospitalizations, and unnecessary incarcerations of mentally ill individuals. LASD MET also provides training for de-escalation, crisis negotiations, and reducing incarcerations.
The downtown Santa Monica Station serves as the terminal stop for the Metro line, making it crucial for authorities to ensure all passengers exit the train upon reaching its final destination. This measure addresses reports of some unhoused individuals using the train as a makeshift shelter, remaining on board for extended periods and even sleeping onboard.
Sheriff's Deputies and Metro Security at the downtown Santa Monica Station combine security duties with passenger welfare checks. Their responsibilities include monitoring trains and platforms, enforcing the code of conduct, tackling fare evasion, and upholding the rule of law to ensure safety and security for all passengers.
The increased law enforcement presence at the station is part of a broader effort to address concerns related to criminal activity, instill a sense of safety among commuters, and ultimately restore confidence in the Metro system. This proactive approach is designed to deter criminal behavior and encourage ridership without fear.
Authorities urge passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unsafe situations promptly. In emergencies, passengers should dial 9-1-1. For non-emergency security concerns, passengers can reach security personnel at 888.950.7233. Additionally, passengers can use the train intercom or station intercoms, marked by red signs on station platforms, to alert Metro staff to any incidents.
The heightened security measures underscore the commitment of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies to ensure a safe and secure travel experience for all Metro passengers, with a renewed focus on the downtown Santa Monica Station as a key point in the transit system.

These are a couple of the good sheriffs. They know the passengers and who the trouble makers are. This city needs more like this.
Reminds me of the cops from the 50s watching these sherrifs
Notice some Joe Biden's people are wearing mask? People need to pay attention and distance themselves from them.
The city needs a proper government.
The city needs a new Charles Bronson to deal with Joe Biden supporters
The sheriff deputies know who the trouble makers are, but if they arrest them, the liberal policies and liberal DAs won't prosecute them. There is no punishment or accountability for being a criminal/ troublemaker.
As a transit rider, I've noticed the E line is a bit more peaceful these days. Kudos to these enforcement efforts.
Good to hear, but it won't last unforunately.
The origianl Gold Line was a decent experience as it served a part of L.A. that wasn't ghetto. It went through areas that are still populated by middle class to high-salaried people (that went to work whether they liked it or not).
Then, after consolidation with the decrepid "blue line' the amount of homeless, fould odors, and general filth rose 100% . This last hope of a decent and quiet ride is no more.
If I were a mayor or councilperson within Los Angeles County, I would not entertain nor allow the MTA to build a light rail system through my city, as it only brings down property values, taxes first responder duties, increases theft of adjacent businesses, and eventuially forces long-term families (which invested with the commuity through local patronage, involvement with school and community activities, attracting like-minded business and capital investments) to move away en mass.
This is why Los Angeles is now listed as a top ten city with residential and business leaving.
Thank the stupid DA Gascon as a prime motivator for attracting homeless to overun the city and its infrastructures (like buses, trains, stations, and once pristine public parks).
Who wants to raise a family in a city losing control on safety?
But have the mentally ill been sent to a RELEVANT HOMELESS SHELTER IN LOS ANGELES? or did they make their problem someone else's who cant deal with it?
Feel sorry for the Mexican lady with the little dog, hope she can get help with her life.
It's the same at other stations. This is why the MTA loses ridership. Passengers are uncomfortable going on the trains and buses. Public transportation was never intended to be roaming homeless shelters where you have people riding until the trains are out of service. I don't know why the MTA doesn't force people off immediately when they're basically trespassing on the transit network. They shouldn't be allowed to ride all day.
in Moscow, Rus we have administrative response for this kind of thing (fines) with bigger penalties for repeated violations, works like a charm
It's called Newsom's Law ... the taxpayer pays all expenses for the drug chooser no matter what it is, to keep them as comfortable as can be. Even if that means the taxpayer has to lose his life in the process.
The MTA Board is filled with a bunch of career politicians ONLY interested in making $$$$ from your taxes....without returning the favor by keeping the buses and trains safe. Most of them are appointed through nepotism or chroneism. Some only win because their parent was a prominent politician back in the day. So, they are disconnected with the stark reality afflicting the MTA public system. None of them ride the system!
They just don't care! Proof: not one of them has willfully gone public about mitigating all the problems. You only hear or see them when local news stories call them out.
No, they shouldn't not be allowed to suffer in front of apathetic citizens... Most of the issue is not being able to provide real help for people suffering so excruciatingly. BUILD HOSPITALS IN LA!!!!!
I really like these cops a lot. I admit I am less than a big fan of the police in general but it’s refreshing to see these two act exactly the way they should very calm and genuinely kind. I must give credit or credit is due.
I was so excited when I found out the expo line was going to open walking distance to my condo building. Since I have season tickets to the Los Angeles Kings, I thought how convenient for me. I can go, drink, have fun and reward myself for all the hard work that I put in to my community. It took me 4 times of riding this line to figure out that my family and I weren’t safe. Here in California, we pay the highest taxes of any other state. I pay 12k in property taxes for a 950sq foot condo for what. To deal with this?!? "You shouldn’t go out here at night" my wife walks my 3 lbs Yorkie here. Just like the girl said, it’s skid row
Sorry to hear about this. But, yeah, the MTA system is not a safe alternative for any transport (be it primary or secondary) withn the Los Angeles area. One reason why there is so much auto congestion at all times.
Hard to believe the politcians are selling the idea of public trasnport during the next Olympics (yet another waste of your hard earned taxes). Where I work, the people in charge of upselling public transportation dont even use public buses or trains...at all.
SKID ROW used to be only in DOWNTOWN LA, now it has expanded to all of SOUTHERN CAL😟
Jus5 because u pay so m7ch in property taxes doesn't privilege you into having a yellow brick road fantasy. You pay the highest property taxes b3cause of where you live and what infamy SM attracts around the world. If you would of done the research you would that SM is known at Soviet Monica for a reason
The officers are very good and they have a great relationship with the public.
We appreciate you Officer Solomon and Beautiful partner.

Absolutely amazing individuals. Thank you for every single act you perform.
If those two young ladies were underage Take them to the station and call their parents to pick them up Then give the ticket to the parent when they pick up their kids for violating the curfew
They can’t do that or else who gonna kick out the bums ? They fosure don’t got replacements for them and wouldn’t make sense to have one sheriff do it unless the guy is like 6”5
What curfew?🤷♂️
Sheriffs need to patrol the whole system.
Last I heard, the transit authority DID NOT renew the sheriff’s contract for security services on the lines themselves. That was left to a private security firm. That was a few years ago, so it may have changed but I doubt it.
Sheriff Salomon needs a new patch for the back of his vest.
He's the S4ERIF
We need this system for the blue line coming to Long Beach
The lady is smoking meth but then puts a mask on.
I wish they give this people help they know there homeless but Biden I busy sending money to Ukraine
Cities must invest in public security. Our jails need to treat violent criminals worse. Do you know Asia is more safe than North America?
No place is safe - I like to take the train 1 day - my children dont let me.
They need to be forced to get off drugs.
, & submit to colonoscopy ! ! 😬
Agree , arrested, and given a choice of prison or rehab. Instead, they are given needles and allowed to do drugs in public.
This does nothing else but leave the people in Santa Monica to deal with.
America is being doing that for decades and it never worked when I was in jail in 2006 most of them have drug charges and in jail have rehab programs that didn’t work the only way it could work if they want to rehab that is volunteer
@Wileyg4lify I guess you just keep putting them in jail. I have compassion for them, but I also have compassion for the hardworking people who have made better choices in life. A woman going to work shouldn't have to worry about an irrational drug addict when she is trying to go to work or come home from work. A civilized society has to have rules.
God bless these deputies!
I was on that train once & someone standing in the aisle threw up. And kept throwing up. For what seemed like a half hour. It was so disgusting. EMS was waiting when we got to Santa Monica because this woman was having a serious overdose & who knows what was going to happen next. Never saw anything like that since.
The trains are so damn dirty it’s disgusting
Throw up is nothing. Once saw and smelled a homeless guy take a shit in a bucket at one end of the red line train car.
, we need to band together , & stop selling liquor , wine & beer for a month ! Love to see melt-downs from that , type punishment
Imagine having to sleep on the subway to sleep
Shame to see .Public transportation is awful .I rode a bus a few weeks ago , first time in years due to car broke down .The stench was so bad i was gagging .Smelled weed and there qere nut jobs yelling and talking to themselves. Dangerous .Then when the bus would stop at bus stops, id see people drinking alcohol, loud music being played, people sleeping on the bus stop seats mid day .I wont be doing that ever again , its uber .
I just don’t get why the lady with the pipe wasn’t arrested. A sheriff saw her with the pipe he ask her for the pipe she was refusing to leave she admitted that was doing drugs and still not got herself arrested. That’s one of the main reasons why the city it’s decaying.
Because the DA and the far left proxies in that office WONT prosecute. SO what's the point, but getting them off the rail lines so the taxpayers and paying customers can use it without being yelled at, assaulted and bothered. Take the win when you can
Why bother arresting them if the DA will let them out with no bail
@@MH_6160 I’m aware of that situation, but that sounds more like an excuse that a real reason. I’m not doing my job because they are not doing their job. What will happen if all the people had that mentality the country will be in ruins.. just take the person that are coming crimes to jail if the DA doesn’t want to charge them it’s on them sooner or later the blame it’s going to fall on someone.
It’s easier to take away her stuff than to arrest her. About time they’re done doing paperwork and arranging for a transport that lady will be out on the street smoking it up again. When the da and judges don’t care I think the cops find the more economical way to deal with these people. Take their stuff. If it was me they’d each get 2-3 years. Give society a break and them a chance to get off the drugs… that is if they don’t get it while inside 😏
Some non profits handout crack pipes for free. SF is an example of handing them out free.
Idea for a new reality tv show: Survivor Santa Monica subway station. Contestants try to survive riding the train AND sleep there without getting kicked out. And if they get discovered, they have to move VERY slow and have as much stuff thrown around as possible.
They should supply the sheriff's and MTA with free belts for a lot of these Dudes that just can't keep thier pants up. ( We see a lot of that) Good job officers! 👍
Good officers here doing their job. But the negative is these people get booted onto the streets of Santa Monica & cause more trouble there. This train ruined SM. Bad descision by the city.
I live in Santa Monica and use the train to DTLA all the time. During the evening rush hour it’s 45 mins vs well over an hour by car. The Metro has been amazing for Santa Monica and I’m happy to see the good work that these cops are doing to keep it safe for passengers.
It's disturbing that the OFFICER said those streets in SANTA MONICA are one of the worst as far as being DANGEROUS to walk through, 20 years ago it was one of the safest before when there was no subway line that went there, I could only get there riding the BLUE BUS, I also moved there for awhile,, I would walk all over SANTA MONICA at night and nobody would bother me, VENICE was the dangerous place in that area back then😕
This is what Daisy would be doing if she actually cared.
Daisy is too busy being insane 🤣💀
@@nightfall22 who is Daisy?
GOOD, this is what LE should be doing…. out on foot doing patrols and being accessible and visible to the tax payers. NOT hiding and driving around in patrol cars.
How’s the crime in Cali. You are correct exactly what a female cop is for..
California is world renown for their homeless
Very sad to see this happening all over. There needs to be a change.
America 🇺🇸 Need Workers Not Thinker Or Thinking Society of Adult 😢😢😢
We need more cops please cause metro trains inside smells like restroom from the park😷🤢🤢
This was a good story. Thanks for producing it. Chapeau to the Sheriffs.
They sleeping 😴 😊
It seems like the normal people aren’t traveling on the trains and buses there now, much different than before.
lots of normal people rige the Expo line
It was way better in 2007. I don't ever even remember seeing sheriff's or much with security around the train stations in Santa Monica.
@@DigitalMediaPatriots There were no Train stations in SM in 2007-- it didn't fully open until 2016... and typically you don't see Sheriffs on the train in the clip-- the footage there is from the last train of the night which is around 1:30 am
The normal people are commuting during the day not at night. The night owls are almost all homeless.

Santa Mónica is easy. Try to do it in the blue line, or the orange line. You'll need the national guard.,😂
General Metro RIDERS ( sane / insane ) with BULKY items should be RESTRICTED boarding Bus / train as Disquise / RUSE for Dangerous material that may possibly be with Cell phone switch DETONATOR .? ?
"C'mon, let's go. Can't sleep here." Then the deputies walk away. The druggy uses his stall tactics and goes to another car. Deputies Grade = C-
Good job…she wants to break the rules; there are penalties…no drugs…
I had to move out of state. Couldn't go to work each day without the Homeless begging for $ each day at the BART Stations
I love this, great video. Those cops are awesome.
I genuinely do not understand. What is the purpose of the pants down around the knees?
Many are mentally ill and self medicate by doing drugs. Worrying about your clothing or hygiene are not a priority.
“There’s a his across the street of you want to go to sleep” talk about kicking the can down the road
I think it's interesting that they're suggesting they get onto another bus (Line 720) to keep warm
Addiction is Jedi Mind Game of Being Homeless Crisis 😂😂
“You shouldn’t be walking here at night”
Like that’s silly, like, how are we going to make any money?
Lets open more borders.......
Hey I just want to say I think it's pretty good that they step up security on the train and all that but they should take some extra security off and put on the street where you needed to I mean it's a damn shame and you got to have to hold the sheriff for us protect the train because people want to sleep and spray paint and destroy it that's sad why I can't know when people just ride the train go to where they got to go and that's it you know why waste or police force
On the train when we need it on the street too
Those 2 girls are nuts to walk that area but whatever
If Meteo are unable to stop them boarding why not just reserve and limit a car just for them
Hotel on wheels.
what are they doing. The homeless people are still taking the whole trip free and….leave This is very unfair to us who pay the fair and sometimes still unable to find a seat available
I don't like the way these two race through the cars leaving before all passengers are cleared. Other officers wait until everyone is off and walking to the exit😅
I love these videos. Wish I found your content sooner !

Question: why does the train stop short, than goes that extra 10ft…..
Thank you for letting us know what is going on.
they've been doing this for years on the last train of the night (around 1:30 am ) I guess they decided to make a reality show of it .

I spend 4 hours on this train 5-6 days a week from Noho to this Spot. And finally… something is being done. Mar Vista warned about this issue 20 years ago while building the expo. “make better choices.”
Have good day 🍺
1:12 Cute puppy!
What a sad state of affairs. Revelations is near
I'm curious to see how long this lasts.
Been going for awhile , was down there a some months ago. Fare inspectors make sure you pay the fare or you don't ride.
Those girls are runaways. They need to do more than just talk to them
Na man 😂 they going to their boyfriends house bet you anything they affiliated with gang members and coming back from east la or whereever and now they don’t want help cause I bet they lied saying they where staying at each others house
Why do all homeless people wear hoods on their heads?

Living it up at the Hotel California!
It’s like the walk of the zombies in Santa Monica now. Looking more like San Francisco. They need to get more control there!!!
At the end of the day, the homeless community has way more to teach to the police then the police have to offer the homeless.... Former resident Santa Mohican now living in a mansion on the East coast of US.
The sheriff is telling the homeless to take the bus, it rides all night! Can someone tell me, who is monitoring the buses? They just shifted the problem to the bus company 😮
Oh the poor doggie, it should have a huge yard to play in, plenty of food and snacks, and a fluffy doggie bed to rest its little head.
LASD is so patient
He’s doing his job, anyhow.
Third world countries are safer than the ostensibly wealthy Santa Monica at night.
Thank you for the information about this program
These trains are for taxpayers not people, that don't want to work.
How much is a single ticket fare? It’s $2.25 in Chicago with a free transfer.
1.75 one way. 3.25 round trip. Transfers are free to other metro train/subway lines. Metrolink is separate.
Its free! No one is checking fare payment (like they used to aboard trains and platforms). And, all the drivers are instructed by the MTA Board to allow free passage to anyone. So, you can pay the stated fare, but can also ride free if you game the system like most of these losers do. Reportedly, they will require proof of payment to LEAVE a train platform, but lets be real, who will enforce that 24/7?
Its a joke. No one is enforcing fare payments. As long as the government subisdizes the L.A. Metro system, the board members don't give a damn about fare skippers and homeless riders loitering the buses, trains, and platforms.
@@HM-uf1lv Not true. I'm Black and gay and homeless and metro gave me a ticket for not having fare on my tap card as I thought I could "sneak the system" as you say.. I'm not gonna pay the fee as I can't afford it, but I now have low income tap card/LIFE program as a result; but it is not free. I'm not in the damn mood today.
Santa Monica used to be nice safe it a shame What it's turned into

Nice video 📷 you did😅 hope u like messages
I always feel sorry for the dog's.
Well done!
This is what all MTA Baord Members must watch! They never will, because they all know this is the sad state of affairs aboard all of their rollng stock. The only resolution is a class-action lawsuit vs LA Metro to finally make them accountable for the damage they allowed over the past five years! The MTA Baord instructs the drivers to allow non-paying passage and not enforce the rules (which are written inside the buses). The decrepid conditions are the 'norm' nowadays and the MTA Board uses this as an excuse to do nothing eluding to it as a public mental health crisis. What!? The MTA Board created the health and safety issues due to lax leadership. Day and night, every bus and train is a rolling homeless shelter now.
Only reason why the police are being increased is for the upcoming Olympics (a waste of tax monies) a few years away, as it will take that long to gradually rid the system of trouble.
The deputies are to be commended, because I would never have the patience for drug use, disobedience, and 'gaming' the system by these individuals which...by the way... 100% put themselves into homeless situations.
Sorry if this hurts your feelings, but I don't give a damn about people who abuse the social system, don't want to work, and yet feel they are owed everything without breaking a drop of sweat.
I was born in the Midwest suburbs of Winnetka, IL and i love trains a lot with a passion especially the light rails, subway trains and commuter trains. I wish it was more sheriffs on CTA trains to stop the smoking and vaping. It seems like the homeless people and drug addicts in the state of California doesn't want to get off the trains when they are out of service for tonight. My husband hate taking the Red Line to go home when he was living on the Southside of Chicago so he would take Metra like I do when I go home, he calls it dirty Red.
These 2 cops R like so considerate and highly thoughtful they really took their oaths w/ alot of sincerity.
