For most of the world, a beginner bike is a 125cc or perhaps a 250, intermediate riders would likely get a 650, or in a country like New Zealand, where I live, 85HP is perfectly adequate for most situations. Oh, and the new Aprilia as well, what about that?
Regarding the fact that the Triumpf Trident und Honda CB650R cost exactly the same in Europe, what do you think is the better bike, if the price isn't an issue?
Taste My Custard Yeah, I’m really looking forward to the reviews. Should be within a month or so, I’d guess. Supposed to be in showrooms in late January, so I’m guessing they’ll do a big press launch for it soon to get some buzz out there..
My only experience is several years on a 250 honda Baja... Wonder if I can step up to a 660 like the Trident. Looks fantastic though I have to say... I'm 183cm, this bike looks quite small right?
LoL, I prefer the brands with the larger dealer networks. They seem to be more reliable, easier to repair, and easier to find parts. The Triumphs look impressive but I don't think I would buy one.
Yammie is the first and only person so far whom I've heard saying that he likes the new MT-07 design, I saw people on social media shitting on it left, right and center when it was first unveiled
The twin XSR700 Trident triple & the CB650R 4 cylinder is pretty much the same market place. Just pick how many cylinders you want. But triumph make a handsome looking bike.
at the moment it looks like Australia is only going to get the learner 50hp version. ☹ in Europe, you can upgrade to the 80hp when you're eligible to ride it, but here they think that the under-powered version is the only way to go...I hope they change their minds, because I was really interested in the stronger version of this bike!
Pretty funny fact. In Mexico, the Trident is priced at about 9800 USD while the CB650R kept its price of about 9400 USD so here the Honda definitely beats the Triumph, especially if they bring the 2021 version. I guess Triumph doesn’t distribute directly here so they end up adding the distributors’ share to the price, which is just sad
It's going to be about $1000 cheaper than the new 2021 MT-09 too so yeah it is priced well below that category. This bike gets more attractive every day!

This bike looks awesome and I will have to see if there is a Triumph dealer near me come January. I have been toying with the idea of getting a Street Triple, but wasn't sure if I could justify the price or the performance of the bike when it would be used for general commuting on the pothole covered roads we have here in Michigan. I know it will probably never happen, but I wish Triumph would make a 450cc triple cylinder motorcycle that sits somewhere between a dual sport, a supermoto, and a naked bike, and that weighs less than 350 pounds fully fueled and ready to ride. Kind of like if the Tiger 800 and the Street Triple 675 had a baby. Something that would be nimble and agile enough to slip through city traffic on a daily commute while still being comfortable on the highway, but could carve country back roads and pop wheelies on the weekends (and even hit gravel and fire roads with appropriate tires). Most dual sports feel a little sketchy on the highway, and most standard naked bikes feel a bit squirrelly on gravel, so a 450cc triple that could bridge that gap would pretty much be a unicorn for me. Oh well, a guy can dream.
I like the trident but it has worst brakes and less HP than the cbr650 and here in europe are at the same price tag so is hard to chose wich one im gonna take.
The big difference is in how the power is delivered. I had my eye on a CB650R, but having to wind it up over 10,000 RPM to get to the power would get annoying after a while. The Trident will have its power much lower down, making it more useable to my mind.
@@RichardsModellingAdventures Right you are; Triumph has also done it on their new Rocket 3 and T120 Scramblers. That said, BSA, Ariel, and heritage Triumphs rarely produced tanks with exposed pinch-welds. And, if they did, owners used to pound and grind them out of sight. The more recent trend to mass produce cheap exposed pinch-weld tanks is an unfortunate cost saving measure. In the opinion of many, the cost is greater than the saving; it makes the product look like a cheap looking tin-toy.
MSRP doesn't mean anything these days. My local Triumph dealer wants a non-refundable deposit and is "thinking" the OTD price will be "around" $10k for this bike.
@@Boksburg1982 that may be just the start (ADM); when going to OTD price they can disguise additional ADM by charging high fees like "Documentation", etc.
Hello Yammie. Specs are specs but I think there should be a street comparison with bikes around it's category before declaring that it's king of its class. Also, it seems that the Trident is not meant to carry a passenger for a comfortable ride. Am I wrong? Is there an optional pillion seat?

$8000, most bang for the buck. 80 horsepower snd 417 pounds is not a beginner bike, more 2nd bike or intermediate bike. Triples are CROSS PLANE engines. Bidirectional quick shifter very unique for $8000. Triumph is. Premium, European bike vs Honda’s/Yamaha’s. The later are on every corner and 4000 mile service intervals. Triumph hit a home run!!!!

I’ve been looking forward to first ride videos of this bike. It’s definitely at the top of my list right now. I’m in no rush as we go into winter so I have acouple months to make up my mind. I love the look and size of this tho
Looks alone are not enough to justify spending all that money on the Trident. After a few years that's when a solid customer review would be required. Time will tell. There's going to be a lot of guinea pigs out there with their beloved Tridents. I'll wait a few years till I know for sure whether it's a good investment or not. Like all brand new road vehicles, there's always going to be imperfections that will need to be ironed out. When it achieves a good solid reputation, then I'll take an interest.

Hey Yammie, how about cb650r and Trident sitting at the same price tag? Here in Poland these bikes are priced with about 60 USD difference, Honda being that bit more expensive.
Which one would you choose or recommend given the above?
Siema!
Sounds like a winner!! Time for a test RIDE!! 😎
I've started looking around to jump from my touring cruiser to a sport bike, and when I saw the release of this bike and now this video I may just have to pick this one up🍻
I'm in the market for a triumph tiger 900 for touring. My only concern is whether a triumph is as reliable as a Honda?
Nope
Not even close, probably the opposite of reliable, the triumph should come with a set of tools 🤣
That's like asking if a tvr sigaris will be as reliable as a Mazda mx5. Literally two very different levels. Triumph make cool toys, honda builds seriously dependable vehicles for everyday people
If you had to choose between the Trident vs CB650R, and cost difference wasn't an issue, which would you go for?
I'd like to try out the triumph
Probably honda if I wanted to go fast. For commuting triumph
Good post, YN! I appreciate your appraisal on these things. British aesthetics are always most pleasant to the eye. Although I can't ride anymore (bad hip), no one can take my memories away, going all the way back to my Lil' Indian w/a Briggs 5hp. But my last machines were the Kaw.ZX1400R, and the Yam.RaiderS. Being a little guy, I'm sure some who saw me riding thought to themselves: "Hey! That kid stole his dad's bike! :^)
I’ve been torn between the xsr700 and vitpilen 701 for my next bike, but this thing has me pumped!
You won't be popping those wheelies though engine is too smooth
Is it a good beginners bike
For most of the world, a beginner bike is a 125cc or perhaps a 250, intermediate riders would likely get a 650, or in a country like New Zealand, where I live, 85HP is perfectly adequate for most situations. Oh, and the new Aprilia as well, what about that?
RS660 is the best bike on the market in 30 years
Between this and the Cb650r. Such a hard decision! First bike any recommendations would be appreciated.
The Trident name (750 triple or T100 &1/2) was synonymous with "too little - too late". But what a difference 50 years makes!
Regarding the fact that the Triumpf Trident und Honda CB650R cost exactly the same in Europe, what do you think is the better bike, if the price isn't an issue?
Right now theyre very comparable. After 5 years youll wish you had the honda.
cant wait to see the first test rides on this bike to see how it compares on the road
Taste My Custard Yeah, I’m really looking forward to the reviews. Should be within a month or so, I’d guess. Supposed to be in showrooms in late January, so I’m guessing they’ll do a big press launch for it soon to get some buzz out there..
Just put a deposit on the new Triumph Trident. Can’t wait! Beautiful looking bike!
My only experience is several years on a 250 honda Baja... Wonder if I can step up to a 660 like the Trident. Looks fantastic though I have to say... I'm 183cm, this bike looks quite small right?
That bike looks Tiny. I’d feel like a bear on a unicycle on that thing.
Ever seen a grom?
Looks like a pocket bike.
Yeah I have the same question... How tall are you?
I was phoning dealerships and Triumph dealership priced Trident660@$10k out the door versus 2020 MT07@$8100 out the door. Which one would you suggest?
I like the way the the Tank knee indentations are higher than the riders knees...
hi Yammie.. in my country Cb650r pricing only few hundreds more compared to Trident, which one will be more preferable if you in my position?
I'd prefer the Honda CB650r or Go bigger with the Yamaha MT-09.
Why?
@@abhishekshah5961 cuz the man got rocket balls.....
Such a nice everyday commute bike.... beautiful
LoL, I prefer the brands with the larger dealer networks. They seem to be more reliable, easier to repair, and easier to find parts. The Triumphs look impressive but I don't think I would buy one.
CB1000r is awesome 😎
@@rocketrollsvlogs7625 u would not be able to handle the 09
Yammie is the first and only person so far whom I've heard saying that he likes the new MT-07 design, I saw people on social media shitting on it left, right and center when it was first unveiled
I like the new look. Personally I found the previous mt07 hideous looking. Just my opinion.
Yammie love the classical music in the background!
It's going to sell like hotcakes. And so it should.
The twin XSR700 Trident triple & the CB650R 4 cylinder is pretty much the same market place. Just pick how many cylinders you want. But triumph make a handsome looking bike.
at the moment it looks like Australia is only going to get the learner 50hp version. ☹
in Europe, you can upgrade to the 80hp when you're eligible to ride it, but here they think that the under-powered version is the only way to go...I hope they change their minds, because I was really interested in the stronger version of this bike!
The Triumph Trident has all the bike press going crazy, this is the bike to buy in 2021 !
you look like the default character in every fallout game
he also boots in vault triumph
It's going to be about $1000 cheaper than the new 2021 MT-09 too so yeah it is priced well below that category. This bike gets more attractive every day!
the Mt09 is a whole different kind of bike. Only common thing is the number of zylinders
@@redo1dr I hope they add cruise control
@@drewmorg. it has 6-axis IMU, riding modes, quickshifter and blipper stock, complete alluminum frame, tft, traction control, wheelie control, lean sensitive ABS and TC, and that gorgeus 3-zyl engine with fully adjustable suspension for not much money. Cruise control only in the SP, tho :/
@@redo1dr Thanks for the re-cap! I meant cruise control on the Trident. Yes the SP model will be very nice indeed for the MT-09! Cannot wait for the specs on the 2021 Tracer 900!!!! Hope it comes with cruise control standard, it should!
@@drewmorg. the tracer does, the trident does not have cruise control.
Here in Ph there's just a 40USD difference in the price. With almost the same price tag i think 1extra cylinder (plus power) will be more favorable.
I love that you got Chopin playing in the background
Amazing video! Cheers
This bike is way more likely the change the game than that RS660 Aprilia you went off about a few weeks back
Damn right!
I wonder how great of a salesman he can be if triumph got him
opinions on this being a good first bike after your euro cat A test?
I like the trident but it has worst brakes and less HP than the cbr650 and here in europe are at the same price tag so is hard to chose wich one im gonna take.
The big difference is in how the power is delivered. I had my eye on a CB650R, but having to wind it up over 10,000 RPM to get to the power would get annoying after a while. The Trident will have its power much lower down, making it more useable to my mind.
@@SimonJessey that's not how the cbr650r is to ride though. I feel like you're trying to tell people which bike is better when you haven't rode either
Please note how Triumph has hidden the tank’s pinch-weld; brilliant. Now, if they could only do the same on their retro/classic models . . .
Honda did this on the CB1100
@@RichardsModellingAdventures Right you are; Triumph has also done it on their new Rocket 3 and T120 Scramblers. That said, BSA, Ariel, and heritage Triumphs rarely produced tanks with exposed pinch-welds. And, if they did, owners used to pound and grind them out of sight. The more recent trend to mass produce cheap exposed pinch-weld tanks is an unfortunate cost saving measure. In the opinion of many, the cost is greater than the saving; it makes the product look like a cheap looking tin-toy.
I'm wondering if the Trident's triple can top the MT-07 each with Akrapovic pipes...
The triple will sound better
@@chrishart8548 I’m not so sure, the MT-07 engine with an Akrapovic is one of the best sounds out there
@@chrishart8548 mt 07 com akrapovic tem muito melhor sonoridade , better sound
@@ponraul1221 yes is true, the sound the mt 07 is fenomenal , fantastic,.. and very very strong
MSRP doesn't mean anything these days. My local Triumph dealer wants a non-refundable deposit and is "thinking" the OTD price will be "around" $10k for this bike.
My local dealer has already jacked the price $1000 above MSRP.
@@Boksburg1982 that may be just the start (ADM); when going to OTD price they can disguise additional ADM by charging high fees like "Documentation", etc.
FZ07 26,500 valve intervals. But I do love Triumphs
Please can you review the Aprilia Shiver 900.....I really enjoy your videos...thanks!
Waiting for the Aprilia Tuono 660 that's rumored to come.
Hello Yammie. Specs are specs but I think there should be a street comparison with bikes around it's category before declaring that it's king of its class. Also, it seems that the Trident is not meant to carry a passenger for a comfortable ride. Am I wrong? Is there an optional pillion seat?
Looks killer.. In NZ and Australia, we do have the street tripple 660 as the entry level LAMS bike for the triumph fans.. Regarded one of, if not the best lams bike available..
The fit and finish of these Triumphs is just fantastic.
The Honda has a quality aluminium frame and swing arm. A $1000 premium is quite an ask but may still be worth it .
the cb650 f model is only 8200. stupid yammie was talking about the r model being 9k. he thinks he knows everything.
I absolutely agree. If a person can swing the kind of money the Triumph cost, .... go for the extra and get the Honda. You'll be riding trouble free for years for not that much more cash.
@@timsretirementjourney8323 its literally $100 diffence trident 660 vs honda cb650r
I believe the Street Twin is a great entry level bike with a 900cc, mildly tuned engine. It is also not a tall bike.
I love the street scrambler but its basically the same bike with a different exhaust.
Are the electrics okay on them or will you have to take it in and get them fixed up?
@Yammie waiting on your test ride review vid before I’m really sold into this bike. 😁
Im looking to get this as my first bike im excited
Can it be lowered about an inch and a bit? 31.7 is a little tall for me.
In about a year from now i'll most likely be upgrading from my Yamaha R3. I absolutely love my choice for first motorcycle. The Trident is definitely on my list. I would like to see the new MT 09 in person. I have a few shops within an hour that carry Yamaha and Triumph. Cannot wait!
It's a great bike for the price but i'm not a big fan of the tft. would have preferred a screen like street triple.
The 2020 z650 is a very good and fun bike,i love mine and think is one of the best bang for the bucks in the 650 categorie.
yammie thinks he knows everything. he does not.
That TFT on the new Z's is pretty legit. I think the round cluster fits the character of this bike much better though.
Vehicles are not an investment.
