If I ever was to recommend a Seiko 5 it would be this. It’s very far removed from the SKX , it’s not trying to look like a diver . Great stuff Dave! Ps! Take the day/date away you’ve got yourself a real beaut!;)

I have this watch with the blue dial. One of my favorites. I don't really care for bracelets, but I have left it on because it looks so great! I highly recommend this over the "dive" style sister watch. Seiko has an original design aesthetic, and it really shows with the DressKX.

I have to take time and just appreciate how you actually zoom out when you show your wrist shots. Almost every other TH-camr sticks their whole wrist 2 inches from the lens and it’s so hard to tell perspective. Love this watch BTW. I have the black version and I thinks it’s killer!

I'm wearing the gray one with a bright red leather strap. It's a great value proposition and a quality watch. One thing that is particularly satisfying is winding the watch. It has a large crown and just feels solid when I wind it. I like a day date because I have to write the date several times a day.

It's interesting how personal this is - I'm not a fan of the gold dial decorations (logo, hands, etc) with the silver case, but I really like the SRPE55 as a sleeper. 40mm is a sweet spot. Send the stock bracelet to metal recycling though.

Bought my 7548 in the 70s, it's now covered in dents and scratches, wear it every day on building sites, still keeps good time.

Hey Dave, love the channel! My watch collection has been sitting in its box for the last year or so. I love them, but last watch I bought is a Seiko Brights with radio signal which never goes out of time, handy in Japan,, where I abode too. So it barely leaves my wrist.
Saying all of that, your channel is inspiring me to get back into any collection, so thanks. My collection is mainly used Japanese, lots of old style Seiko 5s, a few Orient and some Casio classics. All the best.

Loved the video, I 100% agree that this is Seiko's most exited recent release. Heritage never used to be something that I was concerned about but as I've moved through my watch collecting journey I've started to appreciate it a great deal, sure you can get a "San Martin" or something similar with better specs but this is completely original, from a brand packed with heritage and every single part is crafted in-house by Seiko themselves. I've previously owned a blue SRPE53 and added a domed sapphire crystal, Strapcode bracelet and signed crown. I've since sold the watch and purchased several other higher send Seiko's including a Grand Seiko and I still find myself looking at this model, it's just a great overall package.

  • @adk7962
    @adk7962 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Hands down the best value Seiko you can buy in my opinion. I know the purists were upset that the SRPD was not a true dive watch so this solves that problem. It’s not trying to be a dive watch. Just a nice looking sport watch or GADA watch.

Gotta love the dress kx, I brought my one a few year's ago and swapped out the crystal to a domed sapphire. That bracelet is folded linked trash so I replaced it with a strapcode Super-o Boyer. The watch had a job to do, in order to complete my suit and tie for my mum and dad's funerals, as I didn't think one of my g shocks was appropriate wrist attire for that occasion. I was very surprised at the amount of modding parts available for this watch.

My collection was all quartz and solar because I thought for the money, I preferred the accuracy. The SRPE 53 was the first mechanical in my collection, I have since bought a few other mechanical Seiko models (including the '59 Alpinist you feature on your hoodie), but the SRPE is my daily driver. I think I am going to add a domed sapphire crystal, but otherwise, it's the perfect watch (for me).

Great vid, as usual, Dave! Thanks for all this great content! I totally agree with all the pros and cons of this watch... I got more into watches in early 2020 with an Explorer (I friggin' dove right in. lol), but wanted something similar to that Explorer for day-to-day yet won't hurt as much if I bang it up a bit, so ended up with both an SRPE55 (silver version with black face) and this SRPE57 in your video (which I have on wrist for past couple days, coincidentally)... note to potential owners that the gold around the markers are more prominent than they appear in your video (not necessarily a bad thing, but they're more noticeable in person). I'm quite easy on my watches and have had no mishaps with the Hardlex yet. For the price point, it's a no-brainer (I got mine on sale at TheBay in Canada for around 30% off MSRP). The simple elegance is striking. The case size works great on my skinny 6.25cm wrist as well.

I have been looking at this one since it came out. Your video has now convinced me to buy one and a jubilee strap from strap code.😂

I like this. Great Modding Scene. I love Seiko.

Weirdly enough, without the bezel, it comes off like different style of adventure watch. It works for me. Didn't consider the modding aspect either.

Agree, it kinda feels more like a field-style / climbing type of watch

The DressKX is my favourite Seiko at any price point: iconic, modern, unpretentious, mature, practical, versatile, just cool. I guess Seiko is already regretting not having this under the Prospex label at stupid Prospex prices.

Hardlex isn't that bad, I've worn mine almost daily for 2 years.. hundreds of hours of manual labour around my old house and the crystal is clear as day. Glare is pretty minimal as well.
The steel bezel has fared worse than the glass.. but still looks decent.
Great watch for sure. It does everything well.

Nice review thanks for the modding link I can use for my Seiko snzg9 ! I would certainly have bought this first if it has been available. *** That amazon link says automatic movement with manual winding BUT also Lithium batteries required ???

Good looking watch. Just a real solid daily watch. Think it is the same watch as my 2020 jdm version with a blue dial and bezil.

I have the SRPE61 with the brushed bezel, with an aftermarket bracelet. It's been great!

The best of the bunch. I have mine with a grey striped (Bond) nylon strap.

I own one and it's modded with the Islander Watch sapphire crystal and bracelet. I got an "S" crown from Namoki. I didn't do the mods myself, the local Seiko AD owner did it for me. The price for everything was woth it.

Oh, and I forgot: Namoki also has a stainless steel (no seethrough) caseback (made for the SKX, but will fit), the advantage being that the watch gets slimmer by a millimeter and will sit more close to the wrist.
