Glad to have helped. I removed the roof today again to remove the intake manifold for cleaning. It only took 25 minutes and that included a bit of mucking around finding tools. Far easier than it should be.
Jeff thank you so much for posting this. I almost understand how the top works now. I hope your top fabric will need to be replaced before mine so you can make a video of that process as well....... I asked my dealer about it this week and they have no clue....
@@jeffrichardsoncardiy I did not ask for roof specifically. I was there for EVAP leak and they found it for $325 (diag). Told me the grommet on the pump that attached to the charcoal canister is not available separately and quoted $1200 for charcoal canister replacement. I got it re-seated and bough some big heat-shrink on top to fix it once and for all. It was triggering 0456 but so far so good. BTW Porsche in the US have satisfaction program where they replace free of charge EVAP pumps but not rubber seals/grommets or canisters. Fells like a trap where they create a problem for you to go back and try to figure out why it's now triggering 0456. Also they found PCV hose leaking oil and that was also $1200 quote. I will be doing roof and PCV at the same time to make it easier and will also film the video with timer showing how much it takes first time with no experience and we will compare it to what they quoted. I'm not against paying to the dealer but when it comes to the US Dealers they're cranking up part costs to hide labor because I paid only $150 for new OEM PCV hose shipped to my doors. Out of $1200 that's $1050 of labor for just PCV.
@@Beyond_Repair US$1200 to replace the PCV hose is silly. The nice thing is you will be removing the roof, so it will make the PCV hose easier. If you are half handy, you can save a fortune on repairs like this that are, as you will find, pretty simple.
Hi Jeff I need some help with my convertible roof on my 2013 , 981 boxter when open is selected windows go down ,roof unlatches ,retracts to 3/4. Open , then stops ,with side flaps up.then tried to close it ,it goes to 1/2 closed and stops.I have a icarsoft Porsche v2 obd2 scanner which says no faults.I then go to ctm (convertible roof module )on the scanner ,reset fault and all’s good able to fully retract the top then close it completely. Till next time when the whole process starts again.any ideas on what it could be? Thanks joe braganza.
G'day Joe, I don't have much experience with diagnosing the electronics of this roof. To diagnose you really need to use PIWIS to get access to the errors and then go from there. Without being there, PIWIS connected and playing with it I wouldn't know where to start. If you're on Planet9 or a forum like that I'd post what the problem is. Very good place to get help from loads of people.
Hi Jeff, Mate I have a 2013 Boxster 981. My convertable roof will not work. The front claw retracts and the windows go down that is it. This started happening once I had a flat battery. I used a slow charger to charge and the next day the roof wouldn't open. Do you think this is a micro switch problem to one of the motors? The error message states an open circuit problem. Any advice or assistance you can give would be great.👍
Is the error coming from the car or is it from PIWIS? I unfortunately have no experience with electrical issues with this roof. More than happy to help if I can. First thing I would do is disconnect the battery, wait a few minutes and then connect and try again.
If so, it's probably an issue with the microswitch inside the locking hook mechanism. I've never pulled this apart but I've seen videos online where someone discovered where the microswitch gets bent and doesn't register correctly when it's locked or unlocked.
@@jeffrichardsoncardiy that's mighty impressive. I have a 981 BS. I actually put it up for sale (consignment) but then had a change of heart. It's a great vehicle. I've had some 911s, and had thought about going back, but I've managed to get that out of my system :)

Thanks Jeff did post on planet 9 though I didn’t get any replies,stumbled across a post from about 2014 called 2013 Boxter s :Top control Fault it covers my senerio to the tee.looks like it could be the pillar micro switches.

The error is from PIWIS. I have tried the disconnect battery etc still does not work.
The car error reports convertable hood not in final position.

how much does the whole roof weigh?
Don't know exactly, but I'd predict about 20 kg. Maybe a little more. It's surprisingly light.

Is it possible to operate the roof manually? Can't operate the motor. To get it up and remove it
