I don't consider myself to be a baker, but this recipe really turned out wonderfully! Thank you for creating healthier options to snack on- most appreciated!
I baked it with a few corrections.Instead of rice flour, I added coconut flour, excluded sweet ingredients altogether and replaced it with dry cranberries without sugar.I added lemon zest and cinnamon. Next time I’ll add walnuts. Thank you for the recipe 🙋🏼♀️♥️.
That's amazing! It's really great to know the recipe turned out good with the tweaks you made. I've tried using coconutu flour for my baked goodies, but haven't really worked for me, I think I should give it another try.
If you’re not a fan of peanut butter, this recipe is great with almond butter too - if you also add a teaspoon of almond extract to the batter and then just a splash to the frosting, it’s basically a healthy marzipan-flavored cake.
You can always sneak in some whole wheat or spelt flour for some fiber. You're one of the few Europeans who like peanut butter, which is no different from any other plant butter spread. These days, my protein sources are mainly from poultry, eggs, cheese and Spanish peanuts. The Japanese make a variety of sweet and savory items using beans, just like we do in the US with peanuts.
That's right, using spelt flour would be even better than rice, just love the texture the rice flour gives to the cake. I've made chocolate brownies using black beans to boost the protein content, so adding some mashed beans to the cake batter would also be a nice option...
@@HowToCookSmarter... I specifically mentioned spelt because I used some over the weekend to make 5cm thick Belgian waffles in my new gadget, requiring two or three extra minutes to cook through.
@@HowToCookSmarter ... It was my first time using the waffle maker so I'm still in the learning phase. They were pretty good---really thick though, more a cake in the center than a true crisp version like toast is. It's OK because I knew what I was buying. I have a collection of flours --whole wheat, spelt, almond, gluten free blend ---that I played mad scientist with, using a little of each. Although, I didn't think to pulverize oats into flour. Hi Saha! I love all your healthy alternative cakes, they make me feel a little more 'virtuous' than if I had the less healthy versions and with the added bonus that they are just as delicious as their counterparts! As ever, TFS and have a good week! 👍💖
Hi Hazel! I also feel excited with every new recipe, I think there's no real limits with being creative in the kitchen, and with these healthier cakes it's definitely more than just a whipping up something more nutritious, as I repeat quite often healthy food is not boring at all. Enjoy your week, take care!
I wonder if peanut butter powder would work for those that think peanut butter is too oily to bake with🤔, but i think the oil in peanut butter is ok because baking cakes requires oil sometimes so I think it works out well. This recipe looks good! Will try soon!
Yes! Our favorite You Tube Chef strikes again with another winner. This one will become a fan favorite in our house with all the peanut butter lovers. (The only ingredient I don't have is rice flour--any substitution suggestions?) Thanks so much, Sasha. Your creativity knows no bounds! 👍 🥰
Hi Lauren, I'm glad you're going to give it a try with this recipe, you know this rice flour is only here to make the cake more fluffy, but whole wheat flour, or almond flour would also do the work. I appreciate all of your kind support as always! Take care guys!
@@HowToCookSmarter UPDATE! I made this today for our Memorial Day dessert, and it is every bit as good as Sasha claims, as long as you really like peanut butter. I didn't have rice flour, so I used 1/2 c. of spelt flour. The cake is tasty on its own, but the peanut butter frosting really enhances the flavor. My husband is planning to try it for breakfast, and I plan to make it for my grandkids the next time we visit. Thanks so much!
@@laurenvicker4826 That's great news Lauren! So glad you enjoyed the cake guys, hope the grandkids will like it too. Thanks for sending your update!

It's great to have you here Michele! I think there's more room to improve this recipe, but I was pretty happy with the results, just a good way to use up some peanut butter. I appreciate all of your support, have a great week too!
Made it today with tahini, oat and whole wheat flour, honey and mashed banana, it’s perfect, also added cinnamon, but its not sweet, can i add more honey or better granulated sweetener?
Wow, eating Cake for breakfast and being nutritious at the same time, you're definitely ROCKIN' it Sasha!😋👍At minute 1:01 I just had to freeze the image, Maslac od Kikirikija nothing tops this yummy peanut butter or as we call it here in Mexico, Mantequilla de Cacahuate.🥜🥜
Glad you like the idea! That's right, peanut butter is definitely at the top of my list, not really the common thing here, but I devour it daily, just can't help myself. Just had a tbsp of pb for my breakfast this morning:)
It can stay at room temperature for about 2 days if the weather isn’t too hot ! After that, store it in the fridge ! If you don’t like cold cake, take out the amount you will eat a few hours before or if you have it for breakfast, take it out at night , in the morning you’ll find it just perfect ! Sure, peanut butter powder will lower the amount of calories, but it would be necessary to add a bit more applesauce or Greek yogurt.
I will definitely try this recipe.

I have to ask what can I sub the rice flour for 🙈
Have the same question ❓
More oat perhaps or wheat
I'm going to try chickpea flour...
Any flour will work, I use it for more fluffy texture, I would suggest whole wheat or spelt flour.
The frosting is interesting as well🎉Thank you!

Hello, will this recipe still work with nonfat greek yogurt? Or is full fat necessary? Thank you so much! 🙏❤
Nonfat Greek yogurt will do the work too.

Can I use tigernut flour instead of rice flour?
Sure, that would be fine.
Yes, this recipe slaps. Bake it. I personally add in milk protein ("It's Just" brand) for an extra protein boost.
Glad it works for you

Thanks!
Whats another option to use instead of rice flour? Can i use just all oat flour instead??
Sure, that would be fine too, but the cake will turn out less fluffy.
Yummmmm
And always deliver. 👌🙏🏻
Thanks, glad you like it!
Can protein powder still be used?
Sure, you can add some in place of rice flour.
Looks great
Thanks for watching!

Thanks!
Is there anything you can use instead of peanut butter? Almond butter maybe?
Sure, any kind of nut butter would work fine.
@HowToCookSmarter Just made it with almond butter, and it turned out great.
@@Michael-yr5oq That's great! Do you make your own almond butter, if so do you remove the skin before blending them?
@HowToCookSmarter I don't make my own. I just buy it from the shop.
Can I use nonfat greek yogurt?
Yes, that would be ok.
Love your recipes but could you pls suggest an alternative to applesauce.
Pear sauce
He suggested mashed banana or pumpkin puree as alternatives but may change the flavour of the cake slightly.
Butter, mashed banana or maybe coconut oil.
I've made a few of his recipes with butter when I didn't have apple sauce. It seems to work fine but has more calories.
You can even add some extra Greek yogurt or sour cream in place of applesauce. Glad you enjoy the recipes!
I couldn't find whole fat greek yogurt 😵 is it ok to use non fat?
Sure, that will be totally fine.

Peanut butter. One of my pet hates
For 331 calories per serving the protein at least supposed to be over 25 grams it’s not enough protein per serving and high in calories
There's no "supposed to be" protein rule with calories....its a cake...and 25 grams of protein in a cake would probably taste pretty tough.
