    I think I've seen all the q9u vids on TH-cam, and this was easily the most helpful. Thanks.

    Damn, that's a heck of a lot of gain needed on that. I had been waiting for this, but decided to swap my PodMic (which I needed a FetHead for) and upgraded to an EV RE320. I use that (on my Solo 3rd Gen) with no FetHead, sitting at about 2.00 o'clock on the Solo, and it's plenty loud and clear. Think I made the right choice in not waiting.

    Great review. I think the Q9U is one of the only mics I own that required a lot of EQ tinkering. It's an odd mic since it's heavy on the low frequency and it has an onboard rolloff switch that is too aggressive. The best settings I have for this mic is to only have the MID switch on and dumbing down the low frequencies manually via EQ, also taming the MIDs slightly. I think Samson could've used some extra time to perfect this mic, but other than that, with some major EQ work, the mic sounds awesome

    you can put the sm7b windscreen on the mv7 and it makes a HUGE difference

    I love the sound from the Q9U I don’t use any software I use usb to my iPad and just hit record it’s not AMAZING. But easier setup then hooking up my pod mic to my Scarlett then having to have the the camera connector dongle with a wall plug to get enough power for the Scarlett

    This mic should have included a 1/8 to 3/8 adapter in the box for microphone arm. Other than that, overall the fact that it is usb-c over the shure which is usb micro is a win for me. Ordering the q9u. Great video.

      @Gregory- How is your experience with this mic - Samson Q9U?

    • @Venomater2012
      @Venomater2012 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BhaskarNatarajan8055 Its good for podcasting and broadcast material. Definetly not for music. Kind of a dark microphone but I like it overall. I would recommend it over a blue yeti but if you don' t need sound rejection I would go with the elgato wave 3. If you need a usb/xlr dynamic this would be a good option. Just make sure to get a boom arm or mic stand to prevent hearing the banging from your desk and such. For a sound treated room the elgato wave and hyper x quadcast rgb make a great option unless you want to go xlr.

    I honestly love how Samson skips numbers, excludes numbers, or never mentions them again. Hahaha!
    Q1U - phased out, forgotten in time
    Q2U - solid entry level dynamic mic
    QEx - a secret service earpiece
    Q3 to Q8U - a fever dream

    Which mic would be overall better for usb, Q9U or MV7? I know the MV7 comes with software and who knows when the q9u will eventually release in the US.

    • @StreamGearTalk
      @StreamGearTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is a hard one for me, the MV7 sounds better vía usb as soplones to xlr. The motiv app software is nice and very helpful with its ability to add compression and eq (low pass/high pass). The Q9U sounds better via xlr as opposed to usb. The only drawback I found with Q9U via usb was having to control the mic gain through the pc. But, other than that it sounded great and I honestly find it hard to justify spending $50 more on software. One could simply use reaper plugins in obs and get compression and other effects for free.

    Hi. Thanks for this. I'm new to this stuff. I've narrowed it down to the Q9U using the USB directly to my computer, and the Rode podmic using the focusrite mixer. Any thoughts on which would sound better? Thanks! (oh, for spoken word only)

    • @StreamGearTalk
      @StreamGearTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey first off thanks for watching the video! Ok so I haven’t used the Røde podmic (ironically been wanting to buy one to test it). So I can make any comparison because it wouldn’t be an informed one and that would be unfair. From what I’ve heard from other reviewers it does sound like a good mic. Tricky thing is mics respond differently to different voices. So there’s a chance your voice will sounds better on the Q9U and vice versa. I think it’s gonna really come down to cost va quality va benefits for you. Assuming our prices are similar, podmic + focusrite = roughly $250, the Q9U alone is $200 and would save you $50 since you’ll be using it via usb. You can always use reaper plugins in obs or other editing software to do your post processing so there’s no major issues there. But based on my review I found the Q9U sounds better on xlr. Hope this helps feel free to reach out with any other questions.

      @StreamGearTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hellomeatrobots yea I see what you’re saying, in other mics around that range that I’ve used (rode procaster, MV7, Q9U) I think what differentiates it here are the mid boost and low cut switches, something I’ve only seen on the sm7b ( still diving into the world of mics). For anyone else reading your comments do you have a better recommendation at this price point?

    • @hellomeatrobots
      @hellomeatrobots 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StreamGearTalk TBH, I don’t think any dynamic mic much over $100 represents a good value for work like podcasting or TH-cam VO. Once you’re past the SM57/58 & AKG D5, diminishing returns is kicking in hard.

      @StreamGearTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2
