I bought a 100 pack of these last year based on your review since I agree with a lot of what you say and they were great. The 7 o'clock blades were the first blades that actually felt sharp and smooth while cutting my hair effortlessly. The sound of the hair being sliced is the cherry on top.
I have been wet shaving for about 8 months now. When I started I got a 50 blade variety pack. These blades were in it and are by far my favorite blade so far. The smoothness and sharpness makes this a great blade. The variety pack included Feather, Treet, Lord to name a few.
I just tried these for the first time. Using a Parker 66r razor, and Proraso soap. I'm still amazed at how quickly and cleanly it went through 4 days of whisker growth with no nicks or irritation
I'm new to wet shaving with a DE razor and I kept getting cuts and nicks all over the place. Shaving is a bloody experience for me, until I tried these Gillette 7 o'clock green super stainless today. They were so smooth and I didn't get a single nick or cut. The end result after 3 passes was very impressive too. My closest shave to date. Just amazing.
*Nice to see that adding an upward angle worked out for you Nick.* *I also learned that for the chin area, raising the skin up (via tucking your lips in) seems to make the hairs stick out further, and thus makes them easier to cut off with fewer passes.*
I'm a new DE shaver, trying out a few different blades. These are probably my favourites of the few I've tried so far. Smoother than the Astras that I'd say were similar sharpness
I'v been using these blades for a long time. Everything you've said about these blades is done on. I've tried all of the 7 O'clock blades and these are by far my favorite. Smooth, cuts wells, and last me four shaves. I have a sample of Cat O nine aftershave, but been a little wimpy in trying it. I just need to man up.
Fantastic blade. Pretty sharp but absolutely shines in the smoothness category. I have coarse hair and sensitive skin. I also shave every 3-4 days so by then my hair is pretty coarse. This blade is absolutely wonderful.
Next time you shave off camera, do your second pass going ear to nose direction on both sides of your face but add that upward angle so it's an XTG/ATG hybrid direction. You can probably get your shave as close as you're used to in 2 passes instead of 3. A couple months ago I started going from the corner of my jaw (below my ear) up towards my nose on each side during the 2nd pass, and go completely south to north in my mustache area so the razor can get all the hair just below the base of my nose. I haven't found a need for a full 3rd pass since doing it this way. Sometimes I do a cleanup just under my jawline and chin but that's about it. I have a very coarse beard and in the military so I need a presentable shave everyday, if it works for me it will probably work for most.
If you are thinking of these blades, I found that these were just as smooth as astra superior stainless (blue ) but sharper with a medium aggressive razor (Rockwell 6C, Blade exposure setting #4).
Not a bad blade overall. It is well-balanced in all the attributes whereby a blade can be assessed, which are sharpness, smoothness, durability and price/value. Some people seem to think that smoothness and sharpness are words used to describe different degrees of the same thing. How many times I've read "it is so smooth, it does not cut" or "this one is very sharp so it won't be nice on your skin". They're wrong. A blade can be sharp and smooth, not sharp but still smooth, sharp but rough and few very bad ones are dull and rough. Coming back to topic, I do not find these blades outstanding. They lack a little bit of sharpness and I've seen smoother ones. So far I've tried 5 blades. The Wilkinson Classics made in Germany, the BiCs Chrome Platinum, the Feathers, the Astras SP Green and these ones. The Wilkinsons are in my mind very similar to these, the BiCs are considerably rougher but also much sharper, the Feathers I feel them smoother than the BiCs and a tiny bit less sharp, which still makes them both sharper and rougher than the 7 O'clocks, but in any case I don't think it is worth it to pay the premium for this brand, and finally the Astra SP Greens. They are not as sharp as the BiCs or the Feathers but smoother than both and still sharper and cheaper than the 7 O'clocks being every bit as smooth. Just my 2 cents.
Using one of these now and when compared to the Astra Super Platinum, they are smoother and just as sharp. I'm using the same Merkur and Stirling soaps, too. I still have the Dorco ST301, Dorco Prime Platinum, Personna Med Prep, Personna Lab Blue, Personna Platinum (Israeli Red), Wilkinson Sword and Feather to go.
First blade I ever ordered. Got a 50 pack for $12 Used about 10 blades since January. Ordered a 100 pk just last night for $22 Our Canadian dollar seems to affect the price. By my calculations, I should be good for almost 2 years? I've got nothing to compare them to, but they're my favorite. I can get 3 - 7 (2 or 3 pass) shaves from them. Thanks for the review on them!
I can't find the rest of the 50 pack... Just started the 100 pack. Long story short, my razor and blades got put in storage when I moved a couple years ago. Thought they were stolen, nope. So I got used to growing a beard. Really wish I could experience different blades, but it looks like I've got a few more years worth of blades. Unless I start shaving with a new blade every time - I can get a ridiculous amount of shaves from these blades, I don't even keep track anymore. Definitely don't shave every day like I did back then 😅
This is the first ever shaving video I watched. Thanks Nick. Huge fan. Learned a lot from watching your videos. And spent a lot too! Haha. I love my Merkur 34C. I also have an Edwin Jagger DE89 and Parker Variant Adjustable that I like a lot too. As for blades, Personna Lab Blue, Astra SP, Gillette Wilkinson Sword and Gillette 7 O'clock Super Stainless work best for me.
Great review Nick. I think I have a sample pack of these and I've decided to give them a try. I also purchased a Chubby 2 based on your review and it's one of my favorite brushes. I recently bought a Razorock 2 band finest badger brush (24mm x 57mm) and I would recommend that to anyone that face lathers. It's only $24.99 so it's a real bargain.
I bought some of the 7 o'clock super stainless based on your review, and I absolutely love these blades which are fast becoming my favorite blades. Along with Astra Green superior Platinum and Shark Super Stainless. I always trust you reviews and I really appreciate the time you put into them. Many thanks.
Somehow I guess I never tried these before (think a long time ago I tried the green permasharp ones which weren't great). Loaded one up today in a Mercury 34C and it was a stellar combo. Sharp but smoother than my Feathers or Petsonna meds. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend these blades for sure.
Nice review👍, compared to the perma sharp stainless this 7'o clock super stainless seems a whole lot better, wondering how would the 7'o super stainless compare with perma sharp super as both as in similar price range
Aloha, Nick I recently got into safety razor shaving and I bought the as seen on tv safety razor. I think I need a more aggressive safety razor would the Merkur 34C be sufficient enough or would you recommend another one. Mahalo for the video's I have learned a lot. A Hui' Ho' Aloha.
Hi Nick, thanks for your work and reviews, awesome. I'm glad you like these blades. These are my go to blades, they just hit that sweet spot for me, when I started out I tried many different blades but it all came together when I discovered them and especially with the merkur 34c. my daily weapons of choice. I'm really pleased you like them, I bought them in bulk and have never looked back. Keep it up. Owen in New Zealand
From what I saw in this video, I'm really impressed with these too. The price point is very nice. My top 3 are: Polsilvers, Gillette Silver Blue, and feathers. Do you recommend buying a 5 pack or just spending the $15 and picking up a 100 pack? Also, have you noticed a difference on your posts have feel when you use the thayer's witch hazel?
+Abraham Villela I think that thayers witch hazel is good for my skin overall, perhaps not the best post shave - a little alcohol in my aftershave works well for me. But the witch hazel is some great stuff. I tend to go for 100 packs - better deal, you can usually find free shipping
Glad to see that these worked for you Nick, however when I tried these blades I have a very different experience. Every time I used them, I seemed to be getting a dull, rough, and and all around bad shave; so it's just weird to see that you had such a different experience. As they say, your mileage may vary! (Also, I did check and I was using the same one's you were, the Russian ones and not the ones made in India.)
hi was wondering if you have ever tried the supermax super stainless as I love them and i find them similar and much cheaper than gilette 7o'clock. I can't even find a review anywhere and there my favourite blade
Hey Nick. Thanks for all the great videos. I'm very new to the DE world. In fact, I just had my first shave yesterday. Let's just say that I've got some definite room for improvement. I purchased a Phinnaeus J's Shave Club razor off of Amazon recently. It's a super long handle and claims that it addresses a lot of complaints from other razors. So far, it has very nice reviews, although it's numbers are limited. It seems of high quality, but I have nothing to compare it to, so who knows. My question: When putting a blade into a razor, should it have a curvature to it when looking at the exposed blade when installed into the razor and tightened down? I assumed it would be straight, but what do I know? I didn't get a very close shave at all (after three passes) and had a few "weepers" that were pretty mild. Anyway, I'm just not sure how much of my disappointing shave had to do with my being a "newb", or if this curvature (looks like a frowny face) was part of it. Thanks again. Awesome info and videos. Luke
+Lucas Kirby Luke - congrats on the switch! Stick with it, my first DE shave wasn't that great. The blade should curve in the razor, pretty much all safety razors are designed this way, to give the blade a better angle to cut the hairs. Make sure you are using VERY light pressure while shaving - most new wet shavers use too much pressure
Hey Nick. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I've shaved a couple times since then and am definitely getting better! The "no pressure" advice is priceless! Just to clarify on my previous question about the "curvature". I meant that there is a curvature in this blade if you were to look at the loaded and secured, blade from left to right (example: your profile picture on your channel shows you looking at the blade. Not the side, but the actual blade itself). It literally has a curvature on the very ends. I'm just wondering if this is normal, as my face is still a little irritated and I don't know what's at fault yet; my "newbness", or the actual razor. I've got a sampler pack coming, but am using the 7 oclock yellows that my razor came with(your recent video really put that blade into perspective). Again, thanks for the awesome vids!
Thanks for the review. I knew that Russian 7 0'clock are fantastic. Waiting for your review of a yellow sharp edge blade. Also very interesting to know your opinion about 7 o'clock permasharp Indian comparing to a Russian green super stainless .
Do you use the fragrance oil based soaps or the essential oil based soaps from Stirling? Anyone got guidance on the differences & Pros & Cons between the two styles? Thanks.
May I ask if the stache will be taken down by the 34C itself? I always wanted to see you use a standard safety bar razor to tackle "heavy" beard growth.
Just ordered a couple hundred of these blades on your enthusiastic recommendation. Looking forward to getting them. Love the '70s porno stache, man. :)
As I've previously stated, my favorite is the Gillette Silver Blue and I really like the Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellows. Based on your review, I now have to pick up a pack or (100 pack) of the 7 O'Clock Greens. Since you don't perform an XTG pass on your neck, it's difficult to compare my shave to yours as that's where I'll get the occasional nick or two or 5. Why don't you try a pre-shave prep on the neck just for the XTG 2d pass. With the kind of lathering you usually do, it would probably cut down much of the irritation you feel. If you want to talk irritation, I have hairs growing down the neck to my collarbone. That XTG pass down there can really do some job on the skin if I'm not careful. There's nothing like that post shave hot and cold water splash if there's some irritation, then splashing on some witch hazel and an aftershave with a solid alcohol burn like Clubman VIBR or Clubman Regular, followed by a balm like Arko Ice Mint or Nivea Sensitive Cooling for men.
As soon as I start going against the grain with this razor I start getting a lot of nicks. But when I’m going with or across the grain it’s as smooth as butter. For me they are similar to the astra greens but not as good
The only Gillette 7 O'clock blades I've tried is the Yellow Perma-sharp. They are sharp but NOT smooth. I find the Gillette Silver Blues to be top notch sharp and smooth.
Hey Nick, I was wondering you could give me some advice or anyone else for that feels like they can help:). Im trying to get my dad into Safety razor shaving, because he gets terrible bumps and ingrown hairs. We've been trying it for a few weeks now but he still gets some bumps & irritation. He's using a merkur Classic 1904/06, Crown Shaving Co shaving cream, Simpson brush, & Gillette Silver Blue Blades. Do you think we should try different blades or do you think his form just needs work?
+tocoutdoors2015 Is the razor open comb or does it have a safety bar? The 1904 comes in 2 versions - he should be using the one with the safety bar. Definitely try some new blades, perhaps some Derby's due to their smoothness. But the number one variable is technique! Make sure he is using very very light pressure and he may want to try just shaving with the grain for a while
Yes its the one with the safety bar, ill have him order some derbys and other blades you have reviewed. All good advice though, very much appreciated! I tried using his razor & didn't get any bumps so I think I'm going to make the switch as well. Happy Holidays
you are the best shaver TH-camr on the planet, I would like to give me a specific answer in terms of sharpness, smoothness, and quality of Rapira platinum lux and Astra superior platinum and which one you prefer as daily to go one?!!! i appreciate your help and support. best regards Tarek Halwani
Hey Nick! I just started wet shaving and your videos helped me a lot! As I am from Austria I can not support you by buying on Amazon with your provided links (I would have to buy on Amazon.de). Do you have a paypal account to donate to or an address where we can send you samples of stuff we use?
+nick shaves That's a very honorable attitude! If you ever have a post box address I can send you some great Austrian shaving products to, please let me know. Thank you for your videos!
+mresurm Thank you for your feedback :) I was using the super stainless (I still have a few left) but every time I went back to them, I just got a bad shave, it's a shame because I always heard good reviews about them :( But it's ok, my SP's and lab blues always work great. I was surprised when Nick said he thought the 7 o'clock greens were so similar to the lab blues :)
+mresurm the Personnas and Astras for me make it easy, but as I couldn't get the used to the 7 o'clocks and you love them, that probably counts for very little :D. I haven't tried gsb's, but I suppose the important thing is we both have our favourites that work well for us, and make this style of shaving such a pleasure :)
Dave C Yup, blades are different for everybody. I find that regular "stainless" blades seem to work for me better than those that are coated with this and that.
Am I the only one who found this blade awful? I may have just had a bad sample but I got a dull blade which left me irritated. They weren't a patch on the Voskhods or the Sharks.
Different strokes for different folks, these worked great for me , on a par with my go to Astra greens.Where as the Voskhods irritated the hell out of me. Its all part of the fun, we're all unique looking for the best blade for you.

namaste
As a new shaver I am happy to see my opinions validated here. I recently tried these blades and was really happy with the results.
+Brian Jacobson Excellent! These truly are great blades - glad you had the same experience with them
*Nice to see that adding an upward angle worked out for you Nick.*

Just used these blades. Yep, checks out. Had the same amazing shave as You. Even could go against the grain for the first time in a while.

I have a few of the 7oclock PermaSharps I still have to try
Just did head and neck shave with these and they work great.Thanks.
Every gillette blade I've tried so far has given me great shaves, you should review Gillette Platinum blades
First blade I ever ordered.
Got a 50 pack for $12
Used about 10 blades since January.
Ordered a 100 pk just last night for $22
Our Canadian dollar seems to affect the price.
Great review Nick. I think I have a sample pack of these and I've decided to give them a try. I also purchased a Chubby 2 based on your review and it's one of my favorite brushes. Nice review👍, compared to the perma sharp stainless this 7'o clock super stainless seems a whole lot better, wondering how would the 7'o super stainless compare with perma sharp super as both as in similar price range
you look like an 80's bodybuilder with that mustache
I know, right? God, I was, like, "Dude, shave that stupid mustache!"
He definitely looks like an 80s something. I was personally thinking pornstar. I can already see him at the disco.
well done review. What is your take on Astara blades? to me the 7o'clock is a bit sharper and harsh compared with the Astaras
Hey Nick. Did you get round to reviewing the Silver Blue's? You seem to have done the rest of the 7 o clock series.Thanks.
Nick definitely do the yellows next. I think they're the best. I'd be happy to mail you some.
+EvanBNW I have some and will be shaving with them tomorrow and filming
I have the same brush and it is amazing. Unfortunately also amazing how many hairs it loses every shave.
I ordered some of these blades after watching . Thanks. Nice job. Always good information
I love the blade reviews. Would love to here your take on Lord's Platinum
+Jared Williams You've got it! I am going to finish up the Gillettes, then Dorco, Ladas, Lords, and Perma-Sharps
Great review. May have to try those blades! Have you ever tried the personna Israeli Reds?
+hamitup01 I haven't! But I have in my shave den currently, waiting to be reviewed
Nick When I visit India I use these blades and they are much cheaper there too like $5 for 100 blades and I always bring around 500 blades haha.
+Abhishek Sharma Thats a great deal! I would load up on them
Hey Nick. Will you do a review of the Gillette Nacet blades or did I just overlook it?
And yes, I know I'm a few years late ...
+Owen Parratt Awesome! Glad to hear these work well for you too. A near perfect pairing in the 34c
Hey Nick, thanks for the review!
How many shaves do you think you can get out of one blade?
Cheers!
+Art King I usually get around 4 shaves per blade. I don't know specifically how this blade will last in time, but thats pretty standard for me
From what I saw in this video, I'm really impressed with these too.
I just had a sample pack with the Silver Blue and these. I feel these perform very similar to the Blue.
+Abraham Villela I think that thayers witch hazel is good for my skin overall, perhaps not the best post shave - a little alcohol in my aftershave works well for me. But the witch hazel is some great stuff. I tend to go for 100 packs - better deal, you can usually find free shipping
Thanks, as always informative review. I have a 5 box of these in the qua to try
+Dillon Jacobs Oh man! Bummer. Its so interesting how differently blades perform for different people. I love these. What blades work best for you?
hi was wondering if you have ever tried the supermax super stainless as I love them and i find them similar and much cheaper than gilette 7o'clock.
Do you throw the blades away after each shave? Or you can reuse them?
Thanks for the review. I knew that Russian 7 0'clock are fantastic. Waiting for your review of a yellow sharp edge blade. Also very interesting to know your opinion about 7 o'clock permasharp Indian comparing to a Russian green super stainless .
Do you use the fragrance oil based soaps or the essential oil based soaps from Stirling? Anyone got guidance on the differences & Pros & Cons between the two styles? Thanks.
Here in Pakistan you can get 5 Packs for $1. That turns out to $0.04 per shave
You sir, are worthy of that mustache! xD Nice review Nick, great to see the series moving along again.
+Xelerium Thanks! I like the mustache, it is gone now - posting another blade review soon where I take it down
May I ask if the stache will be taken down by the 34C itself? I always wanted to see you use a standard safety bar razor to tackle "heavy" beard growth.
can you make a video on vintage Gillette Blue Blades
Just ordered a couple hundred of these blades on your enthusiastic recommendation. Looking forward to getting them.
Love the '70s porno stache, man. :)
John A Gasbarre Did you end up loving these blades?
These are the best blades I've ever used. Gillette 7 O'clock.
Hi Nick,
I am curious why you did not soak your brush prior to loading it up.
+Stephen McElligott He did.
OFFICER NICK!
Review the rainbow blades
are theese blades better than perma sharp super?(in your opinion, seem that we have similar preferences)
These are my favorite blades. I have a lifetime supply.
Excellent indeed. I have a lifetime supply as well.
Gonna try these! By the way Nick, can you review the RazoRock Mentor ? Thanks! :D
+Mathieu Dionne-Lévesque I have the razor, I will review it soon!
Nick, I just tried this blade for the first time in my 34C and got a great shave. Add that to the stock. Thx
How do these compare to the Astra Greens?
Nick, don't you go ever ATG?
So soothing hear this man talk😆😂😁
Tremendous blade, highly recommended...
thank you Nick
Best blades when considering sharpness, smoothness, price.. no doubt..
Would you use these in a slant?
These were fine in the 34C, but I used one in a slant and got a few cuts.
He said that they would not be recommended in an aggressive razor (like a slant) and they should be used in more mild razors
Dude at... 17:20 you look like you left this reality! GREAT SHAVE!
+Solid Hesco The burn is real!
It only burns if your pure of heart... LOL...
you are the best shaver TH-camr on the planet, I would like to give me a specific answer in terms of sharpness, smoothness, and quality of Rapira platinum lux and Astra superior platinum and which one you prefer as daily to go one?!!! i appreciate your help and support.
best regards
Tarek Halwani
👍🏻👍🏻 good Review
Where did u buy these blades?
Hey Nick!
I just started wet shaving and your videos helped me a lot! As I am from Austria I can not support you by buying on Amazon with your provided links (I would have to buy on Amazon.de).
Do you have a paypal account to donate to or an address where we can send you samples of stuff we use?
+Stoeff1987 Thanks for wanting to support me! Watching my videos is more than enough.
+nick shaves
That's a very honorable attitude! If you ever have a post box address I can send you some great Austrian shaving products to, please let me know.
Thank you for your videos!
These blades are great. I sure that brush is great it better be for a $180 price tag
what about nacet ???
Do you still use your Vie-Long horse hair brush?
+ElementalHeroJoe I don't. That thing is too scratchy for me! Its just too uncomfortable
Awesome
Just cos u gone alcohol free doesn t make u soft pain for pleasure that logic is ridiculous
Rod bobby 😁😁
This was awesome to hear after buying a 100 pack! $10.00 from Italian barber.
Nadia Apmop Me too. I also picked up 100 Nacet for $9. What a deal.
@@shawngregory1429 How did you like the Nacets?
are you doing 7Oclock yellow?
+Fernando Abreu They are up next
Nice! Persona israeli Reds would be a good review too
Where did you get these for $14.50 per 100?
he probably used amazon or ebay. I got a 100 pack of lab blues for 6 bucks on ebay. it was a nice deal
Ha ha ! It sounds like it's just me, these are the one blade type I always got a bad shave from ;)
+Dave C Were you using the permasharp or the super stainless? The super stainless are much better than the permasharps.
Dave C
I find they are similar to the GSBs performance wise to me and both are favorite blades. I haven't really tried lab blues yet.
Dave C
Yup, blades are different for everybody. I find that regular "stainless" blades seem to work for me better than those that are coated with this and that.
WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THESE FOR 14 BUCKS FOR 100 PACK!?!?!?!
Probably Amazon
how do these compare to astra greens?
+Asad the great Smoother. About as sharp too
astra green feel like shaving with fusion 5 blades :)
gabez8
actually i have tried both. the green gillette are smoother and more forgiving. so keep pointless answer to yourself
Its all part of the fun, we're all unique looking for the best blade for you.
why don't you go against the grain?
+MasterofPlay7 My skin is so sensitive - against the grain always causes me some irritation, so I just avoid it
nick shaves how about the straight razor? Does that give you irritation? And how does the edge on your straight compares to the edge on the DE razor?
Use alcohol free after shave does not make u weak. pain for pleasure that logic is ridiculous 😆
lol you are not going to shave your mustache?
+MasterofPlay7 I kept it for a few days, but its gone now - I take it off in my new video
nick shaves why did you shave it? did your gf complain about it? lol
MasterofPlay7 thank god you removed it. it's disgusting.
I'm a women stating all this 😆 I'm using my husband's phone 😆
