    Based on this review, ordered 100, tried them and bought another 100. A real sleeper of a blade that doesn't receive the praise it deserves. Now my favorite blade. Thanks Nick.

    Nick, I visited maggards over the weekend. The owner is awesone, i can't say enough good things about him and his wife. While there purchasing everything I could get my hands on I picked up some perma sharp razors. They're ok, I wasn't too excited by their performance. I also purchased Pol Silvers, give those a try. A very good balance between sharp and smooth, just finished the best zero irritation shave I've had in some time. Try em, you'll be glad you did.

    Hello from Antalya Turkey. I have used Perma Sharp in my DE89 for a few shaves now and they do a great job. I have noticed over here they are just called Perma Sharp and the blades are clear, no printing.

    Every time Stirling Soap comes up in my rotation, I am reminded once again what an AMAZING and underrated soap company it is. The lather is creamy as hell and the post shave is fabulous.

    Great videos, thanks. Had never tried Permasharps ordered 200 on your recommendation alone ;)
    Gillette will never sell DE blades in the North America while they can sell silly cartridges for $20-$30. Every time I find a new blade I like I buy 100-200 of them. with 3-5 shaves a blade, shaving 3-4 times a week, growing a beard during winter. I have enough blades to probably last me two or more life times. With them being so inexpensive I also enjoy sharing them with friends who are interested in starting out in wet shaving.
    It's funny started out to get better more comfortable shaves and maybe save some money. I now basically have a shave shop in my bathroom cabinet. With soaps, creams, aftershaves, safety razors, straight razors, strops, hones, brushes and blades. Its a great hobby. I know want to build a new house with my own bathroom

    Nick, I use a Merker Futur on setting 1, 2 & 3 on my three passes. As some recommend, I tried reversing this to setting 3, 2 & 1 on the three passes on my fav blade (Gillette Silver Blue). The clear advantage is you’re using a milder setting on the third pass when your skin is beginning to get tired. Using the Silver Blue, the first pass on setting 3 was too sore. However when I tried this approach using Perma Sharps, the first pass went fine. I think this is an interesting test to rate a blade. Likewise Lab Blues weren’t as good on the first pass using setting 3. I think this test proves you’re absolutely right; Perma Sharp is the best blade. 👍

    I tend to have problems getting super close around my chin too. So I keep a 4-5 blade cartridge razor around for buffing that area.

    I just bought 400 of these, and 100 GSB's. The Permasharps are fantastic; very sharp, very smooth. In my ATT S1, it feels like they're just wiping away hairs and it's always a BBS!

    • @BuffaloNickel9
      @BuffaloNickel9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@byrnedes because he's a straight-up goon. You're right. no blade should ever be used more than twice if that. God I can't imagine how awful 6 shaves of a blade would be much less 15. Microscopic burrs will form after just one shave of a man's copper wire toughness beard.
      The edge of a double-edged blade is so thin, the toughness of them is nothing when cutting through coarse beard hair... you ever notice how Barber's will hone and strop their straight razors before every shave?
      These chips and burrs can easily be seen under microscope after just one shave which means the second use of any double edge razor blade will pull and tug more. even if you don't feel it, it can lead to more irritation well as being unsanitary if not properly sanitized with alcohol which rarely anyone does. These guys crack me up using blades for 5-10-15 shaves when they're not even saving enough pennies to buy an appetizer at dinner at the end of the year but instead are getting rougher shaves.
      The mere fact that any human could be that frugal at the cost of their own face & sanitation baffles my mind. Do not let these fools convince you to reuse blades. Enjoy your proper smooth clean sanitary shave every time!
      They aren't hurting anyone but themselves (& their own faces)

    Wondering what you think of Gillette Platinum. AOS sells 5 for $6, and while I think they are overpriced, I'm impressed by the smoothness, longevity, and decent sharpness. I have 100 pack of Permasharp's and they are sharp but not as forgiving or long lasting. Thoughts?

    Just picked up a five pack of these and tried them this morning. GREAT blade I must say. It fits me perfectly. Can't use Feathers, they tear my face of, but somehow these work great even if they are really sharp. We have three favourite blades in common; Perma-Sharp, Voskhod and Personna. Derbys also have worked for me but I don't think I will buy more of them.

    This blade works very well in my 34C as long as you don't subject it to more than a couple of days worth of growth and a heavy beard. It seems to lose it's edge quickly when subjected to extreme conditions. Its performance seems to be best with extreme
    and heavy growth when a slant type of razor is used, such as the Merkur 39C. With this razor the edge doesn't seem to fade. It produces consistent results. A plus with this blade and with the Astra Platinum is that the sides are numbered so that you can keep track of the number of shaves that you've exposed them to.

  • @knightmare1015

    Great shave Nick. i've been using these blades for the past 15 months and the only thing that can out perform them is the japanese natural waterstone edges on a straight razor. These blades are EPIC in a 37C slant which is a 2 pass ice rink type of shave.

I have sensitive skin, maybe not as much as you do, maybe a little less so, but I started with Derby blades and I just can't get as close as I would like to. I am thinking about getting either Personna lab blue or Astra SP DE blades. unless you have any other suggestions for me that might be better? I need sharpness but also really good smoothness. I also prep my face really well before every shave. any suggestions? or should I go with what I'm thinking and see how it goes?

      @bend.e.s.5438 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Danny Cetino not wanting to steal nicks thunder here but a rule of thumb is alcohol dries the skin whereas balm moisturises it. therefore it's down to your skin type. if you have oily skin use lotion (alcohol) but if you have dry skin use balm. if you use balm on oily skin it will make your skin greasy, if you use lotion on dry skin it will really dry your skin out. this is just what's best for your skin but it's all down to personal preference in the end. hope this helps.

      The escali badger brush is very prickly. It's a cheap badger brush, and that's how they feel most of the time unless you spend a lot of money. May I suggest a synthetic brush. Try the stirling 24 mm from stirlingsoaps.com or the plissoft from Italianbarber.com. They're both excellent brushes, and very affordable. Good luck!

    I find with my Omega pro boars I soak them fully then let them dry for 12-24 hours and by the next shave the backbone is perfect. Strong whilst not being hard to splay.
    I can't believe how soft my 10049 has become. It's actually as soft as my AceShaving silvertip.

    Perma-Sharp blades belong in the safety-razor blade collection..Duly noted :) . How many shaves do you think one blade would last for someone with a medium-grained beard, Nick?

    Hello,
    Sorry in the first place because this is not directly related to your video. However, I would like to ask some questions and suggestions. I use straight razor, the ones you fold the blade into it, I'm still a newbie at it and I managed not to cut myself more than once. I used several cartridge razors like Gillette Fusion with 4-5 blades and others with different numbers of blades, and few electric shavers. The problem is that the burn after shaving. Even though when I started to use straight razor, the burn was reduced, but it is still there, so I use
    after shave products for the razor burn. Is it the safety razor that you use prevents the razor burn, or you just ignore the burn? I cannot prevent myself not to use anything after shaving to reduce that burn.
    I use straight razor with Derby blade and that Perma-sharp blade, I don't use the blades more than twice, mostly once, l mostly shave after shower and my facial hair is kinda soft. I have no idea what I do wrong. Would you suggest anything for the burn, and I never used the safety razor you use.

      +Bubnova Head to reddit subreddit wicked_edge. You'll get a lot of answers to your questions. As for burn, that is mostly shave technique.

      +Stephen Brall i would say give a synthtic brush a try razorock over at Italianbarber has some great once on sell. monster 26mm one is 10.99 and a 22mm one is 8.99. also a boar brush is really nice and cheap omega boar brushes are around 10 dollars.

    I was wondering about in the future on other blade reviews if it would be possible for you to put an annotation to the end where your end review starts that way for someone who just wants to see your summed up review can see it without watching the whole thing (not that I don't like to but sometimes it's easier to just watch the review bits), if co great if not oh well ill still watch ya.

      +Deadbuck73 lol I understand. I did that with the Astra SPs and gave like 5 packs away or traded around. I still have several Pack's left. I'll do the same with the perma unless they're smoother

      +Deadbuck73 ok brother. Verdict in. These blades are like Astra SPs only way smoother. 2 passes and a cleanup and I was bbs. I think I've found a favorite blade. You can try them from tryablade dot com. I'm going to complete my top line ups before pulling the trigger on 100.

    Nick, do you think if Gillette brought their safety razor blades back to the US they would up the price? I'm thinking the reason they don't want to bring them back is because they want us all to buy their super expensive ProGlide razors and if they brought back the DE blades less people would buy the cartridges.
