    I can remember the last labour government when we had lower mortgage rates, you could get a dentist easily, uni fees were a fraction of what they are now, lower nhs waiting times, you could see a doctor the same or next day, better roads, more job opportunities, cheaper cost of living, cheaper energy etc etc.
    Not saying everything Labour did was great but compared to the last 14 years it was chalk and cheese.

    • @alberttatlock1541
      @alberttatlock1541 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Your memory is playing tricks on you, We didnt have lower mortgage rates. For 12 of the 13 Labour years, mortgage rates were roughly what they are now or higher. We had ultra LOW mortgage rates for 13 of the 14 Tory years. We had lowr NHS waiting lists because you couldnt get on a list. You think its hard to get a dentist now, its about to get worse as we see huge numbers of boat arrivals who were waiting for a Labour government, they are going to be given priority for housing, and dentists. Cost of living was lower, but so were wages, it was just as hard to pay for things as it is now. Energy prices were not that much less, (petrol was about £1.30 in 2006, now about £1.42. Gas was about 4.5p a unit, now about 5.5p.) and the increase we have now is because of Ukraine war, it would have happened whoever was in government, But be prepared for big price increases now that Labour has scrapped new oil/gas licences. However bad things were, they are about to get a whole lot worse.

      @@alberttatlock1541So everything is the fault of people in boats. They’re not going to get priority for housing and dentists. As for it was just as hard to pay for things is a load of garbage, people didn’t have to rely on food banks. The scrapping of oil and gas licences is a red herring as it takes up to 20 years for oil and gas fields to develop. Even then the price of oil and gas will be dictated by the world market. If you think things were as bad you’re living in cloud cuckoo land.

      Yep. I've only recently accepted that my disability ain't getting better any time soon, and I'm going to need to apply for PIP, and the Tory scheme just seemed so utterly unworkable to me. I used to be an OT, so I've a pretty good understanding of what a voucher scheme would need to look like, but also where it would absolutely fall down and end up costing the taxpayer more.
      I suspect it was a ruse for all the tories' mates to set up companies that would be the main equipment and services providers. Hopefully Labour see that, scrap it and do what SHOULD have being done, which is to employ a bunch of employment and disability specialists to help disabled people find and move into work without all the childish threats of sanctions.
      I WANT to work, but I can't get to that point on my tod because I fatigue too quickly and then have to spend three days in bed waiting for my heart to stop threatening to explode.

By the time I left the UK Cameron was in and I have steadily watched with dismay how a thriving country that I was sad to leave has devolved so catastrophically. We were back in May this year and were dismayed at the state of the physical landscape (the potholes, dear god the potholes!), the decimation of the high street, and of course the increased poverty. The solution lies in a single national project.
    That project is 300,000 council houses a year rent caps on private sector as a stop gap, and immigration focused on key workers only for a while, so trades , engineering, architecture, teaching , Training our current stock of both new people and long term poor and working poor.
    Everyone at all levels climbing the skill ladder to build house,s Instead of the housing ladder to exploit others.
    Another big pet peeve on migration " They are doing the jobs we don't want to do !"
    No we can not afford to do those jobs , or we have toiled most of our lives doing them. Against impossible rents and we live single or in couples , not 10 to a house.
    If you build more homes you lower rent , more people take normal low paid work , less jobs available, migration organically reduces with out any hard nationalism or forced expulsion

      It's worth at least acknowledging that they have put all their eggs in one basket ,( their own mortgage home etc) when these people get older they are going to told that they have to much money to qualify for state care and they will be expected to sell or partly liquidate their home to pay for a nurse or career. Also a sudden abundance of much cheaper housing will devalue their house from its loftly value to less than a third of the value. It's important to offer these people the appropriate guaranteed care and support possibly even options like being able to live out the rest of their lives in their own home but it is a council house after they death, in return they get round the clock care.
      If they give the home to a relative, then free child care can be offered to allow the house to be added to council stocks and that family remains in place unless they move by their own choice.

I know a guy who did that. He never had any conviction after that. You can't believe how much he loved he's work, he was very happy when there were overtime, he's employer loved him.
