Good manners and a pleasant demeanour will get you a long way in the UK, or anywhere for that matter. You have both in spades and are a credit to your parent's.
Literally everywhere I've been in the world have the basic manners you would expect of any normal person. In general manners tend to be well received all over.
Assuming you should have a principally American fast food condiment on hand to add "flavour" to British chips AFTER adding salt and malt vinegar... not so much a legend.

I'm from England and watch your channel, i have done for a while and the reason I like you Joel is because unlike a lot of ' US channels that do UK reaction videos, you don't patronise, if you don't like something you will say you don't like it so when you say you do like something we know you really do.

You are 100% right and I realized,, working with many female colleagues,in particular, that Monday morning was not the time to ask for flexibility or favours. I learned to take a "run up" assessing the mood of each individual Man or Woman until by Friday, especially in the afternoon, it's PARTY TIME and then I chose the moments to ask the Boss for extra leave, longer lunch period, or any one of innumerable benefits developed over my "Office years from 1971-1995 when I started the first of my 2 outdoor Businesses, the second one involving caring for our lovely dogs and as I have 5 waiting to run freely in the park right now,I will bid you a fond farewell:)
I'm a born and bred Londoner. I would always recommend to anyone coming to the UK to check out London, but then to get out and spend some real time exploring the rest of the country because there's so much more out there!
My heart goes out to you and your generation. When I was your age I didn't have a care in the world, but young people now have to face a really black time with no end in sight. SO I love that you are having a good time here and reminding us all of all the benefits we take for granted... we're all a bit down too! You are a very kid and thoughtful young man.
I've just turned 40 this year and have seen a lot of the world, but seeing my own country through a fresh set of eyes has certainly opened my eyes about what we have on our doorstep. I'm from rural West Yorkshire and it's easy to take for granted the beauty of the countryside when you see it every day. Keep up the great work, mate 👍🏼
Well, my father was a POW, whom my mother met whilst on the post round as he was a put to work as a farm labourer. My mother was whistling the Blue Danube waltz and he joined in just over a passing hedge. He, eventually, became a cabinet maker for Alstons, and she inherited my grandmother's shop. Sadly, he had developed TB in the late 40s, but kept on working with just one lung working properly. That led to a heart attack and he died when I was just seven. The whole of the factory floor had a whip round and achieved a whole month's wages for us and they all came to his funeral. Even the people on the bus to work came or set condolences and flowers. Just to say, he was - in a way - an immigrant, but he was a polyglot and the last two languages he learnt were Italian - from a fellow POW - and English and spoke very fluently with just the tiniest of an inflection.
We used to go to Mawgan Porth in Cornwall every year as kids and growing up. So many happy memories & a v special place. We'd always arrive at night and before driving down, every time mum would make dad halt driving, so she could watch the waves, breaking against the cliffs xx

@@alibobsmarland9572 ahh, I loved it down there. As a kid, we went looking for crabs in the rock pools with dad every day. Then into the caves and looking for traces of pirates. And looking out for pixies along the way. The campsite we stayed at, was lovely. First morning each year, us kids would do the usual-running round everywhere to make sure everything was the same as it always was in years previous, then on the hunt for Nelson-the 1-eyed cat 😂. When my sisters started having kids, they took them to the same campsite, so they could have their own memories there too. Then one married a narcissist, who offended the owners and they were barred from then on!

A lot of American 'Reaction content' TH-camrs have been justifably taking a hit just lately for not mentioning the original uploaders names and going over the same subjects pretending it's the 1st time they have heard of it but Joel is leading the way on how to do it right he always credits the uploaders name and has the perfect balance of reaction and original content. There's been a lot of strikes on the rails for the last year. It's a pain in the butt, although I do feel they need to stick up for their wages. They've now gone back to work. 😅
Yes Joel is real as a reactor can be. There is one reactor in particular who’s really bad at this, they have different accounts for each country with different names, pretending to be dumb as if they are reacting to something for the first time. Another reactor laughs at everything, even jokes they can’t get (someone from the other side of the U.K. don’t get them). Some bad actors in this game for sure.
The Isles of Scilly, the locals will lynch you for calling it the Scilly Islands ;) seriously it's brilliant (although a bit of trip to get there). Would also add the Channel Islands (although technically not the UK)
St Ives is a hellhole of overtourism now, I visited in August this year, have previously seen it in all seasons. We could barely move, grubby, smelly, repetitive tourist tat, couldn't wait to leave. There are other beautiful seaside towns/villages in Cornwall much more worth visiting.
Joel, next time you're over in 🇬🇧, you need to go to north Wales & visit the Snowdonia national park. That is breathtakingly beautiful as well. There is a little train that runs up Mount Snowdon.
We have some beautiful places in the South too...we generally get ignored...you'd love the West coas5 of Wales. Gower is my stomping ground. Look forward to your visit ti Wales 💜🌻🏴
Wales is beautiful I'm from north wales 15 mins from Llandudno it's a lovely seaside town as is conwy and snowdonia is also a must I've been to south wales years ago and it wad also lovely,hope you get to visit joel
You can say what you like, we do have the most beautiful country and it's being destroyed by the governments and the fact that our identity is being completely trampled on, one church vicar has said that in twenty years time it will be mainly Islamic that thought is terrifying. Get over to the pub for your cider while you can because if this present government have their way this country will be unrecognisable. Joel, one place you must try and visit is the Isle of Skye. You will never find another more beautiful isle in Britain. The terrain is like an Emerald bed of a majestic grassy hills and ancient rocks and cliffs. ❤️ from Northumberland 🇬🇧
If you haven’t read Bill Bryson’s books on Britain, you should. He must have been the first American to express his fondness for the UK and it’s quirks. No podcasting then so his writing made him a very honourable British citizen.

I'm glad that you mentioned Bill Bryson. 'Notes from a Small Island' was written about the UK in the 70's and shows a different country to the one Joel visited and we are now living in. In the first chapter writing about 'arriving for the first time in 70s UK and finding it shut (!) because it was a Sunday, and the story about the novel use of underpants is making me laugh just to thinking about it.
I remember having that as an audio tape (shows how long ago that was!) and we listened to it in the car on our way to our summer holiday. It’s so funny, tears were running down our faces. Love Bill Bryson.
@@vamboroolz1612 One review of the book was easy to Google. ‘When Bryson gets to Scotland he’s surprised that it feels like a different country from England and Wales. I’m always amazed when people say that, I find it weird that they would think that Scotland should be just like England, with worse weather. He had some trouble understanding people in a pub in Glasgow, which is fair enough as I had no idea what two men from Fife who I happened to overhear talking today were saying, and I’ve lived in Fife for donkey’s years.’ As for Wales he did the country justice in an account written for the Welsh Tourist Board. He did write more than one book on Britain. You’ve missed out if you’ve only read one and sound quite unhappy about it.
Thanks for the honesty. To be fair, I get P**sed off when I watch videos where folk visit the UK, go to London, and that's pretty much it. They come out and say that you don't need a car, public transport is fantastic, busses every two minutes, the tube gets you from a to b in an instant. Now you've visited and are being honest, phew..... thank goodness. Public transport out of the big cities is quite frankly atrocious. Great video mate, thanks for the uploads.

I'm an old guy. In 1972 I hitchhiked from Washington DC to Seattle. I had been a sailor before and I fell in love with the prairies. It was like driving across the sea. And I found nothing but friendliness from all the people I met.
I travelled across the States using your Greyhound buses and mostly used the old Route 66 roads. I agree with you completely and I learned to really like people in the small towns in the middle of nowhere. The cities were great too.
Joel you are a pleasure to listen to. You’ve such a straightforward and honest way about you that is so real and enjoyable. Cornwall is a magical place and I’m sure you’d love it. I live in Essex so no local promotion here! Thanks for reminding us again about the joys of our own country - I often remind people that others travel half way around the world to see what is on our doorstep. Great video! Coastline, Natural beauty, Cider, Pubs, Sandy Beaches, Sunday Roasts. You'll love Cornwall mate. Sennen Cove has an amazing beach or if you can get in - Kynance Cove is special. Trains - all the different lines are now run by overseas companies whose motives are profit above service. Flying is often quicker and cheaper for longer journeys - go figure.

With the greatest respect, I wouldn’t call the U.K. a little island with a population of 67 million but I would call it a small island. A little island is like Ascension Island which is a British overseas territory.
@@lg_believe333It's true that Britian isn't all that big in size but it's too densely populated. Nearby France has a slightly lower population but about 5 times as much land. And nearby Netherlands probably isn't that much smaller and has a population of around 17 million
I’m walking around the coast of Britain. It’s 4,500-5,000 miles in length so it takes about 18 months to walk around. There is an unbelievable amount to see in the UK and one lifetime is not enough! ❤

Glad you enjoyed your visit. I visited USA twice last year, I love doing roadtrips there. It's different to UK but we still are amazed by the beauty of your country.
Joel, you have to visit Brighton, Bournemouth, Dorset - Durdle Door and Lyme Regis. Devon and Cornwall. I think you will like Newquay in Cornwall, St Ives, Porthcurno. Some great pubs in Cornwall (the Pandora). Lots of very interesting National Trust properties. You might need to drive in the UK! Not everywhere is well served by rail - even when they are not on strike.

I agree. I grew up in a farming area on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon. I now live on the edge of the New Forest. Because I can't drive due to the way multiple sclerosis affects me, living in the New Forest I enjoy.

I have to be honest, you have seen more of Britain than myself lol. We are renovating a campervan to tour Britain and Europe so I am excited. Travel and adventures are so much fun.
Joel enjoyed your thoughts on visiting England. I lived in London, for a year back in the mid '50s. My parents were there on business, so we had a nanny taking care of us. She took us all around London on the Underground; romps through Hyde Park, and other parks about London. We got to the countryside on occasion. I still remember the beauty. I'm thinking the trains and Underground were a bit more reliable then. (More steam trains then). As an adult, I've been back to England four times. As an adult, I appreciated my stay in London (which was short), but traveled about England in a car on at least one or two visits. So much more to experience. I did like the various pubs visited along the way. If I was hungry, I'd view the deli case. If the food look fresh, and the place clean, I'd grab a bit. If not, perhaps a pint, and go elsewhere. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Took my wife to UK for 1st time this Summer and she agreed with all your thoughts. Countryside, trains, chippy, Yorkshire pudding, everything! Uncanny!

Sorry about the trains dude 2 names Beeching and Thatcher Beeching was responsible with the closures of main lines, tram serves and a lot of branch lines. Margaret Thatcher privatised the railway’s and it’s gone so downhill since. We do have this tendency in the Uk to mirror America. But it’s often the bad stuff we copy. On a trip to Bath recently we were in this quaint old pub and met two really lovely young men from Detroit. So friendly and interested in everything. They were going to Bristol for the night before going to Scotland. Don’t forget if you have time next trip Somerset Devon and of course Cornwall all beautiful places and stunning countryside. Come down to Devon, go to Woolacombe beach and Saunton Sands, where the US army trained for D Day, no better sandy beaches in the the UK on a sunny day,you'd be amazed. Go to Exmoor, Dartmoor,Bodmin. By all means forget about the Jocks and the Taffs, although Snowdonia is nice

Life was MUCH harder in the 70's and 80's.
I've just turned 40 this year and have seen a lot of the world, but seeing my own country through a fresh set of eyes has certainly opened my eyes about what we have on our doorstep. I'm from rural West Yorkshire and it's easy to take for granted the beauty of the countryside when you see it every day.

Well, my father was a POW, whom my mother met whilst on the post round as he was a put to work as a farm labourer. My mother was whistling the Blue Danube waltz and he joined in just over a passing hedge. He, eventually, became a cabinet maker for Alstons, and she inherited my grandmother's shop. Sadly, he had developed TB in the late 40s, but kept on working with just one lung working properly. That led to a heart attack and he died when I was just seven. The whole of the factory floor had a whip round and achieved a whole month's wages for us and they all came to his funeral. Even the people on the bus to work came or set condolences and flowers. Just to say, he was - in a way - an immigrant, but he was a polyglot and the last two languages he learnt were Italian - from a fellow POW - and English and spoke very fluently with just the tiniest of an inflection.
Nope he is an American. Who else over the age of 6 would make a fuss about not getting ketchup.

We used to go to Mawgan Porth in Cornwall every year as kids and growing up. So many happy memories & a v special place. We'd always arrive at night and before driving down, every time mum would make dad halt driving, so she could watch the waves, breaking against the cliffs xx

@@alibobsmarland9572 ahh, I loved it down there. As a kid, we went looking for crabs in the rock pools with dad every day. Then into the caves and looking for traces of pirates. And looking out for pixies along the way. The campsite we stayed at, was lovely. First morning each year, us kids would do the usual-running round everywhere to make sure everything was the same as it always was in years previous, then on the hunt for Nelson-the 1-eyed cat 😂. When my sisters started having kids, they took them to the same campsite, so they could have their own memories there too. Then one married a narcissist, who offended the owners and they were barred from then on!

I love your enthusiasm for our wonderful little Island. You mentioned the trains. Yes, they started privatising them back in 1994, and it has been a downward spiral ever since. Ketchup on chips! You got it all wrong, my friend. You need curry sauce, and if they don't sell it, it's not a good place. A good hint for eating in our country, if its busy and you have to queue....its a good place to eat.
I literally discovered your Channel yesterday but since then I have watched about 15 of your videos. You have such an easy style and manner that the videos become so engaging. A lot of American 'Reaction content' TH-camrs have been justifably taking a hit just lately for not mentioning the original uploaders names and going over the same subjects pretending it's the 1st time they have heard of it but Joel is leading the way on how to do it right he always credits the uploaders name and has the perfect balance of reaction and original content. There's been a lot of strikes on the rails for the last year. It's a pain in the butt, although I do feel they need to stick up for their wages. They've now gone back to work. 😅
Yes Joel is real as a reactor can be. There is one reactor in particular who’s really bad at this, they have different accounts for each country with different names, pretending to be dumb as if they are reacting to something for the first time. Another reactor laughs at everything, even jokes they can’t get (someone from the other side of the U.K. don’t get them). Some bad actors in this game for sure.

The Isles of Scilly, the locals will lynch you for calling it the Scilly Islands ;) seriously it's brilliant (although a bit of trip to get there). Would also add the Channel Islands (although technically not the UK)
I had my honeymoon in St. Ives in 1966 October 8th end of season. Re visited a few years ago. Over commercialised and overrun. Pity.
St Ives is a hellhole of overtourism now, I visited in August this year, have previously seen it in all seasons. We could barely move, grubby, smelly, repetitive tourist tat, couldn't wait to leave. There are other beautiful seaside towns/villages in Cornwall much more worth visiting.
You need to go to Dorset! White sands, turquoise waters. Beautiful!

Joel, next time you're over in 🇬🇧, you need to go to north Wales & visit the Snowdonia national park. That is breathtakingly beautiful as well. There is a little train that runs up Mount Snowdon.
We have some beautiful places in the South too...we generally get ignored...you'd love the West coas5 of Wales. Gower is my stomping ground. Look forward to your visit ti Wales 💜🌻🏴

Joel, one place you must try and visit is the Isle of Skye. You will never find another more beautiful isle in Britain. The terrain is like an Emerald bed of a majestic grassy hills and ancient rocks and cliffs.

If you haven’t read Bill Bryson’s books on Britain, you should. He must have been the first American to express his fondness for the UK and it’s quirks. No podcasting then so his writing made him a very honourable British citizen.
You've just reminded me that I read Bill Bryson's books some years ago after a recommendation from a friend. I must go back to them again. You're right a great read.
I'm glad that you mentioned Bill Bryson. 'Notes from a Small Island' was written about the UK in the 70's and shows a different country to the one Joel visited and we are now living in. In the first chapter writing about 'arriving for the first time in 70s UK and finding it shut (!) because it was a Sunday, and the story about the novel use of underpants is making me laugh just to thinking about it.
I remember having that as an audio tape (shows how long ago that was!) and we listened to it in the car on our way to our summer holiday. It’s so funny, tears were running down our faces. Love Bill Bryson.
The only thing is his book on Britain only concentrates on England, it totally skips over the rest of Britain. So not really a book on Britain is it?
@@vamboroolz1612 One review of the book was easy to Google. ‘When Bryson gets to Scotland he’s surprised that it feels like a different country from England and Wales. I’m always amazed when people say that, I find it weird that they would think that Scotland should be just like England, with worse weather. He had some trouble understanding people in a pub in Glasgow, which is fair enough as I had no idea what two men from Fife who I happened to overhear talking today were saying, and I’ve lived in Fife for donkey’s years.’ As for Wales he did the country justice in an account written for the Welsh Tourist Board. He did write more than one book on Britain. You’ve missed out if you’ve only read one and sound quite unhappy about it.
Thanks for the honesty. To be fair, I get P**sed off when I watch videos where folk visit the UK, go to London, and that's pretty much it. They come out and say that you don't need a car, public transport is fantastic, busses every two minutes, the tube gets you from a to b in an instant. Now you've visited and are being honest, phew..... thank goodness. Public transport out of the big cities is quite frankly atrocious. Great video mate, thanks for the uploads.

I'm an old guy. In 1972 I hitchhiked from Washington DC to Seattle. I had been a sailor before and I fell in love with the prairies. It was like driving across the sea. And I found nothing but friendliness from all the people I met.
I travelled across the States using your Greyhound buses and mostly used the old Route 66 roads. I agree with you completely and I learned to really like people in the small towns in the middle of nowhere. The cities were great too.
Joel you are a pleasure to listen to. You’ve such a straightforward and honest way about you that is so real and enjoyable. Cornwall is a magical place and I’m sure you’d love it. I live in Essex so no local promotion here! Thanks for reminding us again about the joys of our own country - I often remind people that others travel half way around the world to see what is on our doorstep. Great video! Coastline, Natural beauty, Cider, Pubs, Sandy Beaches, Sunday Roasts. You'll love Cornwall mate. Sennen Cove has an amazing beach or if you can get in - Kynance Cove is special. Trains - all the different lines are now run by overseas companies whose motives are profit above service. Flying is often quicker and cheaper for longer journeys - go figure.

With the greatest respect, I wouldn’t call the U.K. a little island with a population of 67 million but I would call it a small island. A little island is like Ascension Island which is a British overseas territory.

I’m walking around the coast of Britain. It’s 4,500-5,000 miles in length so it takes about 18 months to walk around. There is an unbelievable amount to see in the UK and one lifetime is not enough! ❤

Wales has stunning coastline in the UK, Abersoch is one of my favourite places and I saw dolphins there jumping out the sea.
Joel, you have to visit Brighton, Bournemouth, Dorset - Durdle Door and Lyme Regis. Devon and Cornwall. I think you will like Newquay in Cornwall, St Ives, Porthcurno. Some great pubs in Cornwall (the Pandora).
Lots of very interesting National Trust properties.
You might need to drive in the UK!

I agree. I grew up in a farming area on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon. I now live on the edge of the New Forest.
Because I can't drive due to the way multiple sclerosis affects me, living in the New Forest I enjoy.

Joel enjoyed your thoughts on visiting England. I lived in London, for a year back in the mid '50s. My parents were there on business, so we had a nanny taking care of us. She took us all around London on the Underground; romps through Hyde Park, and other parks about London. We got to the countryside on occasion. I still remember the beauty. I'm thinking the trains and Underground were a bit more reliable then. (More steam trains then).
As an adult, I've been back to England four times. As an adult, I appreciated my stay in London (which was short), but traveled about England in a car on at least one or two visits. So much more to experience. I did like the various pubs visited along the way. If I was hungry, I'd view the deli case. If the food look fresh, and the place clean, I'd grab a bit. If not, perhaps a pint, and go elsewhere.

Beeching was responsible with the closures of main lines, tram serves and a lot of branch lines.
Margaret Thatcher privatised the railway’s and it’s gone so downhill since.

On a trip to Bath recently we were in this quaint old pub and met two really lovely young men from Detroit. So friendly and interested in everything. They were going to Bristol for the night before going to Scotland. Don’t forget if you have time next trip Somerset Devon and of course Cornwall all beautiful places and stunning countryside. Come down to Devon, go to Woolacombe beach and Saunton Sands, where the US army trained for D Day, no better sandy beaches in the the UK on a sunny day,you'd be amazed. Go to Exmoor, Dartmoor,Bodmin. By all means forget about the Jocks and the Taffs, although Snowdonia is nice

@@MandyWood-s8b Most Americans I've met through social media seem friendlier than Brits in my own experience. But I still need to visit there but every Brit I know that has been has always said the people there were awesome 😎
