The ropes are durable and just like the ones at the gym. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTFxba6lNeHrZaHoY_LXe6ZzmMfaipnwu Caution: I bought the 50 feet ropes and they are long and heavy so make sure you have the space (I do have the space). If I was to do it again I would probably get a shorter version as 50 feet (25 feet each side) is a little long.
For goodness sake. SEALS are a generic special force , a cross between the UK SBS and the SAS, The SBS are the anphibious special forces of the Royal Marine Comandos. The SAS of course are the best special forces unit in the world. Royal Marine commando's are a tough specialist unit in itself, very hard to get into and complete training, which takes 32 weeks. US Marines are just foot soldiers who train for 13 weeks and are like UK Army squadies. Respect to all of them TBH but you cant compare the US Marine to a Royal Marine comando. The only thing they have in common is the "Marine" bit.
Marine Force Recon is a Special Operations Capable unit so you can't really compare a unit as such to the RMC's because they are practically special ops but don't come under any of the SOC's. It's like comparing the UK Para's to a random basic Army regiment.
US marines are a hard tough force that are a large conventional sized outfit. They do not train to the level of British Marines but they are not intended to be of that standard. USMC are trained to the level they need to be at for their size. USMC do not train for 13 weeks. That is just the basic part of their training. USMC are are unique in world military. They have their own air force.
Those showers behind them at the start. BEST SHOWERS EVER! Sooo hot. Coming back from the Endurance course and getting in those. Argghhh its just beautiful. :)
All the guys in blue/red shirts are recruits, at week 9 doing their "gym tests" to show they are competent to progress to the Bottom Field (where you do all this again, and much more, with weight.) The guys in red tops are potential "PT superior" grade, and wear the red shirts during the gym tests so that the PTI's can identify them easily to determine whether they are up to the required standard.
In reply to shrek. My lads just joined RN as an engineer. He's big and strong (6'4'') from six years of playing rugby since he was 13. He had to really up his running and stamina but his strength was ok. Just shows how relentless the running requirements are for recruits and on the job - he was shocked with that part!
im a United States Marine and i have to say that is some cool stuff on the rope. all we do is climb to the top and back down in our training. the extra stuff the did looked like acrobat stuff
Just to put this in perspective for our American brethren(?) what you are seeing is Royal Marine Junior recruits 16-19 years old in their 4th to 6th week IMF (Initial Military Fitness). The Guys in the red shirts although I am not sure as we never did it this way are "Potential Recruits" These are guys that come to the Commando Training Centre RM and are assesed for Training. If they Pass they will be asked back to join a New Training troop (in the Blue Shirts) Training lasts 30 weeks (BASIC) the last week of your thirty is only when you can be called a "COMMANDO" if you pass the tests 1.9mile speed march Boots Full combats helmet webbing and rifle Approx 34lbs (FFO) (90 mins) 2. Tarzen course immediately followed by the assault course (full kit) timed(13min) 3.Endurance course 4 mile march to start, then approx 2 mile obstacle course including Submerged tunnels underground tunnels chest high water obstacles, more tunnels then a 4 mile race back to the ranges where you are required to put down 10 rounds onto target (must hit six or fail) every miss adds time to your run. Timed 73 min 4. 30 miler Full kit over Dartmoor carrying a 50llb safety rucksack (BETWEEN GROUP) 8 hours 7 hours for officers
This is a week 8 final gym test, guys aged 16-32 and the ones in the red shirts have been identified by the training team as the fittest in the troop and ones to watch for PT superior awards.
PAUL White the guys in the red are the ones that score highest in the initial gym tests. They put them closest to friends and family when they come on week 4 to see them pfor the first time.
@EdofEngland they don't isolate the transverse or rectus abdominal groups. Wasting a lot of the effort on hip flexors which can be worked out much more effectively with hanging leg raises whilst working out the the lower abdominals as well. If I wanted to strength my core I would use full crunches preferably weighted,, with other exercises.
@Choice777 It's not down to inspiring confidence. They're there to make sure the recruits are doing their exercises correctly, and in turn to they'll assess the recruits on their fitness levels and general attitude. Effectively they're acting as the first layer of quality control to make sure they take on the right candidates, saving them wasting money on training people who will never make the grade.
@mow4cash DEP(optional) - 8 to 16 Weeks Boot Camp - 8 Weeks Dive Prep - 4-12 weeks PTRR -2-4 weeks Indoc - 3 weeks (Official "SEAL Training")- BUD/S - 6 months --Basic Conditioning (7 weeks) --Diving (8 weeks) --Land Warfare (9 weeks) Basic Parachute Training - 3 weeks SQT - 6 months Thats about two and a half years of training. How long do the Royal Marines train for? Also the Navy SEALS would have been one the beach getting wet and sandy, not in a dream.
There needs to be more troop numbers!!! All that happened last a couole of decades is defence cuts resulting in less troop numbers!! Especially now with unpredictable Russia!! Perhaps we will wake up a bit !!! 🏴🇬🇧
random question but how many pressups, situps, are you expected to do in the royal marines, and how many miles do you have to run for in a typical excercise?
@Freepepsi42 when you say untill your done does that mean untill you cant move any more or untill you have completed all the task? and does gym sessions happen everyday of training?
@Armylad2k10 or just do pullups and rope chins lol. biceps is the smallest muscle used whilst pulling up on the ropes. it is also mostly legs used on the ropes.
Im thinking about the RMR as im really am up for the challenge and i love anything to do with fitness I've done Muay Thai (thai kickboxing) for a few years now love it better than MMA by far the drills they do in it are very hard boot camp style. But im considering the RMR as a better option because it gives me a chance to travel and that determination to be part of something as a team :)
yeah , i found two wikipedia article on the prmc and the 32 week training looks incredibly complex, but good luck to you, main reason why i want to join was because all my dads side were in pakistan army and he is muslim - i am not and ran away from homw when i was 16 living in hostel but doing a degree now but if i got in the marines it would just the be the perfect culmination of success and evidence of my love for this free coutry
tahoevista the guys in red tshirts are PT superiors, as in theyve been picked out as theyre seen to be the stronger members of the troop physically. lousky619, the gymtest is not about how many pushups you can do, they are doing wot is called 'swedish PT' its all about discipline, whilst in the gym, ie no scratching or fidgetting. the only criteria on it is a minimum of 3 ropeclimbs as far as i can remember.
What is the thing called when they release their hands and use their right armpits and legs to maintain height on the rope...? I can do that but I don't know what to call it and I don't want to be laughed at by staff.
Yes they are, but the mindset and mental toughness required for Marines is at least needed for the SAS. The Commando's is a clear linkup with options under enough experience gained allowing you to actually apply for the SAS... Few other regiments and groups qualify you with such honour...
@Minitrolune Courage and facing the fears, only way to overcome a problem is confronting it. Tackle it head on and don't let it overcome what a human being can physically do. Remember the the royals marines way, courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness in the face of adversity.
This is all stuff u learn in the first week of basic with the royal marines, the proper test comes at the end of training with the commando course, Tarzan course and the 30 mile yomp
I can't climb a rope? No were local i can even do it, how am i meant to pass this? Will they instruct me on how to? What muscles are used and would be good to develop?
@djeq721 You'll mainly need good grip strength, your laterals (muscles on back that look like wings) and biceps. basically the same muscles you use for pull ups.
@inky326 I highly doubt that. If that was the case the tarzan assault course would be no more. Yeah it may not be safe but this is the Rm we're talking about. I saw a guy fall from 3/4 the way up in my troop 2 weeks before gym pass out. He burnt his hands bad but carried on with the troop for the pass out. Lucky guy though his back messed up on him around week 16 and that was probably the main cause. Only thing they may of stopped is mud runs because half a troop went down with D&V before.
Regarding the first time buyer scheme, I know people who have used it and are happy it is there. I also know someone who is planning not to use it, even though they are eligible. It certainly helps people get on the ladder, which is good. Is it fuelling a bubble is the question? While house prices only rise slowly, I don't think it is. However, even if it is, the housing market didn't really crash properly during the dire conditions of the credit crunch. Prices just dipped a bit.
@@rocky76dude7 Well considering everything you stated 9 years ago has failed to come to fruition, it's doing very well. The country's afloat, which you said it wouldn't be, as you predicted that they wouldn't be able to get ahead of the debt curve, but that was achieved in 2017 when debt stopped rising as a proportion of GDP; the housing market demand has been consistently ahead of supply which you said it wouldn't be; The country has maintained net immigration throughout, which you said wouldn't be the case. All your nonsense 9 years ago was off the back of the credit crunch. We have new challenges now and the same overall outcome will result. How is the rock you crawled and hid under for 9 years?
Hey buddy ! What did I say 9 years ago about a complete collapse? Debt was claimed to be reduced in 2017 , but now has surpassed anything corbyn could have dreamed of with his spending .The opposition supports the policies and Johnson had to rely on the opposition to get his mandates as an anti mandating libertarian through the parliament .Yes , going great with record illegal and illegal immigration with 17 billion a year in housing illegals . Yes , record inflation and inability for many to buy housing .
@@rocky76dude7 None of what you have just said is due to what you were saying 9 years ago. Like I say, new era, new challenges. You stated that everyone would be looking to leave the country ... seems the opposite is still true. Everyone has had the pandemic and everyone is paying increased fuel prices. Not much of that has anything to do you a UK cause. As for housing, since we last spoke, all three of my kids have graduated. The first two bought homes with no issues last year. Heck one of them bought while working part time at the university she's now doing a PHD at. Yeah, it's really hard to buy - LOL. Too many people making excuses. There's record employment and no reason not to be able to buy. Being sensible, you'd avoid this coming year until interest rates come down next year. As it is, the interest rates are below what they were when I bought in 1998. Too much doomsaying by too many losers.
I am sure I did not say everyone will leave the UK , as most belong only in UK .I am sure your children can buy a house on a part time job unless its a globalist Corp . Yeah right buddy .
Those people who keep arguing "america kicked your arses" "no britain kicked YOUR arses", "us marines are better" "no RMs are the best" why not you just join the respective corps and see for yourself. I bet most of you will stop gobbing by the time you pass out. Britain founded America, we fought each other many times, realised that was not the best option, made peace and became great together. We are still the best allies and we should be proud of this bond.
our marines are awesome, they don't need super tech or massive numbers and overwhelming firepower, they get the job done with true british grit, top lads.
@25Milimeter Im not trying to down the RMC but I am just throwing it out there that the Navy Seals training is a lot harder. They prepare them for some crazy things. I recommend you read the book "Lone Survivor," it talks about how hard a group of 4 SEALs fought against over 200 Taliban soldiers.
@25Milimeter Yes I understand thats just their basic; but the Navy SEALs have to got through 27 to 43 weeks of training before they actually start training to become a SEAL.
This isn't family's day, this is week 9 gym pass out, the guys in the red shirts are wearing them because they're classed as the stronger members of the troop
that is amazing mate, im not starting anything yet but it is definately a dream i am in ok shape because of weight training but my fitness levels arent great, as you said they expect around 7 mile run in the 32 week but im the type of person who would only join if i was at a 10-14 mile level lo. god my dream would be to reach a colonel level in the marines, all my family on my dads side were officers in the navy, army and air force my grandads were in WW2
The Guys in Red t shirts are called PT superiors, Blue tops are what everyone else wheres, basically there the fittest lads in the troop. This is Gym pass out week 7 or 8 of the 32 wk traning, Well at least that`s what they were when i was in this Gym getting thrashed up and down these ropes lol :)
Can someone tell me how to do that wrap around the rope they do to climb? If u can tell me just the name ill google the method because ive tried but cant get the hang of it.
Seriously? What is your problem? There are loads set around UK offices throughout the years. In addition to "The Office" there's The "Bridget Jones Diary" films, "Brazil", "The Thick of it", "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin" (the old version being a huge hit), "How to Get Ahead in Advertising" and "Rogue Trader". Others centring around non-UK offices include "Mad Men", the "Wall Street" films, "Trading Places", "The Proposal", "The Devil Wears Prada", "Disclosure". The list goes on and on.
These men are the most elite. I'm not saying there better then anyone else but they undertake the hardest and most brutal training in the world. It's a state of mind. 99.99 percent need not apply. I bet none of you could go through all of that. To be honest I bet you couldn't even do the bleep test. They are the most well trained soldiers to this day. Pamarim parteim. By sea and by land.
We had someone from the Foreign Legian join the Marines, he joined our squad through training, and he struggled with the basic training at Deal - and failed the Commando Training at CTCRM.
there's tons of mickey mouse regiments in the legion man, the 2nd REP is another story however, all i'm looking at here in this video his high speed shenanigans, what the fuck are they even using their legs for to climb rope if they aren't equipped
@sepiasilence I have mate, done PRMC, done bmf for the past year, e.t.c. I meant i love how attentive they are, not PTI's in general, because they run around like wasps!
Yeah, the UK did very badly in '96. It was widely publicised. That is when something got done about it. Sport in this country is very accessible now for the young and old alike, because there are many initiatives. It is one of the things that makes your criticisms of this country unfounded.
@JonnyA2006 just do plenty of upper body training, for ropes u want to be doing alot of bicep work, do excercises such as dumbell bicep curls and ul be fine
MrPhil92 I'm from the UK and your stupid. Whilst UK marines are better trained than any standard unit of the US military they are NOT better trained than SEAL,s. SEAL,s are on a par with the SBS. Marine Commando,s are not special forces and their training although tough does not meet special forces standards.
@Tommy123D until you have completed the task, well during testing you do all of them whether you were successful or not. I know in the past if you fail you get back tracked in training. And during your training you should be doing PT everyday whether it is orginized with the platoon or not, you are expected to keep yourself in shape.
we have alot of pride mainly cos we have the entire common wealth backing us up aka Canada, India, Newzealand and Australia. thats why we are full of pride cos when push comes to shove we have them on our side.
They climb with their legs, not their arms., by bringing the legs up, locking off with the feet, standing up,,,repeat...far easier than using your arms...stapes...
This works to create nationalism and patriotism on levels that the rest of the world laughs at. In Britain, we don't need to hear in schools, television, newspapers etc how great our country is... we only have to look across the pond to realise how fortunate we are.
You are all right in your own ways....unless you have actually gone through it then you can only have an opinion and perceptions.....the weakest can achieve incredible feats when called on and the strong can fall weak...self belief is powerful if achieved and maintained...
It is a massive achievement for some people to climb a rope, however they could be the one that pulls you out of a life death situation when you are not able...in our unit we were jig saw pieces...

I am sure I did not say everyone will leave the UK , as most belong only in UK .I am sure your children can buy a house on a part time job unless its a globalist Corp . Yeah right buddy .
Best months of my life I passed out ten years ago
Those people who keep arguing "america kicked your arses" "no britain kicked YOUR arses", "us marines are better" "no RMs are the best" why not you just join the respective corps and see for yourself. I bet most of you will stop gobbing by the time you pass out. Britain founded America, we fought each other many times, realised that was not the best option, made peace and became great together. We are still the best allies and we should be proud of this bond.
Wow, that was amazing!
You must have misread my comment, I was laughing at the Carlsberg reference. This is my country.
our marines are awesome, they don't need super tech or massive numbers and overwhelming firepower, they get the job done with true british grit, top lads.
Royal marines Circ du cele regiment?
@djeq721 you will be propally instructed... until your safe to do this, and you will start at low heights ... just work on overall core strength
@25Milimeter Im not trying to down the RMC but I am just throwing it out there that the Navy Seals training is a lot harder. They prepare them for some crazy things. I recommend you read the book "Lone Survivor," it talks about how hard a group of 4 SEALs fought against over 200 Taliban soldiers.
i love that shit they do halfway up the ropes
@25Milimeter Yes I understand thats just their basic; but the Navy SEALs have to got through 27 to 43 weeks of training before they actually start training to become a SEAL.
Top soldiers along with the SAS too. In fairness both are similar here and there.
Is the Para training done in the same was this?
@Tommy123D until your done. They are doing their fitness testing during their Basic.
@wiganerrmc Yes.....I know that but there usually the super moto guys out there that have those type of back and fourth conversations.
+Charlie Mcbarnet ok they are well trained but you simply cannot say that they are the best in the world. have you forgot about the foreign legion?
We had someone from the Foreign Legian join the Marines, he joined our squad through training, and he struggled with the basic training at Deal - and failed the Commando Training at CTCRM.
i'm in the 2nd REP and was in the US navy...the legion is far from the best in the world...however the REP is pretty solid tho
there's tons of mickey mouse regiments in the legion man, the 2nd REP is another story however, all i'm looking at here in this video his high speed shenanigans, what the fuck are they even using their legs for to climb rope if they aren't equipped
The Paras might disagree with you Charlie .....
@sepiasilence I have mate, done PRMC, done bmf for the past year, e.t.c. I meant i love how attentive they are, not PTI's in general, because they run around like wasps!
By what point in training does an RM recruit have to be able to do this kinda stuff?
I want to subscribe for climbing 24m 20s.
I want to know do not have any competition? Thank you
@MrDistrugator They can join the royal marines, but only through band service :). Playing the cello isn't quite as hardcore as assaulting a beach.
You would be fit... but the royal marines are on another level.
its basically extra training.
is this a fitness test or just for pt?
Yeah, the UK did very badly in '96. It was widely publicised. That is when something got done about it. Sport in this country is very accessible now for the young and old alike, because there are many initiatives. It is one of the things that makes your criticisms of this country unfounded.
Miss you buddy .Come back as things really are going well for your diet labour party .Love you !
Miss you buddy .Worried that you may not be alive anymore ,so please come back !!
could you tell me how somebody fails gym pass out at week 9 mate, isit not being able 2 do the situps and shit?
@vxphsycoxv cheers, im applying as an officer next year and my fitness teacher who used to be pti in the marines is gonna coach me through it.
@JonnyA2006 just do plenty of upper body training, for ropes u want to be doing alot of bicep work, do excercises such as dumbell bicep curls and ul be fine
@CampitelliBoxing- Bullshit. The Royal Marines are the best in the world and selection is much harder than the seals.
Don't argue who's better or who's worse just be happy that USA and the UK have the best troops
@nospeacial What's wrong with situps?
''Royal'' just means they fight for the Queen, as in the Royal family, its not a status determined by their ability or anything like that.
Great Point, but it is *earned not earn't. Rebuild The Empire. Long Live The Queen and The Commonwealth!
Cool stuff! Like to see more.
lol "Radio Times Website" - thats a good one mate!!
@inky326 Lol they have not stopped the rope climbs.
we have alot of pride mainly cos we have the entire common wealth backing us up aka Canada, India, Newzealand and Australia. thats why we are full of pride cos when push comes to shove we have them on our side.
@GHOSTFORTYONE I hate PTIs, guessing youve never been at the recieving end of one?
Wow they made the rope climbing thing look soooo flipping easy ;(
They climb with their legs, not their arms., by bringing the legs up, locking off with the feet, standing up,,,repeat...far easier than using your arms...stapes...
I wonder how many of those lads in the red T-shirts, went on to be PT Superiors? Anyways much respect from a Matelot!
It's less the rock, more the people.
nice!
they could join either but they would be more suited to their respective special forces branch because they have already trained in them/ with them
Fucking hell that rope climbing looks scary! can anyone tell me how many months into your training do u do that?
any unit in the military can apply for SAS in SBS most who apply are marines and only 3-6% pass
thanks so much for your reply, how many pull ups exactly?
3-16
This works to create nationalism and patriotism on levels that the rest of the world laughs at. In Britain, we don't need to hear in schools, television, newspapers etc how great our country is... we only have to look across the pond to realise how fortunate we are.
i love the PTI's, run around like wasps!
It's a state of mind
its on the 32week comando course week 2 you learn to climb ropes efficiently
Yes, what's your issue?
Do they just tell you to get up the ropes and then go from there, because i can't understand what they're saying :/
arrr IMF sessions are the shit!! love doing the ropes me!!
